That will be nice to get away from the crowds, traffic, and the 9 months of rain, good call
Look forward to seeing what your planning for a new shop. |

Our thoughts EXACTLY Dale.... There is a 55 MPH section of Hiway 75 but that's down near Hailey..... We'd only go there if we need to go to the airport. LOL Otherwise - it's 25 MPH and 35 MPH once you're "out of town" --- town is about 15 square blocks. A guy can easily get lost! |

So do you have a man cave with the shop area? Wine cellar? etc... |
That brake line bugs me, manufacturing negligence liability?
Based on my eye in the sky your cul-de-sac is approx. 95' dia. What's the turning radius of that hog? |

At least we know what to get you for Christmas a BIG FN ROOF SNOW RAKE !

Yes we do....and that's what brings up the square footage. A little here - a little there. We actually started much smaller - there's just the two of us... BUT --- always that danged big butt! WE realized after talking to our friends that THEY intended to come over and stay... and not just for the weekend! They were dead serious about being here a week or two. So we set up two of the bedrooms with a shared common area with kind of a kitchenette/living room set up. Sofa - chairs - dinning table etc. Thinking that someone may want to just get away -- go have a beer - or wine or whatever and just relax and watch some tv etc.... or in the morning -- be able to get up and make coffee etc and lounge around. WE also like our own space... and need to plan on grandkids etc. People come over to ski -- play golf - ride bikes etc... so we're planning for all of that. So all of a sudden you get project creep... Quote:
I already told the dealership... but that's what happens when you buy used. Oh well. I'll just get it all working "the Weld way"... and it'll be fine. The thing I'm learning is that these trailers are kinda not really truck trailers -- and not really RV's either. The real truck guys don't want to have anything to do with them... the brakes are "air"... and they don't do electric hydraulic brakes... that's "RV" stuff. The RV guys are few and far between... and generally want to service what they sold/sell. RE: Da Cul da sackie I was told the cul d sac was 110' radius.... I was told my truck had a turning radius of 55' feet. Both numbers are complete crap. I think the 110' "radius" was really DIAMETER.... because I could "almost" make the circle... so I'm close. Quote:
We are on about floor plan #5 or 6 now -- getting close. We're suppose to have some sketches of elevations while we're here this time. The main level floor is at about 6172' of elevation -- so yeah -- big time snow loads. |
Quote:
The driveway will be heated... does that count?? |
I took my conservative measurement off Google maps sat photo, so 110' works.
Maybe you can lobby for rolled curbing and over-width sidewalks? Shoot me a floor plan if you can, I'd like to see how it flows. |
Greg whats the weather like there in the summer? Might be a good idea to start planting some shade trees. Also, if it gets Nor Cal hot be sure to use roof sheathing with radiant barrier. IIRC radiant barrier sheathing will cool attic temps 15*. I went with two 4 1/2 ton 95% efficient furnaces with 17 seer ac units. Tankless water heaters will save on the energy bills as well. I installed two and put them in the attic. One serves the east side of the house and the other the west side. I went with Lennox gas fireplaces that are remote activated. Set the temp on the remote and when the temp drops to the set temp on the remote it will light on its own. Mansfield makes some nice and big jet tubs.
Brings back memmories.....lots of work finding the deals but well worth the end result!! |
Guest house? Separate garage/shop for visiting drive thru's? Wait that means I have to have a running car to participate, hell you'll probably be planning another move by the time I'm finished. Sounds like a pretty cool place Greg, looking forward to following the build. What style of home are you looking at building on top of the shop, contemporary/modern/colonial???
You know I want one! |
Quote:
The style is called Sun Valley lodge.... Not sure exactly what that means - but it's a legitimate description over here. Get that POS running and get over here. |
Man Greg I love the new area!!! Nice idea on putting the shop under the house, when my dad built his back in the late 70's he did the same thing, not size but half the lower house was all shop.
What a beautiful view. We are going to build our next house, my wife's grandparents have 3 acres two blocks from us. The house is over 200 years old up on a hill, that's where we plan to build and stay. Oh and her parents have their house right next door :lostmarbles: but their nice so it's good. Oh we will need a build thread on the new house!!! :warning: |
Quote:
Thanks Rick! I can't seem to capture the view with my limited camera skills... and some of the pics are from my iPhone... Photobucket seems to mangle the iPhone "panorama" shots... The view is 180* out the front of the house if you just stare straight ahead.... then there's a whole different view to the Southwest. And another west looking at Proctor Mountain. We're almost at the top of a ridge... and the view will change with the elevation of the house as it goes up from ground level. RE: In laws We have purposely built some areas of the house HOPING that my MIL will be able to come and stay for awhile. Some of us actually love our in laws. I've known my MIL since I was 15 years old.... imagine that... since I'm 60 next month. |
I'm real easy, just get me a sleeping bag and I'll sleep out in the shop. Im sure the shop area will be nicer than some homes.

I've had GIRLS make the same offer.... They're no good -- but they're easy. |
Any thought to putting a receiver hitch on the front of the truck to push the trailer in the garage? My Grandpa use to do this to launch a boat with his truck camper. It makes for great visability and a very manuverable setup. Just an idea.

I can't wait for this to get underway, its going to be very interesting.

I know where you're coming from - and you're right -- that might be a simple solution --- IF ---- BIG IF --- this wasn't a big azz gooseneck trailer... The overhang would have to clear the hood of the truck -- by the time you worked all that out -- and had a hitch big enough to make that all work -- I could buy a forklift... |

That BBQ looks pretty good. Just remember when you are using that thing keep your hands a safe distance. Don't take a chance of accidently welding your knuckles. I heard somewhere welding your knuckles is a really :badidea:  |
A welded shaft is even worse!!!

111 pages on a truck build/purchase, can't wait to read about the house!
Like I said before, you're wasting no time living! The truck, the property even the food looks great. Gotta love LATERAL-Greg! Dan |

There won't be a house build thread I can assure you of that.... just maybe the occasional pic thrown in here or there when "the moment is right" <think Cialis> The beauty of having been retired for almost 22 years now... I've gotten to do a fair amount of "living". This is just stage 4 --- the part where you kind of want to pick your last spot... and where your friends want to come and hang out... and it only gets to this stage when your kids are grown and on their own... and you have no other "ties" to the big city. And here's the part I like the best.... Since this is a truck and trailer thread! I have to take the trailer down to Jerome to Freightliner of Idaho so they can try to get me some trailer brakes... It's a nice straight shot down Idaho 75...for about an hour and a half -- and I'll hit two stop lights.... and not a single FREEWAY. That's "living" in my book. :headspin: |

There's just no getting ahead of you is there.... |
Can't say I've been to Sun Valley, travel through the "area" on the way to Bonneville though. Baker City is a nice place to hang out, the diner across from Les Schwab used to have the best biscuits and gravy....until you find out what's in it and have read the Healthy Living thread!:confused18:
Hard to beat that small town atmosphere. I used to own a Motel in Spearfish South Dakota, family still does. When we'd head back it was like traveling back in time. Sad to think what the Walmart has done to that town:shakehead: Do you own enough real estate at the cul-d-sac to put in a short driveway? Just enough to pull into and than back into the main? I'm sure you'll figure out something....maybe you could get a dually with a 24' enclosed to make things easier :lmao: |

The thought has crossed my mind.... J/K Already have it all worked out. It was as simple as revisiting the Cul d Sac and looking at it -- and where my driveway will be etc. It's a non issue. |
You don't really realize how big these pigs are until you have to wash it!!! OMG there's a lot of square footage there!! Good thing I have the de-ionizer so I don't have to dry it too!!!

I'd really like to drive Watkins Glen.... so will be looking for an event/date that I can make to do that. That -- and I want to do power tour.... and will have to find someone that will follow along the route in "da rig". But I'm waiting for the '33 to get finished... and now it seems I'm also trying to find a second track car. :D |
