Cris are you referring to the GMR housing?Do they run inner (center section) seals?

Hi Ron,

Your project is looking solid!

Figured I would answer this question. Yes and No, we do recommend the usage of "inner" axle tube seals BUT..... really feel they are best suited for dedicated track cars. The reason for this recommendation is the likely hood that gear oil could make its way past this inner seal unknowingly during every day driving, auto-x, open track, etc., trapping precious gear oil in the axle tube and away from the center section potentially causing damage. These seals have proven to be very effective in racing environments but are usually inspected after each race by removing the 3rd member (or hub dust cap in Full Floater applications to see if oil is present, which if present would be a good indicator that the inner seal has leaked). In a street driven application we feel this type inspection may not be desirable every few hundred miles to assure the inner seal is functioning properly, and is the reason for our “track only” recommendation.

Hope this was helpful.

Jay

Really good point Jay. My hub dust cap is not a positive seal (inner seal seems to be; it takes a hammer to get it in!), so any oil past the inner or outer seal will show up somewhere. My key take away from your post is to watch the gear oil regularly, which is something I do on my junk...

Rybar 08-10-2012 10:30 AM

That is great info, I've just run into some similar issues on another T56 we were dealing with.

Gandalf 08-14-2012 11:25 AM

Awesome attention to detail Brett - small things like writing those measurements where someone else might see them later can make all the difference.

Always a great moment of anticipation and excitement before insertion. You don't want to be off or you could bend or even break your shaft trying to force it at the wrong angle.

Dude...I made that bone head move so many times I lost count.

GregWeld 08-23-2012 02:43 PM

I was waiting for a replay of the TV show with Boyd Coddington's shop when a couple of his boneheads were hammering on the trans and jamming it in and doing all manor of destructive maneuvers... I haven't watched TV since I shot them both on screen... :willy:

But then I snapped out of my delirium and realized that this was a PROFESSIONAL installation!
