Thanks Wayne!!

Roy originally wanted me to order the tan top... I'm so glad I didn't listen and got the black one instead... I think it helps the attitude of the car -- and makes it "go away" better --- rather than the tan top which would have been more "prominent".

Gwen's 650i Convertible (that I traded in without her permission) was this dark blue with a black top and I always liked that combo.

Beautiful car Greg -- looks so aggressive and so clean with the black top

Thanks Raj!

Aggressive attitude but traditional was the goal... I think it works. Just simple not too much chrome or glitz... looks like it's ready to race just standing still... and it sounds good without being stupid lumpy.

I hope she likes it.

Vince@Meanstreets 01-11-2014 07:08 AM

ok, hood and top seems to work alright. I still like it.

DOOM 01-11-2014 07:13 AM

Greg all I can say is its SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!! Man I can't believe its finally done!!

Thanks buddy!!

If you weren't trying to build a friggin' Riddler car - your's might be done too! LOL

Mine is nothing but a body on a chassis with a motor in it.

GregWeld 01-12-2014 07:14 AM

And for those of you that are NOT going to The Grand National Roadster Show... (I'm truly sorry you're not!)

A couple more pics

The ugly duckling doesn't look so bad now with the hoodsides on.... (I'll hear from Charley about this comment I'm sure).

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...img_63_std.jpg

And the prerequisite "Buick" finned front brake drums....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...img_59_std.jpg

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...img_58_std.jpg

Wherein there are these HUGE (LOL) Wilwoods.....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...img_57_std.jpg

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...img_61_std.jpg

And now you see why I had the spreader bar painted instead of chromed... I thought it being chromed would take away the nice curves of the grill... So I had it painted to make it go away.

Winning! That motor looks just fine in there, right Charlie?

carbuff 01-12-2014 08:07 AM

Looks great! I saw one yesterday that reminded me of your project. Eric actually did some work on this car when it was being built, he handcrafted the valve covers as I understand it...

^^^^^^^That car did the distance on the Goodguys California to Texas Road trip. Built to drive!!!!! 2038 miles.

Greg, I hope you and your wife do the same with this beautiful work of art Brizio created via your eye for detail!!!!!!

Great job, hopefully will see it in person some day as i cant make the unveiling....

jimbo 01-12-2014 09:58 AM

What are you going to do if your wife really does like it and wants to drive it all the time? Drive the red car?

Yeah -- I'm a goat herder so have other stuff to tear the tires off of.

I'm already cooking up my next project to build in the new "shed".

And by the way -- I hope she loves it so much she never let's be drive it. Life would be complete then!

Musclerodz 01-12-2014 11:29 AM

If I wasn't going to sacramento the weekend after, i would be there. Definitely sucks.

SSLance 01-12-2014 11:54 AM

Those front brakes aresweet.

When I saw the drums I was like "I know the look he's going after and it works, but I thought Greg was building this thing to drive..." then they were unveiled... :hail:

Should keep the brake pad dust to a minimum as well, nice kit. Car looks great. How much does Gwen know about it? Any at all, total surprise or general idea just waiting on the reveal?

So far I've managed to keep it a total secret - going on almost 2 years now! I just have to keep her away from Charley.

SSLance 01-12-2014 12:16 PM

Seriously? That is cool... :D Nice job on the surprise.

waynieZ 01-13-2014 07:27 AM

I love the idea of the hidden front rotors. A big show like GNRS is on my bucket list before I croak. It looks awesome!

Wayne -- the thing that's fun about this show is that for most of us -- the weather is usually pretty decent --- It's Los Angeles -- there's tons of stuff to do... Most of us need a car fix come January.

What I do is go to the show FRIDAY while everyone in LA is working.... and then on Saturday I go do shop tours because there's a ton of em around there. Usually end up at the Starbucks on the Pacific Coast Hiway -- in Newport Beach watching the sunset and all the killer cars that use the road.

So for me -- it's more than a car show (which to me are BORING) -- it's a trip with a car show that sets the date to have to be there.

My finest work ever :sieg:

GregWeld 01-14-2014 06:54 AM

Well thank gawd I don't listen to his design ideas... 'cause that's FUGLY.

clill 01-14-2014 07:15 AM

I like it. Show it to Roy and Sid.

I only take their advice when I agree with them.

Think about it -- Roy has a '32 Ford with chameleon paint... and a GOLD '55 with wide whites... I love him -- and have told him so - but I've also ridden him like a bad pony over getting those two painted - since he seems to have a Brother in Law that can lay it down.

Now Sid on the other hand has a really really sweet Black '32 that I'd own in a heartbeat - but it's his daily driver (it will also be at GNRS on display).

Ketzer 01-14-2014 08:02 AM

That maroon top with that black paint is money!...

Wait until Charlie gets together with Gwen and tells her how much it would improve "the look." :D

I can keep that from happening...

All I have to do is tell Gwen -- "Charley is going to be there"... and she'll stay home.

She did love the trip to Laguna Seca though! So maybe I can only keep her away from Thunderhill. That's not her favorite track/town.

Who'd build a POS like that?

coolwelder62 01-16-2014 05:25 AM

What an amazing ride. I love these car's,but could never have one. I'd be the only street rodder running around in one with a top 3in taller:badidea: than stock.

You and Jody could share it!!

Wonder what they call the opposite of chopping a top???

Raising the roof?? LOL

IDK.

Thanks Scott! Hope she likes it.

Just scale up, Blastolene style, or build a larger vehicle in the old channeled/unchopped big roof style - that's what they looked like.

That's not going to happen -- I hate it. Roy tried to talk me into ordering the body with the tan top.... Then when we were at Sids he said -- Glad you ordered the black top instead of the tan one...

That maroon (you maroon's!) would clash with the RED interior. The pictures are off color (I didn't take them so can't be held accountable). The interior is really RED not the brownish red color as posted.

THIS is the color....

I just borrow it from Charley and then don't pay him back - so to me - it's free.
