A guy who's going to make the corner at 14.... Looks to me like he might have been on the bridge?? |

I didn't see the start finish -- that's what happens when you're on the road (just got home).... I thought the video was shot from overhead and figured it was the back straight from the bridge....
Where'd ya shoot that from Dave?? PS -- Spent 90 minutes uploading a video to YouTube -- and when I got all done the azzwipes tell me they deleted it because it was too long! Quote:

Hey Greg, do you remember how you were taking turn one? I usually brake in a straight line then turn in gradually applying throttle pedal through the middle and out of turn one.
I know I could pick up at least 2 more seconds there just need to figure it out. If I could get passed the pucker factor I'm thinking I could trail brake in. I did the math and with a 25.6 tall tire and 3:42 gears at 6200 rpm I'm doing close to 140 mph before turn one. I'm hoping the adjustments to my alignment are going to help me next time out. |
I personally LOVE turn one! Mach 2 down the straight - I brake just enough to cause some turn in and hit the first apex with the front tire on the curb and carry wide and on throttle to the far side of the track and dang near put the passenger front in the dirt there... then I come back a bit for the beginning of turn 2... and just let the speed scuff off there feathering the throttle so as not to scuff off too much... and I gradually turn in for the apex on the far side - I drop to third and get hard on the gas just for a bit - then a tap on the brakes and scuff off and start that off camber turn in for 3... the one turn I don't like!
I passed a couple guys in that short straight just before 3 and I can tell you that going deep there and to the far left is NOT the place to be! That's pucker territory! I'm hauling ass down the main straight WOT.... so yeah - a buck 40 or so is probably about right. This time I used up the entire memory card in the Contour GPS for Gwens runs... so I didn't have the track data for my runs. I switched to the Go Pro for that. Tried to post that video to YouTube but the bungholes said it was "too long" - so I'll have to find a way to edit it and then repost it. |
Interesting.....I carry speed as far as I can down the straight and move far right at end of straight braking as late as possible before turning in which is probably why I'm uneasy through there. Hoping the alignment changes are going to help.
I signed up for July 1st NCRC T Hill event but dont think I can wait that long. NASA will be there May 19th and 20th and I may have to do that one as long as there running the bypass configuration because that is the config I started tuning with. |
Charley might chime in here -- he's run that track a bazillion laps. I'm a complete newb.... but I do - like you - like to listen to how others take various turns. One of the guys there that is smokin' quick - as in sub 2's with The Cyclone (Kevin) was discussing his line with us...
Of course it's one thing to take his line - it's quite another to take his line at the speeds he's taking them! He also reminded me --- that I'm on 245's.... so "relatively" skinny tires. There was an early Mustang out there running 315's on the front and he was much faster. Not sure what else was on the car - but his tires were steam rollers compared to what Charley - Chet - and Pete and I are running on our "vintage" track cars. Charley's '66 is running drum rears! |
I just got a message from the chief pre-grid steward that NASA will most likely be running bypass. We'll see how my latest changes will turn out.
Hopefully Charlie will chime in. Turn 1 and turn 9 is what I'll be working on. I dont use all of 9 and need to pick up my speed going in and comeing out of 9. I know your supposed to trail brake about in the middle of 8 and 9 in order to set up for 9. I need to be in the 2:04's to be satisfied. That will mean knocking 3.5 seconds off of my current times. |
