We took a brake from the Transmission and mounted the 5th gen console in the car for its test fit. It's going to work out pretty good with the B&M Pro Ratchet shifter. The cable might be a trick but we have a few ways to try.

Interesting carpet pattern. Not sure it goes with the overall flow of the car though lol
|
AJ, I'm going to put the same thing on the hood and trunk for stripes it'll bring it all together
|
That 5th gen console looks good in there Wayne.

The first time I saw a 5th gen Camaro I thought about how sweet I thought it would look in there but that was way on the back burner back then. Then I saw jwcarguy's build with it installed in his 68 and it stuck in my head again. I picked it up a couple of years ago and now I can finally use it. I bought Autometer gauges for the car, but Dakota Digitals would look sweet in the 5th gen gauge pod. |
A couple of days ago we installed the finch Vent, and measured the hoses so they could be sent to crimp them. I got an e mail they are on there way back.

Here's what we did to the shift lever. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/5Tpotr.jpg Here's what we ended with. I have an aluminum pane ordered, the cable should make it by on that one. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/qu3z6v.jpg |
Nice Wayne, that console looks great!!

Moving ahead
Wow, Wayne, before long you're going to walk out into the garage and say,
" Well, time to strip this thing down for paint!" |
Wayne, what is the Finch vent for? The gas tank ??

Man I really like that 5 Gen console.... looks right at home.

Thanks Mikael! I started on the gauge pod for it, I'm trying to do something like Jeff (jwcarguy) did on his console. now that I tried I'm finding out I'm blind as a bat and have trouble cutting a straight line no matter what I use. lol
I took a few pictures of my attempt. First I measured everything to get an idea where to start. Then I trimmed the Gauge pod, it got trimmed more after this picture. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/DfhaBW.jpg Then cut out the console trim piece. This one had the change dish. (no gauges) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/tmU3U8.jpg Then I started fitting it in trimming a little at a time. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/j0CMHn.jpg It fits in pretty decent, it's just laying there with tape on the bottom. I'll do a little more tomorrow. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/QJ4sGu.jpg I also painted a few pieces and restored the brake pedal since I'm not using the standard set up now. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/vxbSA2.jpg I also got the DSE RS electric door motors installed and tried them with a power supply. To ghet them in we had to pull the radiator and the intercooler tank to get at the bolts. But at least it's done. |
The hoses I sent to be crimped came back and we installed the fuel filter
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/u4bZkW.jpg I finally got around to installing my Emergency brake kit from Kore 3 It's a nice complete kit and even after having it for 2 years I got in touch with Tobin and he was right back to me with the help I needed. First backing plate installed http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/Yn2wb5.jpg Axle in http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/8ff4um.jpg All assembled just need to bolt on the Caliper and move to the other side. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/sTMD9g.jpg I wired in the plug for the starter and it's all hooked up, and put the Holley end on the Alternator and connected the charging wire to my main battery cable. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/dSty4g.jpg I ordered this Hopefully I'll use it before the warranty is over on it. :lmao: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/9VHuEH.jpg |
Coming along nicely!

I had to change one bolt on the drivers side for the brake kit. No one had one anywhere around me not even my go to Aquidneck fasteners. I had to order them from McMaster-Carr, which they were great I ordered 2AM Monday and had them 4pm Tuesday. Can't ask for anything better than that. The drivers side is all put back together with the caliper all shimmed and ready to go with the e brake inside the hub.
Now the passenger side is another story. I put all the shims on the axle because of the weird off set i had made ( totally my fault ) so we put the bolts in and start tightening them up, grade 8 fine thread with crush nuts. ( slightly out of round for a locking effect.) First three going fine just to snug for an even clamping. Go around again to finish tighten same three fine fourth one Seized like you wouldn't believe! I'm not a little guy and my buddy has hands twice my size, it kicked the crap out of us!! Wouldn't budge we tried everything we had. Only one thing left. Die grinder with a cut off wheel. First we had to dis connect the coil over for room then get ready for some fun. we sliced the head of the bolt and he got under there and chiseled the rest off. which went pretty easy for what we were expecting it to be. Luckily I ordered 2 extra bolts. But that ended the fun for the day. This is the one that's done http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/rXujpE.jpg Here's the carnage. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/IRhTOz.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/UPYbbQ.jpg and the cause of the problem. When I had the rear built it got old Ford big bearings and I wanted the in hat parking brake and it needed different off set on the axle. so a special kit had to be put together. The kit is great but getting the housing ends to work is all the fun. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/A4Kuaj.jpg |
That's nice you got your bolts that quickly, I had a similar experience with Digi-key. On the other hand, I've dealt with some places that can't even have stuff that is supposed to be in stock packaged with a tracking number in three or four days.
Things are looking good, keep chipping away. :) |
Thanks, Aquidneck was going. To order it but they had to order 6 cases I only needed 4 but they tried for me.
|
Looking good Wayne. Coming along nicely
|
Thanks Mike.
I finished the other side of the rear brakes yesterday. Now it's on to the coil overs as soon as I get time. I've got some family stuff going on for a few weeks so I'll be off the car for a while. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/iPgPHx.jpg |
I was looking at a couple of sets of Recaro seats for the Camaro but missed out on both sets. So I picked these up.

Well I'm back from 15 days in Fl seeing my brother, my 2 sister in laws, Then to Suffolk Va. for 4 days for my grandson's Baptism. It was great to see them all, but now worried about Irma. They're all on the east cost in Fl, and where my daughter lives near Norfolk it floods with a good rain. My son in law is a Navy corpsman and might get sent to the Caribbean today for hurricane relief.
I hope they all do OK then maybe I can get back at it in the garage and pick up where I left off. I just got word my seats are on their way. |
Seats came in Tuesday they look pretty good.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/SdFTaP.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/sMMY01.jpg I finished epoxying in the Auto Meter gauge pod on my 5th gen console, here's a couple of quick shots of it. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/aGVYkP.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/A2FKtK.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/QHcJwJ.jpg ' http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/fv8ZSv.jpg I"ll finish it with a thin coat of filler and then probably have it hydro dipped. |
Woo Hoo, It's looking good. I believe that console is going to be a nice touch once complete.
Did you go ahead and sit in the seat and get that feeling again of actually driving the car, not just climbing in and out of it to work on it? To me, when that point came it was like a shot of adrenaline to help me thru the long laborious process. Dennis :trophy-1302: :flag2: :king: |
Not yet, my knees were aching from standing on the concrete floor for 6 hours sanding the console. I was Afraid I would never want to get out the seats look so comfortable! lol. Compared to the factory seats.
|
Looking good, Wayne!
|
great job on the console Wayne...keep plugging away!
|
Nice mix of classic and modern there, I like it!!
|
Thanks guys, I went by my buddy's shop (He will be painting the car ) to ask him to let me have some filler to finish it up. He says sure as he does with anything I ever need. He takes it fills it we start bull****ting, then he tells me to wait til it hardens, then he sand it down. I told him I'll do it he says it needs another coat put it on and sands that. He mentions he forgot to eat so I offer to go get him lunch. I get back it's all sanded and primed. He tells me to wait 3-4 day then water sand it with 600. Then he says bring it back and we'll paint it if you want.
Here's how it came out. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/DR0EAr.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/1CLmoV.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/MrWYop.jpg All it cost me was a cheese burger and a coke, a small one at that. I'm going to see if he has some pictures of the custom work he did. It was amazing. When I had the 73 Z/28 he was going to put a worrier like Zena with a sword holding a Cobra she killed on the center of the L88 hood in the center. We never got to do it. |
While I was on lite duty from the Doc, I started working on the dash. I have a billet gauge panel from Eddie MotorSports (now sold at TthePartsPlace) and a factory style dash panel that you need to use the Metron part in. The factory style part gets cut up and most of the middle is removed. Then you install the billet piece between the two out side parts of the factory pieces. They give you little clips which I didn't have much luck with. So I put it together and epoxied it in place. Not sure if this was a good idea but it's what I did.
Here are a couple of pics of it together drying. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/923/kkTVe8.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/923/OGjpm4.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/5BeBeU.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/fHC0nV.jpg I made a little fudge near the heater control opening, you can see it in the first picture. I need to try to fix that without making it worst with my shaky hands. |

Well it's been a while since I posted Three weeks ago I had some funky growth on my finger remove and it's taking long than expected to work again. But we got a few things done. I installed the temp sensor on my Aluminum Hugh's trans pan and got it on the car. It's the shallow one and it is only as deep as my oil pan on the motor so it doesn't hang down.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/924/jaLAp7.jpg I also put in my oil pressure sender for my Auto Meter gauge up top of the motor with this Aeroflow adapter. it's a nice piece. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/924/TIH8ij.jpg And here are the two oil pressure senders A.M. to the side and Factory one on top. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/924/rWBMHG.jpg Now if they don't leak I'm golden. |
Nice work, looks very clean. :) I like that transmission oil pan too.
Did you know the transmission oil temp and engine oil pressure can be read through the CAN bus? Of course you would need a set of gauges that could interpret that information. |
I have a bad habit of trying to get ahead of things most the time I bike myself in the ass like this time. I ended up buying a ton of Auto Meter gauges, ultra lites to use I like them but I also like the Dakota digital gauges. Which probably would be able to be used with the can bus system.
|
SpeedHut gauges have a CAN buss setup. plug it into the DLC and it pulls RPM, speed, coolant temp, oil pressure, oil temp, ect. pretty cool setup.
|
The Dakota Digital gauges will work with the CAN / OBD bus when using their adapter (at least the last set I installed required it). I am not sure if the CAN / OBD integration is standard in their new HDX line of gauges or not. In my opinion for the price and level of other features, CAN / OBD integration really should be on the list if it isn't already.
SpeedHut gauges were the other brand that came to mind with CAN / OBD integration. I personally have't looked at them too deeply because they don't have a drop in that fits my dash and I want to keep that vintage look at a glance. |
