How much hp was the engine making naturally asperated? And do you know how much psi the kit is pushing?
Im not sure if this is totaly correct but i heard that if you had say a 300 hp n/a engine and had 14.7 psi of boost, the engines horsepower would double and be 600. But there are variables that come in to aspect like the density/tempurature of the air being forced into the intake and also the octane level in the fuel. I alwase wondered if the banks twin turbo kit could give that much hp with out an intercooler. Jason Wilcox from banks has given me a lot of info on their turbo system and turbocharging ingeneral. he is a member in this forum so if u have any questions for him go 2 the banks page. he seems like a good guy |
im getting off of the subject lol
anywho what would be my best bet for a transmission im lookin at the G-force t56, ive been trying to find some hp ratings on the the richmond 5 speed, 5 speed road race and 6 speed overdrive trannys (the 6 speed looks good), and a D&D t56. Also is there a company that makes a really strong tko? |
For an out of the box, completely stock tranny, I'd say your best bet would be the TKO600.
What is your budget, what's kind of torque are you going to make, and are you going to run slicks? |
Im not in any kind of a rush cause im just planning the build now and im willing to spend probly around $2,500 max but the cheeper the better!!!cause i dont have a lot to throw around lol
um Im thinking around 8-950 ft.lbs. max but for street driving I would tone it down to about 650-850 ft.lbs. I am going to drive the car hard and Ill probly have around 13 inches of Nitto nt555r Extremes in the back or Michelin Pilot Sports on a 19x12 wheel, or if I feel like goin strait i would get some 13 inch wide MickeyThompson Sportsman or Sportsman Pro rubber on a 15 inch wheel. But I will most likely run the Nittos or Michelins (what in your opinion is better? or do you like any other tires like these with good tread wear?) i dont think i will put on slicks tho. |
I try my best to avoid the whole shameless plug thingie (I'm the paddle shifter guy)
Most of my clients are making big power and would have liked to run a manual trans, but settled on automatics for reliability per dollar reasons--So, while they may prefer manuals, they choose automatics out of necessity and peace of mind. When you throw manumatic capability into the mix, (computer and electronic shifter) these customers are once again excited about their transmission choice. Something to think about--especially considering your budget. /Steevo |
who makes a good upgrade kit for a tko600?
|
O/D with 1000 hp?
you dont need a o/d trans - with that much power - run direct drive 1000hp should move anything on 4 wheels  as for the 1000 hp- i cant afford that much fuel

i have 706/1100 hp in my 37 ford.i run a 5 spd street lenco.i had 3.73's before when it had a 632,think about a 3.50 gear now.it's not an od but will take the tq and with a 3.50 gear should be highway friendly.on the street a well built t-56 shoud work fine, and take some drag strip abuse too.

Take in all of the advice and options you are getting from this thread. The guys that are answering you have built some of the best combinations around. I too got hooked on the Alumin8r (yellow 69 Camaro) after seeing the original video of it. Something about a forced induction big block just gets the 'ol blood flowing. With regards to your transmission, most specialists that I spoke with said that a properly prepped TKO600 should handle a higher torque load than a T-56 in gears 1-4. In both transmissions, running in 5th or 6th gear is not recommeded under high torque loads. While researching the tranny issue, I was pointed to Promotion Powertrain in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. You can speak with the owner, Walt. He thinks the TKO600 he built will withstand 1200-1400 hp, maybe more. They get a brand new tranny, take it apart, cryogenically treat, polish and replace the gears, beef up a bunch of the internals, tighten up the tolerances and add an external girdle that further strengthens the transmission case against flexation. |
