Congrats Jason,
I would go a 540 cube procharged BB and one of those new 6 speed sequential boxes to start with just to get the cruising sound right. Then put some 1 off custom wheels and refuse to sell them to any other Buick drivers. Big brakes and get Tyler to hook you up with some carbon fibre sample bits from Anvil. Now that would look tuff. I had a 55 Buick when I had my last 68 Camaro but it was a total ****ter.
Regards
Adam

Ps Wheels arrive this week hopefully in time for the Hot rod show

Very cool A-Body Jason, the fact that it's a Buick makes it even cooler.

Jason:

"Dare to be Different!", and keep the, "Nailhead 401". They are starting to build good Nailhead parts and they have tons of Torque Bone Stock anyway. I think the 401's make 445 ft pounds at 2800 rpm's.

There is a good Nailhead site in Yahoo Groups. Edelbrock is looking at making some aluminum heads for them as well.

They look like no other engine out there and some sweet 2X4 intakes, good Cams, Headers, roller rockers, MSD Distributors, etc. are already being built.

Do give it some thought, I have a Riviera (1965) with a 425 c.i. and for a 4400 pound car it will **** and Get.

Give it some serious thought. T A Performance makes a lot of Nailhead Stuff as do others. If interested, PM me and I'll pass along my contacts. Big Sway Bars, quick ratio steering boxes are all available.

It sounds like from the first description that it may have an Automatic. Before you yank it out, check out the, "Switch Pitch", convertors that are made to be run off the throttle or a isolated toggle switch. You can drive around and have it stall at about 1800 rpm's, or toggle your switch and have it stall at about 3000. It's a very cool set up, and one which can allow you to really surprise a lot of people of a light. They kept those Tranny's until '67 then went with the THM400. The Switch Pitch is basically a 400 with the special Convertor and valve body on it I believe.

It looks like you bought a Jewel. I hope you have a blast with it Please keep us posted on your progress, or at least me and the people at the Nailhead Forum on Yahoo. Back in, "The Day", they were one of THE engines to Hotrod because they made all that torque so easily.

The Bottom end in those already have forged cranks and rods. With a set of pistons a turbo would really wake one up in a hurry.

Anyway, have fun and Congratulations.

Thanks a ton for the support, everyone!

Thanks for all the Buick insight, Ty. I'm not normally one to cross pollenate brands but right now, it has a 300 with the Buick version of the Powerglide so neither of them are really going to cut it but if i found a cost effective way to do a 350-400 hp Buick mill with a 6 speed or an overdrive automatic, I would definitely explore it.

I justify the LS motor in my own mind by the fact GM has already spread them among a few brands and if the Buick folks stopped pandering to blue-hairs, they too could have an LS and rear wheel drive. Maybe now that Pontiac is going the way of Olds, they will reconsider it?

I agree with Musclecar John, its almost to nice to cut up. The FUEL wheels would look great with the darker centers, I personally like the white stock interior, just my 2 cents. See what you can do on the suspention without going crazy and spending a zillion dollars, a LS style motor, for reliability and less trouble down the road. As far as a transmission, I personally think that an automatic overdrive would be great for style and comfort. 18s all the way around should fit well and keep the proportions looking balanced, without having to go crazy on suspention mods as well as clearance issues front and rear. Kinda like the silver blue too, looks great on those sharp lines, and flat panels, hey its yours do what you would like to it! Just my my opinion, looks like youre gonna have fun, what ever you do to it! Way cool!
