Funny.... I was with a couple "newbs" today at a swap meet - we discussed some of the "odd ball" cars there for sale. I was trying to explain to them - that it cost the same money for motor rebuilds - paint - interior - wheels etc to do the odd ball -- and sometimes because of parts that are unavailable - might actually cost MORE to do than one of the bellybutton "popular" cars...

I don't think they got it -- but I tried. All they could see was "it's rare" -- or "it's cheap".... And I kept telling them --- YEAH -- it's rare because nobody wanted it then either... and NO -- it's not cheap when you lose your azz on the sell side... and pay more than it was worth to fix up.

Of course the "rare" comment is for the "not really so rare" cars such as a Rambler -- or some odd Ford etc... I'm not talking about the ULTRA really rare cars such as a 1 of 69 - or a 1 of 16 car...

But no matter what you spend on an Edsel -- it's still an Edsel.

No, not really.. other cars like II Much when for WAY MORE than expected.

Frank just didn't have two heavy hitters to bid.. just a bad break.

This is the single biggest factor in how low or high a car goes for at BJ!

No question about this fact - it takes TWO to make an auction... but then again - you have to ask yourself why there weren't TWO people that wanted it.

One of the newbs I was with today says -- I don't want those Torque Thrust II's -- EVERYBODY has them...

To which I replied -- "why do you think that is? Ya think maybe it's because EVERYBODY likes 'em?"...

Sometimes it just doesn't "pay" to be different...

Two chicks in a room -- one is the cute hottie -- the other well... not so hot... which one does everyone want? Now... do you no longer want her because everyone else does?

I rest my case. :captain:

The not so hot one might be wilder cause she doesn't get it as much...

I was also really shocked to see it only fetch $85K. It's truly an amazing ride and great representative of the builder's capabilities. BJ was really working that auction hard too, delaying and delaying, but as someone else mentioned, they just didn't get the interest at that particular moment. I've seen Pontiacs fetch some nice prices, especially the 69 and 70 TA's and the 73 and 74 Super Duty TA's, so I wouldn't bash Pontiac too much! With highly customized cars like this bird, it can be exceptionally and hit and miss when it comes up on the block. Only an hour or so earlier a '67 Camaro Pro-touring painted with a solid cobalt blue brought $102K and it wasn't anything overly special. It just was fortunate enough to get a bidding war. Even the commentators were a bit stunned that it fetched $102K. It's both funny and sad to see how things work at these 'no reserve' auctions. I truly feel for the sellers who get short-changed, but that's the chance they take.

I did notice one of the brake lights was out. Maybe the driver didn't push on both brake pedals at once.
