Well --- YES and NO....
The "real" Nomads (55 56 57) you're thinking about are 2 door wagons - with special roof lines etc... BUT -- BIG BUT -- in 1958 they turned into 4 door wagons... Actually - they might be MORE RARE as 4 doors (I call them "MORE DOORS") than they are as 2's.. |
Forgot to respond correctly ---
Chevrolet made a "Nomad" model - until '61 - and the first one - was really the Waldorf Nomad introduced in 1954. But production cars are '55 / '56 / '57 - and then the "more door" versions thru '61... |
Hey don't make fun of that 61 ,I had one like that I used when I was rebuilding my 302 for my Z28. It was a 283 with a powerglide. You don't know how nice a big car is until you have one and your 17:evil:

When I was 17 - I had a 265 solid lifter Power Pack '55 Nomad - Coral and Ivory... 3 speed column car...
AND A '55 C/Gas 2 door handyman.... 272 PG car... AND I worked at Portland International Raceway (as it was called then) AND I pit crewed occasionally for Ed McCulloch and Art Whipple....  Does that count as having a "long roof" car?? http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...andWhipple.jpg |
I always wanted to see a '59 wagon as a 2 door. The Sedan Deliverys are great (Mothers is killer), but I want to see a wagon.

I LOVE the Mothers SD... I wonder if a guy couldn't just cut the metal out of where the windows should be and get glass to fit. Would make a really cool project... and people would stare trying to figure out why they haven't seen these wagons before. |
It would definatley make an interesting project. I'm not a builder, but I think I would start by removing all metal, and adapting a wagon roof. I like Foose's thinking on some things, "I want it to look like it came from the factory". Then relocate all the pillars, to where they need to be. At that point you would have to fit custom glass. The main point is to keep the wagon roofline, and the wrap around back glass. There are many ways to skin the cat...or car on this one. Why not use a wagon, weld up the back doors, extend the front doors, and move the pillars? Hmmm, any takers?? LOL
