Another horrible ebay ad. Junk pictures. Not even a shot of the underside.

Good for him if it's real money. But any ad with "private listing - bidders' identities protected" is BS IMO.

Two dual reservoir master cylinders?

10,000 man hours? WTF!

Furthermore, there is really no point in a private listing anymore since no one can see the bidder's identity but the seller. My money is on "not real bids".

Like others said, don't always believe bids you see on Ebay, especially if the reserve hasn't been met yet. Unfortunately, for high-dollar items, a number of people use their buddies to bid the item up to a point right below the reserve, so the next person to come in(all excited by seeing the bids and interest in the car) and make his own bid will hit the reserve causing that bidder to be contractually bound to pay. Or, the seller does 2 auctions, the first auction is used to hype the car with some very high false bidding and then the 2nd auction is where they truly try to sell the car at a much lower reserve. "Wow, people were willing to pay $148K for this car 2 weeks ago, it's a steal now at $90K." They can also use these false auctions to convince someone to buy it from them outside of Ebay. "Hey man, you see what's it's being bid up to on Ebay don't you?"

It's a definitely a nice car though. I hope the seller fetches a reasonable price for it and the buyer is happy with it.

If I ever have to sell my car I am going to have to remember these tricks to get more exposure and the best ebay price to show prospective buyers.

Nice car but the hours they say they have in it would mean one heck of a learning curve on everything from building the engine to how do I put lug nuts on school ,LOL!!!!

Yeah, what everyone else pointed out.

No way 10K hours...even at $60 an hour thats $600K plus the $150K in parts (hard to believe) that is still a $750K car to build...

Come on Greg, here's your chance--you can join us on the Camaro Site for reals (as my kids say)---just put in a $150k bid on that thing--you can tell Charley that this car had way more hours put into it than JA, and the X-Tra-thick-396.

Man, after all this bashing, I hope one of the members here isn't bidding on it and introduces themselves under new members next week. That could be uncomfortable, except for Todd of course.

I believe they are asking too much for this camaro especially when it has stock subframe and this engine set up.

I really like the way cars built by reputable builders in this forum like DSE, Prodigy Customs and Fesler..

Ad states it's a DSE frame..... not that it matter much.

I called Charley -- He refused to back me on the bidding. Told me "your skull, is extra thick"...

What is an "extra thick 396 block"? My recollection of 396's is that they were just factory castings... and that they were easy to window.

I'm no engine builder - heck - I can barely identify a cam from a crank... but I really don't understand the "extra thick" reference... perhaps he meant extra thick as compared to a standard casting -- but that could mean that the one he was lucky enough to have surveyed was a few thousandth thicker than "the other one" they looked at....

I Cut and pasted this from a build article in HOT ROD....

Dougan's Engine helped us survey the Merlin III block with a sonic checker, and we found cylinder thrust surfaces averaged 0.440-inch thick at a 4.490 bore, and would end up even thicker than World's guarantee of at least 0.225 at 4.625 bore. Stock blocks are as thin as 0.300 inch at standard bore, and 0.285 at 0.060 over. Likewise, Merlin deck thickness and consistency is far superior to a stock block.

To get 468 out of a 396 - you'd have a bore of 4.185 and a 4.250 stroke... That's a .091 overbore - which can be done... but I wouldn't do it. Particularly not if I was investing 10,000 hours into a build!

Just for fun I researched HAYDOCK RACING -- and could only come up with RACE HORSES - but not the kind of horses we discuss here....

GregWeld 02-09-2010 09:14 AM

I finally found Haydock Racing - and there is such a place that works on or builds motors... But I did get a good laugh at the Haydock Racing that comes up when you google that name... its pages and pages of race horse and horse racing info.

I'll educate you a little old man. The 396 blocks had a little more meat than say an 80's 454 block. They can be bored .100 if sonic checked.:unibrow:
