I think this year the top 5 will be some of the best we've seen yet.
I also think SMOY has taken alot of prestige away from SROY.
They just dont seem as "over-the-top" as they used to be in years past.

I believe your right about the top five. The bar will be raised again. The SMOY seems to be taken center stage the past few years,but that could change in the years ahead also.

Yeah, is it an increase in street machine popularity, or a decrease in street rod popularity?

The street rod fans aren't getting any younger.

I wouldn't think that's it. I have no factual evidence, just observation, but street rods seem to continually renew their enthusiast base with fresh blood. Many of the guys who are "old" street rodders now would have spent their teenage and young adult years in the custom era, and evolved into street rodders. I have quite a few friends who are now in their seventies who tell countless stories about their old fords and mercs, with the skirts, whitewalls, etc. Some of them are now "old" street rodders.

The traditional (not rat) rod lifestyle is huge with 20-somethings now. They build period correct cars and try to live the entire pre-war lifstyle. I can see some of them building mega-buck street rods in future. The whole street rod movement is going that direction. From Boydster, to Impression, to First Love, to Deucenberg, along with the huge traditional trend in general, you can see modern street rods being slowly re-invented.

I think it's just a typical trend pattern. People gravitate towards what is "hot" and right now street rod style muscle cars are the "in" thing. Eventually moods will change, curiousity will set in, and something "new" will emerge.

I tried to find a last minute flight to Columbus or Cleveland.
$ 950.00 was the cheapest..............

I spent twelve hours helping a friend move yesterday. Between being tired and us getting a little rain earlier, I decided to rest up today but I'll be there tomorrow and Sunday snapping like crazy. I'll post lots of pics after I get home. Most likely today was pretty mild because the forecast called for possible thunderstorms Friday, all week. The sky is pretty dark (but no rain right now) as I type this.

Just a warning - I am so addicted to big budget hot rods that I didn't even walk the rest of the fairgrounds last year. I spent three days in the Awards, Manufacturers', and Swap areas. If you really plan to visually dissect these cars, three days isn't much time. You can stare at one for a half-hour, and come back a couple hours later and see things you didn't see...

Rain squashed everything today boys, Autocross was called off. The good news is it really cooled things off and broke the humidity. The SMOY cars are nuts! Rodger has his work cut out for him. I shot about 5 pictures before the rain blew in.

Oh well, tomorrow is supposed to be awesome weather wise.
