Glad you and the family are OK Jeff!

Jeff, you said the dresser fell on your son, I'm assuming he's ok?

Flash68 08-25-2014 10:41 AM

Wow Jeff. Wow. Glad the humans and animals are all okay.

I woke up just prior to the quake. When it hit I though my GF started tossing and turning. Then I realized either she gained a ton of weight or it was an earthquake. Luckily it was just a quake. (haha sorry babe)

I have to admidt it was my first real earthquake, I was supprised that it felt exactly like the earthquake simulator at the museum of science.

We were in Santa Rosa visiting my wife's family, and the pool lost about 8 inches of water as well. Shook the hell out of the house but luckily no other damage.

Wow Jeff. Glad your family is ok first and foremost. Great pics (in the wow/thats aweful sense). The news hasn't shown any of those yet. The pic of that old barn is amazing, so sad.

Tragically, that is not an old barn (well it was a long long time ago) it is a winery that has been producing great wine since 1968.

Yes he is fine. Fortunetly it hit the bed first and the drawers landed on his legs. Just some scrapes and bruises. Minimal in the grand scheme of thing.
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. My family was very lucky compared to many others. We are seeing more and more pictures like this on social media that the mainstream press is not covering. It seems all the stations are showing the same pictures and buildings which are just a small piece of the overall story.

Glad you and the family are all OK Jeff. I can't imagine what that feels like having the ground shake under your feet.

What's really sad is the number of uninsured victims I'm hearing about due to the 'unaffordable' cost of Earthquake and Flood insurance. :shakehead:

I'm on the boundary of a 100 year floodplain and obviously the insurance company thinks Donald Trump is family. :sieg:

I was discussing the earthquake insurance with a couple coworkers today. They said they were quoted $500-$1000 a month depending on size and cost of home. Cost prohibitive for many.

Here is an article on some of the wineries that were hit hard. Trefethen is the one I posted earlier. Hess lost two 10,000 tanks full of wine AND 15,000 cases of wine.

35 building have been red tagged so far with more to come.

We did find some humor in all the reporting though. The media keeps showing the same black sedan that was hit by debris in the bail bonds parking lot. The car, which is a rental car, is our friends who went out for a guys night on Saturday. They did the right thing and took a cab home and car ended up getting smashed up.

Now he is too embarrassed to go down to get the car because of all the media attention.

So how can you help? If you or any friends have trips planned to come to the valley please do not cancel them. The best thing you could do is come to Napa and support the businesses that need your tourist dollars. There are many great restaurants, hotels and wineries that are still open and want your business. Life goes on and we will thrive but need your support.

Hey Jeff, isn't there a car show down there in Napa soon? That would be another way to help. I am glad you and your family are ok.
