If you go based on the amount of work that went into the build, Chip Foose's build would have to take it.

I really want to love what Foose did and the amount of work and scope of the project were obviously insane but there's some design aspects on there that I'm a bit surprised by. I'm sure the fit and finish is incredible and I think it was an awesome, awesome concept but based on the pix I've seen online I'm leaning heavily towards that beautiful 56 Plymouth with Chrysler headlights. That car is stunning.
I will say that this is overall a stronger Great 8 than I've seen in the past where 1 or 2 or even 3 cars were really special. |

That's what they are! Good call Ben! Obviously not stock but I couldn't put my finger on it. I like that they didn't mold them in and left them "stock" looking. Beautiful car, looking forward to seeing all the details on it.

AND THE WINNER IS!
Built by: Chip Foose http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...Ridler%204.jpg Congrats on the Ridler award. I had hoped it would have been GAP Racing but Foose put together an excellent car. William |

Congrats on the win Chip Foose designs....
However after reading the rules for entry I don't believe the car was eligible for entry. Here are the rules, Quote:
I heard this info from 2-3 other Great 8 competitor's who didn't media broadcast their builds. One in particular thought he was getting preferential treatment. Sometimes it's nice to just go and be a spectator and take pictures. :peepwall: Riddler |
Interesting. Can't wait to see more pics of the car and especially the Camaro. The paint looks fabulous but I'm curious about the front grill
|
I know that is why Tim kept his out of view complete or otherwise. Hell it was kept in the clean room in their shop with cardboard covering the windows and a locked door only he had the key too. No phones allowed inside either.
I will say I think I saw some preferential treatment. I saw an article on the Great 8 cars, with all having 1 MAYBE 2 pictures each...Except the Foose build which had 7, and the Green Dart which had 3-4 pictures. Just seems a little biased. William |
Others: Hey Chip, uhhh...I don't think you specifically adhered to the rules.
Chip Foose: Don't hate the player, hate the game!! |
Imposter had fit and finish that you would expect from Foose. The level on integration was spectacular. What alot of you that weren't there didn't see it they had a stock 65 Impala in the display as well with lines drawn on it showing where all the sections were taken out of the body. That was genius. Aside from that, in my opinion when Chip brings a car for the Ridler award he has a huge lead in judging before the car is even unload from the hauler.
I still think visual appeal should be a major part of the criteria. Based on that and if you could be impartial when Foose's name is on the car I don't think Imposter would have won. There was a very strong field of cars there. It was a great show. I hadn't been there since 1992 when I was with a car that made the final group. (Before Official Great 8 designation). I think I will be back every year now. Congrats to all those that made the Great 8 and to Chip and the win! On another note, I wanted to say that the best part of the show to me wasn't even one of the cars. I obviously spent some time in the Great 8 area Saturday. All the time I was there I noticed the owner of the Big Oak Garage 65 Dart. His name is Willie Maise. I could not help but notice what a fantastic time he was having the whole time he was there. He truly enjoyed talking to people about the car and was so proud. He was laughing and smiling every time I saw him. Anything competitive brings alot of drama, especially indoor car shows with this type of award. On the outside it looked as though he could have cared less. He was proud of his car, proud they made the great 8 and was having a blast. That's what this is all about in my opinion. So for Will Posey and Big Oak Garage, not only did they build a fantastic car, they made one owner a very happy and satisfied and gave him a weekend he will I'm sure remember the rest of his life! |
