i was just comparing them to the compressors. In the pic, the compressors look much larger.
The turbo specialist I use usually reccommends a more matched set-up. http://www.nothingained.com/turblown...it/fctkit7.jpg The turbo will spool faster, without as much heat. |

How much power are you trying to make? And in what rpm range? .81 67's... what wheel is in it? Those header primaries sure do look big to be feeding those turbos. My only concern is the intercoolers not being big enough... and with all that room why 3" downpipes? Enough ball breaking. Beautiful car. |

It's not the size of the turbo that makes a car go fast... it's a well matched combination. just because the physical size of the turbo is bigger, does not mean it's going to go faster. The turbo is a PT67 Tangential turbo running an H cover with a P-trim wheel, .81 A/R. Yes....we could run Bigger turbo's and have the potential to make a billion horsepower. But for a street car, that will mostly see street duties, why put turbo's on the car that will be unhappy at 15lbs making 1000hp? These 67's on the 370ci motor in the car will make bad ass power from 2800rpm-6500rpm. We have no intention of spinning this car to the moon. Pete wants a bad ass street car... not a bad ass race car. He will have no problems putting 900-1000 to the tire with this combination. Twin 3" downpipes are way more then enough for this car... This is also going to help the car spool faster, yeah it may hurt it at high rpm.... but by that time... im pretty sure pete is going to be happy with 1200hp! :wow: And... when he puts the 427ci motor in the car next summer... a 76GTS swap will be a direct bolt in. No point for the big turbo's, we'll take the quick spool time and added fun factor on the street. there will be no turbo lag with this bad boy ;) :woot: |

I'm running the same turbos on my 402 LS2, for the same reason. I'll gladly give up the extra 200 hp up top or more to have much less lag and more power than I can possibly use anyway. Jody |

smaller downpipes making it spool faster? That's about 180 degrees from everything I have personally experienced. My thought was exactly that, it's a street car and he wants it to spool relatively quickly, but without being overly brutal. Going from 3" pipes to 4" made the twin .96a/r 76GTS (on a 510ci V10) spool just under 300 rpm quicker and picked up 150rwhp. Essentially free HP is good stuff. I don't ever build a car for peak numbers, it's all about the area under the curve and holding the torque as long as possible. I'm not Tom Nelson or Mike Lefevers, but I did manage to put down 1496rwhp @ 25psi with a hydraulic roller V10 with a stock intake manifold and a 6200rpm rev limiter. And just under 1100rwhp @ 12psi on 93 pump. |

those 76's on your 510 ci motor are going to act just like our 67's on the 370ci motor. your pushing almost 4L a side... were only pushing 3.2 or something. So we in turn should have almost the same response that your car does. Either way... the car is going to rock out and be fun...... Also... I may have said the downpipe thing wrong... it won't help spool time, it will increase backpressure upstairs hurting high end numbers. (my bad... typing to fast) This was a post to show off some craftsman ship we did on pete's car.... I don't want it to turn into who's smarter about turbo's. We don't know everything about them... we know a lot, but not everything. Check out our website though..... we have also had some very good turnout's with the turbo car's we've put out. Back to the post now... Joe |
Didn't mean to get way off topic. The car is very nice and I am sure the owner will be more than happy.
The turbo in the pic i posted is only a T04. So, by no means am I suggesting a larger turbo. It's all about the match up of compressor to turbine. From what I've seen, larger downpipes (4"), and better matched (larger) turbine housings create more boost, and spool faster. I just noticed that the hotside looked a little small in comparison to the compressor. Those intercoolers should be fine, I mean the fact that there are two of them, plus they are right out front, nothing blocking them from fresh, cold air. I really like the craftsmanship of the peripherials in the engine bay. The hardlines for the master cylidar look GREAT! Nothings makes me all warm inside like a clean engine bay!! |
