1969 Chevelle (this one done almost to org match #). Had to use a buddy's garage. Did everything except assemble the engine (Chassis, body, paint, interior, glass)

After the above 69 I took my matching number chevelle (restored in 1990) and decided to go through it. I now have my own garage. Doing everything except the engine which was built by a engine builder. Some more pictures under Member's section: https://lateral-g.net/members/harrod/

Did everything but interior and engine machine work in a buddy of mines garage that his dad had been using as a wood shop. Here are a couple of pics.

Its kool to see people actually building their own stuff rather than writing checks. Im also building my trans am at home in my 2 car garage bothering my neighbors with the noise, i doing everything from mechanical to body and from electrical to metal fab. id build my own roll cage but it has to be approved to run it at the track so ill have someone build it :D
|
tried "writing cheques" and ended up with overpriced shoddy work.

garage built in a two car garage. Pulled the body off my self using a jack, jack stands and 2x4. I pulled a macgyver!!!! You sort of have to though when your the only one home and you want the body off the frame. I built the motor at the shop I used to work for, turned out great. Did the body work in a old body shop in the ghetto of oakland(SCARRY).
|
I did most of the work myself in my (small) garage without power.
Tranny rebuild and paint are done by pro's since I don't have the tools/space to do it myself. just a few more months...... http://www.pro-touring.nl/camaro/underhood1008.jpg |
great projects guys!!
|
Haha!! martin71rs, that garage is about the size i built my nova in too, when i moved to ontario i thought i was truly spoiled to get a 2-car garage, most guys this side of the pond just dont realise how lucky they are that their garages cover a bigger square footage than a lot of european houses!!! at a quarter of the cost too, a gallon of fuel in the uk works out to8.5 bucks!!! not too many big blocks for sure!
|
Built, not bought (except for the interior. And as you can see, I do not have a whole lot of room....

Mine's homebuilt including minor metalwork but I'll leave the paint to a pro. Building engines are my favourite part.
|
Everything but the bodywork and paint has been/will be done in our 24x30 shop. No lift, no frame table, just some jackstands and country ingenuity...

Mine too is home built.
the only thing will be the machine work on the engine but I will reassemble it. powdercoat the frame and body painting. I do get some help when I'm not sure on how to proceed like the welding on the frame and stuff but I try to do most of the work myself as much as possible. |
Just found this thread. Mine is mostly garage built except for metalwork and paint. I also hired a buddy of mine to wire the entire car and help me with final assembly and interior.

My garage is quickly headed that way. Already getting that look from Laurie. Bad part about it is I can be gone for weeks at a time for work. She will be more than a little upset if I allow that to happen for to long. :_paranoid Your car looks awesome! Hope the wife enjoys it with you. |

QUOTE=Rybar]Thanks Anthony, it was a fun time. The garage was scattered with Camaro parts and tools everywhere you looked. Let's just say the wife parked outside for a few months and wasn't too happy [/QUOTE]
Same here, 2 cars garage 28 by 25 and the wifes Mustang GT is parked out side in the snow...she's not happy about this but hey??? http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-.../P1010007a.JPG http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-.../P1010009a.JPG |

Since the photos were taken I have come a bit longer in the build.
Everything is test monted togeter. I will begin teardown tomorow. The painter will start on the car in mid Mars. While he has the car I will build the engine and rebuild the trany. I will also paint the subframe and a big pile of smal stuff. Wich color do you guys think is the best. Hugger orange with a twist, (some peart effect and metallic added). and ghost flames over the hood and front fenders. Or "Red cooper kind of orange" with pearl and metalic flake. Ghost flames but only in the stipes over the hood. Best regards Robert |
All garage here cept for paint...

All of mine are home built. Even the garage itself!

The other two I think I'll leave alone. |
I am on my 2nd garage build:

So far my Chevelle is all homebuilt with some help from friends, I think I'll source out interior and paint though.
|
Hi Andre ! Can you explain how you combined the C4 vette stuff with the Porsche brake setup ? I might look at something like that for my Porsche project where I'm using C5. Thanks !! Jim
|
Here's my latest garage build, not completely finished yet but almost there.
Being on the wrong side of the ocean, everything is home built. DIY rules big time here. http://i13.tinypic.com/6oq6at1.jpg http://i9.tinypic.com/6pi6tf6.jpg http://i28.tinypic.com/2mqs0ew.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/b7e5h2.jpg |

The Netherlands, where most people drive econoboxes, gas is over $8 a gallon and there are no shops or anything. I was born in the wrong country :D
|
Well im from Denmark where everybody drive econoboxes, gas is 7.5 dollars per gallon and the tax on automobiles are 180% (plus 25% sales tax)
so you and me both bro! |
Yup, we're pretty much in the same boat w/ the taxes and everything 9hurrah for socialist liberalists!) Good thing there's a couple of is still who know what real cars are. Wouldn't be caught dead driving a Prius or the like :D :wow: :captain:

Hey Jim, It was all done with the help of a friend who had access to a lathe and a mill. The calipers are six piston Brembos of a Porsche Cayenne (I think Audi Q8 and VW Toareg are the same), the calipers have mounting ears so we made a bracket to attach the calipers to the Corvette spindles, that was the easy part of the job. The hard parts were the rotors, they are of an Audi RS4, 360mm x 32mm. When I bought them I thought they were two piece due to me seing in the pics on ebay that the center was aluminum, the two parts were molded together....:( To make them fit we put the rotor in the lathe and took out the center leaving an aluminum ring, then we made a hub out of billet steel that was oversize, we froze the hub and heated the aluminum ring and pressed them together, then we bolted them together and safety wired them. If you decide to go with them brakes I'd get some other rotors as we probably spent 20 hours to make them fit, the brakets to make the calipers fit was around 2-3 hours. the nice thing is that it all fit (very tightly) into 18" BMW M3 rims. let me know if you want some pics |
Keep -Um coming damn nice cars !!!!!!!!!!!
