Lets just say its "rough"......there are alot of areas than need attention...... lots more final grinding and tweaking...... good start in alot of areas, but not what I was hoping for overall..... gonna have more filler than I wanted too.....

Did the shop not do as much as you expected or was a money issue.

Its more "not done as well" as it should be ..... like for example, there are alot of waves around the areas where maker lights/door handle/patch panels were welded in.... areas where panels were lap welded rather than butt welded....alot of welds than never got ground down..... that type of stuff....

Alot of "yes the job was done but it didnt seem like you gave a crap about the quality while you were doing it".....

I wouldnt mind fiinnish up the grinding etc as long as the quality was there to begin with.....

I guess money is always a factor..... I tried to find someone I could trust at a price I could afford.....it didnt work out as well as I had hoped...... a good start in alot of areas, but now I have to go back and mess with just about every spot.....

while i understand what your saying, you also get what you pay for, so if it was 15k worth of work for 5k, then there you go, but if you got 5k of work for 15k, then keep complaining. goodluck with the project please post updated pics

DRJDVM's '69 07-22-2008 09:40 AM

I'm more disppointed than anything........ I'm not here to bash the shop...theres not point in that..... I'm just disappointed on how it turned out..... I was promised and led to believe it would be better than this even for this price

Overall there was alot of work done for the price I paid...alot of hours....but there are alot more hours ahead to make these areas right......

I try to look at things like " I can spend 3 hours taking my time, doing it right or I can rush through it in an hour and then spend another 4 hours
fixing it"....so I'd rather pay the pro for the 3 hours and get it done right....but dont promise me you can do it right in an hour, and then not do it right.... I believed the promises and thats my fault....

So the $$ I saved is now somewhat offset by the hours of my time to "fix" and improve the previous work. Its all fixable and the car will be done right if it kills me......

You do get what you pay for (most of the time)....and places like Ironworks, Bruning, Rad Rides etc etc are probably worth every penny.... I just dont have that many pennies.....

I got what I paid for and I'm not looking for sympathy.... I can hear the "I told you so.....good work aint cheap" ringing in my head.... I'm just disappointed.......

First post and your defending the shop.

Please explain how an out of state customer is worse than a local customer.
And how the owner of the car and the guy paying the bill shouldn't have control of what is being done.

4OfaKind 07-22-2008 04:26 PM

First post and you choose to have us believe you know how much training someone has just because they decide to let someone else do something for them. He may have just not had the time. Don't assume he did not have the knowledge or the skills. Plus if someone says they are going to do something then they should do it at the price agreeded regardless of issues that must be dealt with. Otherwise agree on another price before hand or don't take the job at all.

Please read the whole post before you give your $.02. Then you have a better idea of the owner client/relationship that was involved.

The content matters only if it truly applies. This is not some general request for advice from a shop owner or client that felt they got burned and did not know what to do next. This is a specific deal between two long standing members on this board clearly played out from the first post and this guy comes in making assumptions; where if he read the whole post he we know there was no prior animosity, no misunderstandings, no underhanded dealings, no holding back or slow payments of funds. Everything he implied was nonexistant and unnecessary. We cut slack where it is due. Man enough to put in your $.02 in expect it thrown back if it wasn't worth the metal it was stamped on!

I could understand the above statements from mister 1st post if DRJDVM's '69 said he was hopping mad and he wasn't going to stand for it anymore. But he clearly said "he was disappointed, but there were no hard feelings, and he was just going to deal with the results and chalk it up to experience." ( I paraphrase) Sympathise and move on. If you have a personal experience you want to share, state it in general terms. Don't make direct accusations.

I've met Chris personally and he's a good guy. I've spoken with Ned several times also, and he's a good guy. I'm sorry to see that things didn't go as well as expected.

Well said Jody and I couldn't agree more!

mazspeed 07-22-2008 11:03 PM

Sorry to hear about that Ned.

The WidowMaker 07-23-2008 09:33 AM

well i cant go back and read the post since it "disappeared", but i again stick by "my" statement. the whole situation sucks and it did seem like he was kicking him a little while he was down, but who cares if it was his first post?

DRJDVM's '69 07-23-2008 09:41 AM

Did a post get deleted or am I missing something ??

I really wanted an "in state "shop close to home to directly keep up with the cars progress, but (a) I couldnt find many people that wanted the job period and (b) those that did where just out of my price range or where back logged for over a year...

I was very very specific with what I wanted and payments etc where never an issue. The delays and quality of work was not as a result of me doing soemthing

Anyway...... as I stated... I got alot of work done...alot of hours involved for what I paid....the end result just wasnt what I was promised or hoped for....

I'm not hear to bash the shop....that wont get me anywhere. I'm just gonna have to deal with the situation and move forward...

I keep telling myself..... its only a car and its only metal....metal can be fixed....

Not sure how to explain it without going in to details, but that post was removed on request from that side of the debate. They didn't want fuel thrown on the fire.

The WidowMaker 07-23-2008 10:34 AM

xcyz- i totally understand

DRJDVM's '69 - i have to admit youre taking this all pretty well. i hope all turns out well in the end.

96z28ss 10-12-2008 07:37 AM

any updates on this project?

DRJDVM's '69 10-13-2008 12:18 PM

Not really much...

Been spending alot of time trying to salvage what Race Rodz did..... lots of finnish work....trying to decide what needs to be junked and re-done vs what can be fixed...

Finnished the SFC's, got the torque boxes welded in, finnished the trans tunnel (Chris lap welded it all in and left huge seams everywhere, so I had to finnsh weld it and fix what I could). Narrowed the rear seat to fit between the tubs......started witht the AC mock up....

Rodger from Ironworks came by and looked at it a couple of weeks ago..... I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with TJ and Tim from Bruning today..nice guys.... so I'm trying to decide what to do at this point....

So....we'll see

Moving beyond the drama of the past, could we get an updated picture of the project? It was one of the cars I logged in to see how it was doing once upon a time.

Might help get everything back on track... :lateral:

updates?

Jr 02-28-2010 08:48 PM

Ned,
How about starting a new thread of where the build is. Lord knows the car is NOT at race rod.

DRJDVM's '69 02-28-2010 11:21 PM

Oh believe me, I did start another thread...... this thread is dead to me.... just like Race Rodz ")

https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=17432

As for updates.....I got 2 of my wheels... the rears are still being made...there's an issue with the perimeter bolts being on back order...

I got all my Air Ride stuff mounted up in the trunk and quite a few smaller things.... I'll try and post some pix later this week....
