It must be fun to get a car like that and make it even more perfect.

You will soon go for a testdrive I am sure.

Yes, it is an advantage to buy a car that Mark Stielow originally built. You know the engineering is all sorted out, and quality is top notch. Then you can put your personal touches to it.

yes, 3" stainless. I have my fast days and others that nothing gets done even though I'm working on it all day. Need a few more fast days to get this done on time.

Looks awesome Jody. Glad to see it coming together! Thanks for the exhaust pics. Like the brackets that were made. Very simple - yet stylish.

Jody the car is great but what's really making me insanely jealous is that hoist you have in your garage. I would KILL to have one of those at my disposal.

I totally understand that. I would not want to go back to not having a lift, it just makes everything so much easier when working on cars.

Jody what's your ceiling height of the shop? If I remember correctly I have 11.5'. I'm thinking that would be enough for my camaro...and I'm a little more height challenged than yourself! Man I want a lift!

CAR LOOKS GREAT !

Good point Jason, have you noticed any differences between brands ?

My smaller shop is that height, and some day may put a second lift in there. The bigger shop has almost 13' ceiling height, so it's a non-issue. I think 11.5' is enough, especially if you aren't 6'5" tall........... :D

Thanks for the info Jody! If nothing else I could use it for car storage in the off months...probably not a bad idea with a 3 year old running around! :_paranoid

camcojb 03-12-2008 03:53 PM

ok, windows are in, many thanks to Frank and Lisa at GP Superstore for the great pricing and service.

http://www.camcojb.com/temp/malitude%20307.jpg

I order a classic update wiring harness from American Autowire (again through Frank!) which will be here Friday. It will be much easier to start from scratch than try to splice all my new systems into the other harness that's currently in the car. So in the mean time, I mounted my BigStuff 3 ecu in the glove box along with the trans controller (switching trans controllers in a couple weeks, but I'll fill you in on that when it happens).

http://www.camcojb.com/temp/malitude%20298.jpg

I ran the BS3 harness through the firewall and have cut to length and terminated all the sensors. Am in the process now of trying to hide the wiring as much as is reasonably possible for a clean look.

http://www.camcojb.com/temp/malitude%20309.jpg

I also ditched the dual Bosch fuel pumps. I love the idea of them, running one all the time with the second coming on with boost, but there's just no way to neatly plumb them in the limited room under the car. No matter how I tried there were too many loops, etc. in the system to fit in the required width I had to work with. So I had a new Aeromotive pump, regulator, and pump controller in my shop, and decided to go this way. I regulate the fuel at the back of the car to keep the hot fuel from being bypassed to the tank. Running the fuel through the rails before being bypassed to the tank has caused many issues on long drives like Power Tour, and being that this car is going this year I do not want any issues. And their pump controller slows the pump down during idle and cruise areas, so that further keeps the fuel temps down, and increases the pump life.

Jody,

The car looks awesome!!! The wrap you used around the fuel supply line on the outboard side of the regulator, is it a heat shield and who's is it? Almost looks like huge shrink tubing in the pic, if its heat resistant I could use some, my fuel line runs kind of close to the tail pipe as well. Amazing car- Rich

Looks great Jody. Do you think you'll be done in time? It looks like it's already pretty close.

It's Earls, flame guard is what they call it. Slides over the hose, and pretty much burn-proof.

Will you run a FP gauge on the fuel rail or in the the dash? Or just install a temp one for initial start up?

re: regulator at the tank instead of at the motor.

I've been running the regulator at the tank for several years. Not my idea, actually GM has been doing it for years on cars like the Vette.

The main reason(s) I like it is because it simplifies the fuel lines, only one to run up into the engine compartment. Secondly, it stops the heated fuel from the engine compartment and rails from going back to the tank. Not an issue in around-town driving, but you get out on the road for 200-300 miles and you would be amazed how hot the fuel in the tank gets. The gas is very hot coming back and the fuel level in the tank is dropping, making it even worse. This then causes the pump to cavitate, and eventually you're stuck on the side of the road waiting for stuff to cool off. Ask me how I know............ ;)

Power Tour 05 saw many cars have this issue.

Marty, I'm doing the same with my fuel system. I can't tell you how many times I discussed it with Jody. lol

I have a fuel pressure gauge in my dash. It will likely have the sender up in the "Y" from the main fuel feed line to the two fuel rails.

I'm thinking I should do this too! Everything sounds like it will work better and half the plumbing to the engine bay would be nice! I have a gauge in my dash as well. I like the idea of using a Y and feeding the rails seperate. Yep I like this a lot!

We set my truck up to go both way's. After reading all of the discussions. I decided that we had to do it. But Dave ( Comp Fab ) said let's at least plan for a regulator up front just in case.

But I am sold on this way.

ps - does anyone have the link to the thread

that's awesome Steve. Here's another example of a great vendor (Twist Machine) helping out beyond what was needed. I have a TCI trans computer in the car, and wanted a new harness for it as I'm re-wiring the car. TCI didn't have any, they've gone to a new controller and harness. Since I'm running one of Steve's paddle shifters I decided to call him to see if he could locate one. Steve offered me his Powertrain Control (PCS) unit at a price I couldn't refuse, and I ordered a new harness from them. The PCS unit has some unique tuning features, and you all know how much I like that!

Thanks again Steve, much appreciated.

Jody,

Can you post a link to this fuel system thread for a goober like me ??
Sounds like a cool way to set things up. I'm also assuming your running a vaccum line from the motor back to the regulator or is there some other way to do that ??

Thanks for any input on this, I appreciate it :hail:

We have been doing this for years and have had no problems it seems to correct most of them. The car is coming along great and will be a blast to drive with that set up.
