And you guys are correct in that it was not the shifter lugs as it turns out my Hurst shifter was a little loose causing it to bind :lolhit: . I mounted my Kirkey seat with some Wedge engineering brackets I had. They are are not made for the seat but will for now and much safer until I can weld in the new mounts. I added some more gas and took for a quick spin. It seems to shift fine. I have a ton of work ahead but man driving the thing for a few minutes felt awesome :woot: I just barely tapped the pedal and the thing fish-tailed at roll. I guess I was surprised as I did not expect that a stock LS3 would feel so good. Bare in mind this thing has been a dead horse for many years so it has been a while since I have driven anything with that kind of power. I need to get exhaust and a few things now so I will likely have no more test drives till then. But I can't wait. |
Your car sounds nice. Keep it up.
|
Hey Tom - she looks great in the wind and sounds great too! Congrats on getting her movin'...
|
Thanks Tom, I'll check those out!,
car looks good, seems to be missing some body panels, the kids comment are classic! |
Thanks Guys.
Steve you are correct I am missing a few pieces  I actually have all the sheet metal. I just needed some motivation and now have found some. I did not want to spend another dime till I drove it. |
Your nova is looking killer!
|
Very nice Tom.
Sounds nice and mean.  |
Congrat's Tom.I am sorry,Some how I have missed this thread.Wow!! awesome job.My very first car was a 69 chevelle. I love those thing's and would really like to find another some day.I am going to make sure I keep up on this build.  Scott

I not 100% sure but I think not only is it leaking there but it have another leak in the seam. I am hoping that it is flinging oil from the lines if it is not well I don't know. Changing the pan means pulling the engine which will suck. I should have the lines on Monday so we will see. I have the fenders, hood and trunk on but need to get them aligned better and all in one color primer. It kinda a spotted mut http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...-54-47_254.jpg |
Its looking good. I may be crazy but I like that primer color.
|
Hmmmm....x2 on the primer. Weird, but I like it too for some reason.
Nice build btw. |
X3 on the primer...it just looks angry!
And btw, did you touch the suspension recently? If not then it has settled some and the rears look a lot better! Awesome car man and congrats on driving it!!!!   |
I like the color of the primer too, and you know I'm a fan of the wheels!! looks good,
|
^^^^^^^^^^ what he said! LOL
The shadows and the primer color really give it a tasty look. Sorry 'bout the leaking fittings.... Heres's trick that I use... I sneak up on the tightening -- and loosen it... and tighten a little more... loosen and tighten some more. Makes the two surfaces bed into each other. That -- and there are "flare savers" -- copper "washers" you can get for 37* AN fittings. Put one between them and bingo problem solved. Here's a link: http://www.purechoicemotorsports.com...rod/prd187.htm |
Thanks guy's for the nice words. I had the primer tinted wirth a drab olive color trying to look like the F-bomb which was actually paint. It did not come out the same but still looked better than gray.

I changed my remote oil lines to XRP fittings and hose and they cured the oil line leaking. Still have a little leak somewhere but it is small. I got the front end aligned Today. Seat belts are next but I jumped on the I-10 freeway for a run through the gears on the way home. It was fun but I can't help feel a little nervous over every little noise :_paranoid . I think it stems from you have turned a wrench on every bolt on this car and wondered how many or what I missed;) The car seems real rowdy right now because of the lack of side/rear windows, carpet, door panels etc.
The valve train seems very noisy while driving but again it is hard to tell right now. Power seems to be crisp and good although it has a slight miss so I know I will need to get a tune. I am so glad I bypassed the paint part for now because the driving/running part has refueled this on & off again project for me. I still look forward to getting done with paint and all but for now I will continue to work out all the kinks. I hope to get the spotted mutt in one solid primer color in the next few weeks. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...chevelle45.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...chevelle46.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...chevelle47.jpg |
Tom,Super cool.I think every car builder get's those feeling's. Just stay at it. Scott
|
If you have valvetrain noise that exceeds your windowless ride.... you'd better run that rack again - 'cause that's just not right IMHO.
Love the looks of this car - even in it's coat of many colors! LOL |
Hey man,
Looking real good...I am doing the same thing as you. I am going to get all the underpinnings nailed down first then get her painted. I will get her all in a single coat of primer but for now that will be as far as she goes. I want to drive my toy this summer...period. You are great motivation man! Dave |
That drive must have felt great.
|
Great progress Tom.
|
great job! its going to be hard to paint it once its all in one shade of the green. its going to look too good to paint.
|
Thanks guy's
|
Looking great Tom!
|
Thats a nice looking car, like the stance. Stay at it.

I had been trying to get my car to my brother's shop but kept getting put off due to the booth always full etc :( . So I went and bought a Harbor freight HLVP spray gun for $39.00 and sprayed it myself in my garage. I spent a lot time covering things up the garage as overspray sucks. Note for other newbie DYI sprayers, wetting the floor down prior not only keeps dust down but also helps from overspray sticking to the floor.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...-03-26_654.jpg It turned okay, a few light spots. The lighting made it hard to see. I needed a little bigger compressor but this will work for now. I plan to have a pro paint maybe this winter. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...-00-08_265.jpg I really need some of the World Famous DFRESH gap spray from Ironworks:D Maybe they will hook me up....... |
Here is some more pictures from outside Today

I messed around with some tape making Gran Sport stripes. I know they maybe a little played out but I kind of like them. My wife kinda laughed at me like I some 40 year old ricky racer  I have most of the quirks fixed now need to do some more clean up. I don't trust my welding to do the seat bracket harness so hopefully the guy built my cage to do it next week. I really want those in before I venture to far from home. Here is the interior shot...need to do just about everything in there. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/IMG_3531.jpg Here is the engine. I plan to redo the CAI soon. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/IMG_3535.jpg |
