Thanks for the pictures and info. I'm running 19s on the rear of mine. Probably going stick with stock opening because the budget isn't going to allow it. Also going to follow your 67 nova thread...looks like it's going to be a good one. Doug |
Looking for any ideas for gauges, instrumentation, and dash. Not sure which way I want to go. Kind of want to keep it utilitarian. On the other hand I wonder what it would look like with a ZO6 gauge pod grafted into a modified metal dash??

Z06 gauge cluster
I'm doing that,gonna look cool,wanna see more pics of your ride,keep posting:thumbsup:

I was considering a ZO6 dash but have decided against it. As it stands now we are going to fab a whole new dash. Probably use some kind of autometer gauges. Doug |

What sort of dash shape are you thinking of going with? Ironworks did one in an Impala(?) that looks killer. Check out their site. It'll give you some good ideas. John |

I can't believe the great drivability right out of the box with the LS7. We used the Speartech wiring harness and computer and haven't even tuned it and it runs like a raped ape. If your in the neighborhood come by for a ride. Doug |

Just checked out the Impala on Rodgers site and the dash looks very cool. I think we are going to make ours a little taller and deeper than stock. I may be having Jason Rushforth design something. He actually did the original renderings way back when.

very nice build keep up the great work. still one of my favorite body styles of all time.

Have you had a chance to run the car around any corners? How did it handle? John |

Sadly Wayne Due really screwed up the frame! We had to redo the front a-arms because the way he set it up it didn't allow for proper geometry. The back....where do I start? We got the alignment as close as possible with a plumb bob, strings and levels. Our next problem is how to get it on an alignment rack. We are finding out the alignment shop needs to be able to attach their laser jig onto the wheels in order to do a four wheel alignment. They are saying they can't do this because the wheels are tucked up inside. Right now it looks like the back adjustments are maxxed out. So now we are thinking if we have to do some more adjusting we may have to change the pickup points on the suspension to get it aligned properly. Another issue that really upsets me is the way Wayne designed the rear end. There is no way to run exhaust out through the back. You don't know how many times I have thought about ripping out all the rear and doing a straight axles and 3 or 4 link:willy: Also we probably need to change the spring rates the ones Wayne provided were all wrong. After all the money I spent with him I felt I was definitely shortchanged. To add insult to injury he is no where to be found to confront him with these issues:( Sorry for the rant:mad: Doug |
I have a guy up here that does everything the old way. he used camber caster gauges and the tape measure and about 40 years experience. He aligned the rear on my truck with the 22's tucking lug.
Call me if you need the number. And yes the Custom stuff done by Wayne Due is absolute Junk. Just ask Tyler about his 50/50 car. |

I guess that's why Wayne dissappeared:_paranoid P.S. Did I see somewhere you where modding a yamaha Rhino? I have a stock teryx with long travel Doug |
Yeah I'm gathering parts to build an R1 powered Rhino. I bought a bare chassis and plan to short course race it with my buddy who we built this Teryx for last year right before SEMA.

We lowered the roof 9" and widened and lowered the seats like 3" on each side. Every since I have been spun out on building one. |

alignment
Well we found a local shop that said they could do the four wheel alignment. Unfortunately the rear would not align. Actually the right rear was close but the left rear was out a degree and a half. To correct this the alignment shop says we need to move the upper a-arm mounts outward by about 5/8 of an inch. Obviously when Wayne Due built the frame it was wrong. What concerns me is why is one side off and not the other? If everything is symmetrical why does only the left side have to be moved?:_paranoid
I'm seriously thinking of puling the whole independent rear out and going with a straight axle. Not sure what I should do. Next week we are going to pull the gas tank and all the suspension and try to determine what is wrong. Hopefully the frame is square and centered in the car if not than we have a big problem:( Any one have any suggestions. It's C5 upper and lower control arms with a cobra R rear end. We had to have totally custom half shafts made as well. So I already have a lot invested. Doug |
Hey Doug,
Show some updates.:) |

I would like to bring this thread back from the dead. The car has taken a long time due to my construction business being slow for me and a long drawn out divorce, therefore there was a shortage of money. It is drivable, but still needs a lot of work. I'm going to post a few pics of it's current condition and some renderings of a possible dash and console.
I still have many questions on how I'm going to proceed, because the advances in these cars go so fast due to the fact I've taken so long to build the car. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. DougAttachment 44317 Attachment 44319 Attachment 44318 Attachment 44320 |
Not sure on how to advance the styling of this car, but the dash looks good to me. Subtle and classy. That dash and console design, in my opinion, looks like it can withstand the test of time. It's no too flashy where it would look dated in a year or two. I like it. Also, glad to see you still have the car thru a divorce. I have some friends who got divorced and the spouse neither wanted the car nor knew what to do with it. They just didn't want them to have it and knew it would hurt them to take it.

I too hope you continue to work on the car. Use whatever motivation you can to bring this to completion.
I love your idea about extending the lower dash and angling it back. That would definitely help with hiding the bottom of a Gen IV evaporator and the A/C tubing. And it wouldn't look "tacked on". Carry on, lad. |
