Quick update
Started my lower link brackets, 3 position adjustable http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1769.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1763.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1760.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1762.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1759.jpg |
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1765.jpg
Both bars at 0* http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1767.jpg And roughly where the bags will sit http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1771.jpg These are NOT the bags I'm using, I'm going to run the new f9200s instead, and the upper link bracket will probably be part of the bag bracket. |
Wanted to add a gusset for the upper link mounts

once again this is impressive, Its not everyday you see a truck like this.
There was a guy about 4 years ago that did the same thing with a 2003 or 2004 extended cab short bed. He built a tube chassis for it and it layed rocker with out much of body drop. I was impressed and he was I think 23 or 24 years old. It was the stock dark metallic blue that came on 05 silverado's. |
thanks man, I'm interested in seeing that truck, haven't seen it. I was going to lay rocker, but I decided to keep it .75" away just to keep my rockers safe.

CAB IS ON!!!!
So I finally got my new rear bags, f9100s and at $200 a pc I was skeptical, till they showed up and I love them. On the right is a f9000, (blue tape protecting the billet) http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1846.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1847.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1848.jpg They get 9.75" of travel, compared to 6.5" ( I think on the f9000) More hand made brackets http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1834.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1835.jpg |
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1837.jpg
Rear bag brackets complete http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1837.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1844.jpg Bag in http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1849.jpg Rear end being welded up http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1853.jpg |
The edges arent smooth because there will be a shock mount in front of that shortly
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1855.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1857.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1888.jpg Stock way bar (shape) can be used, plan to run a muscle bar from ART http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1863.jpg Now before I flipped the frame I thought about any weak point and this one stood out to me, where I pie cut it, so I added a gusset, couldn't hurt http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1870.jpg |
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1875.jpg
Stripped http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1878.jpg Flipped http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1889.jpg Boxed in the LCA mounts http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1890.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1891.jpg |
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1892.jpg
Welded up and smoothed the bottom side, Plan to DA it before Powder coat http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1898.jpg and the frame heads home... Back in the garage, (before I organized my tools and such for more room) http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1902.jpg Money shot 3/4" from rocker, right where I want it http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1904.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1908.jpg |

Very nice. I might have missed where this was discussed, but did you invert the 4-bars for clearance w/the d.shaft (they're usually parallel on the bottom & angled @ the top)? What type welder are you utilizing?
|
the bars are adjustable so and its not at ride height in the pics
lincoln 235 powermig |
I have an airbag question... (those new bags look incredible btw)
Why do most folks run the sleeved type on the rear and the bellows type up front? Why not run bellows all around? |
They are freakin' awesome haha.
Bellow bags are designed to be used on a ratio setup, like the control arms will work the bag 2:1 or 1.5:1. Some guys will use bellows out back, but you typically mount them on a cantilever arm or even the 4 link bar itself, using the bag again in a ratio setup. Sleeves are designed for a 1:1 ration, and tend to ride better and have more control on ride feel with them. I've seen guys run bellows 1:1 but they don't ride great, and loose lift. |
looks fantastic! Feels great to have the cab back on doesn't it? Now, how is the engine and transmission just balancing on the oil pan? Is the weight really that even or did you photochop the pics?

Looking great GMRACER!
You're making some real gains there. Amazing build bud. Keep up the great work!!  |

"If" I ever get a chance, I should stop by and check it out.
It's nice to see the cab sitting on the frame as well. |
You should, whenever you want (weekends)

its called a satchel link.. the reason to do this instead of the GM-usual k link konfiguration is that it fixes the rollcenter in relation to teh center of gravity as the suspension moves thru its travel.. and at a lower point than the k-link. , the rollcenter of both the satchell and k link is at the intersection of the angled bars.. so with the k link it moves up and down more than the body does in short its better for handling, but more difficult to package as it needs a sturdy crossmember below driveshaft level... |
Well I found a slight flex out back wanted to add another triangulated brace
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/Sch02224.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/Sch02225.jpg Brand new, perfect condition bed... http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/Sch02227.jpg Now all cut and section bed floor raised 5.5" http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022210.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022211.jpg I didn't want to go more then 5.5" So to get the last >1" I'll section the bed crossmembers over the frame. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022212.jpg Cut the firewall and trans tunnel out to accommodate the motor, (body dropped 2", motor raised 1" and moved back 1.5" http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022215.jpg Motor view, looks pretty far back without any accessories on it http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022217.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022218.jpg Got my hubs from Moser Friday, should have my axles this coming Friday 5x5 lug pattern, 1/2"x120 screw in studs http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../Sch022225.jpg |

First of all big thanks to Marty, owner of the incredible http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/ Big help in letting me use his wheel tool. Made it so easy to measure and check clearances.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../030109005.jpg I did however notice my wheel wasnt perfectly centered in the wheel well, and that pisses me off, however I'll be able to adjust it once I get the bed permanently mounted I'll figure out just how much I'm off. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../030109004.jpg Cut out for the tubs, still looking for a spare set of factory tubs if anyone has any laying around. Basically I want to mimic the factory just 6" wider. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../030109006.jpg One thing I hate is when people run big wheels, or such and the tires and wheel are soo tucked in leaving a huge gap between the bedside and tire, even though sometimes it requires that to fit way up top. I kept it tight, here you can kind of see the tire just touches that lip, well I plan to roll that edge so the wheel will be pretty close to the actual bedside. Laid out I still have a fingers gap up top against the bedside http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../030109007.jpg Just a quick undershot http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../030109010.jpg |

This is set at ride height

Hey the build is looking insane just to tell you. But i was wondering if you know where i can get that tool for lining up your rear tire in the fenderwell off the differential? Thank man, i appreciate it. Good luck with the rest of the build, lookin forward to see it hit the road. :woot:
