I think I would have crushed it or hired someone to take it out in the desert for target practice judging by the photos. That roll bar is etrocious not to mention poor design. You need a loop bar behind the seat for your long ass legs. That is a crazy project...third time is definitely the charm.

Rybar 11-24-2008 02:56 PM

So will it be done in 2009 some time? 10 years beats my 7

Looks like she's in good hands now bud

Even if it was just tacks I would have never accepted the notching to begin with (wait what notching!!!) Tyler, at least you got to see there work prior to the welds hiding it all.
Good to hear you blew off the dust and put it in good hands.

Actually the picture is not of Rodger Lee and the car isn't at Ironworks!

This is the bastard that stole Tylers car!

Tyler, I know this build has been anything but fun....most of the time, so I'm VERY happy to see it in good hands and being done right this time!

One of the best things is now we can ask you how the project is going...without you reaching for the Pepto-Bismol!! :captain:

rich-allen 11-25-2008 06:13 AM

I know it feels good to see progress on your project.

It sucks when you only have time for other peoples dreams egh?

I like those wheels too.

Whoa there brother. This was not a numbers matching car. Big block RS/SS car sure; but no original drive train. Besides I don't plan on selling it; I'll cut it up as many times as I want to. Don't you have 70 examples of numbers matching Camaros in your garage?

Tyler

tones2SS 11-25-2008 04:15 PM

The HRE's look good with the car.

Tyler, i am really happy that your project is finally moving forward! I wish i could say the same for mine...

Keep the updates coming!

Wow what a turn around glad to see 50/50 back on track. Congrats Tyler

Flash68 11-25-2008 07:00 PM

Tyler, maybe I missed it, but what exactly does "50/50" signify?

Can't see Wayne doing tube joints like that (unless maybe his intent was to kill Tyler) Did you guys separate on good terms LOL

Tyler didn't you stuff that wheelbarrow into the firewall? I remember thinking that was a neat idea...

At the time I thought of it 50/50 was to mean the car was 1/2 Camaro and 1/2 Corvette with a 50/50 weight distribution.

Not me. Wayne did all sheetmetal cage, and frame work. That is indeed a widened wheel barrow as a firewall cover. You can even see the two bolt holes where the handles used to attach to it.

ironworks 11-25-2008 10:56 PM

Hay Tyler if you lucky we might have some pics for ya that will really give you something to be thankful for. We merged the shop car 63 chassis with your suspension on the table today and will slide the jig under the car tommorrow. Then look out it will go really fast from they with those 6 sticks of 4130 we got today.

XcYZ 11-26-2008 05:27 AM

There's no way that cage is an out the door, finished product from Wayne. No way. Something is fishy here. It looks to me like a 'proof of concept' excersize or something quickly put together to keep the body held together when the floor was cut out or something tacked in so the car could be transported.

Are you being honest with us, Tyler? You already made up a story at the start of this thread, is this just more of the same?

Tyler

Funny how that color takes so much abuse. I had a 69 Z28 that was rally green with white stripes. I've liked that color combo ever since I saw it on a Z28 back when they were new. I did a frame off on it and people would always ask me why I painted it green.

"I know, I'm just teasing you. Is it Rallye Green?"

I don't have the Rally Green L89 anymore. It is the 67 Pace car but technically it is kinda #'s matching because it has the drivetrain that was installed at GM engineering. Not quite assembly line but close.

Scott Trust me this was a completed product, All of the unwelded sections were in area that were inaccesible. The big gap was on the front roll cage down bars. When we started on this project Tyler and I had no idea it would get to this point. From our experience of fixing other peoples crap it seems like these guy were manufacturing guys, not one off fabricators. There were many more issues that were not right that go with the poor roll cage design. The wheel base was off by about .375 of an inch, it is really noticible in a 67-68 due to the round fenderwell openings. Figuring out the wheelbase on this should be pretty easy 107 = Camaro, 104.5 = C5 vette, if I lengthen the torque tube 3.5" we should be on the dot, not 3.125. There was alot of craziness going on with the floor, being double paneled for no apprent reason. We had to cut the torque tube hoops out of the car to be able to remove the torque tube, there was no way to get it out to replace the clutch. When we cut the hoops out the frame srung about .5 of an inch. The lower suspnsion cradles were about .375 -.5 of an inch off from square. It got so bad I called Tyler and told him I had started tube chassis deal laying around, that I would put up to just stop the madness.

So hopefully later today you will see the results of just starting over.

68protouring454 11-26-2008 07:39 AM

sounds like a great project roger.
btw, the camaro wheelbase is 108.
can't wait to watch this project come to life

XcYZ 11-26-2008 07:50 AM

With your fabrication, Rodger, it's going to be badass! Looking forward to updates.

ironworks 11-26-2008 07:50 AM

I'm still on basic math. 2+3=5 or 104.5+3.5=108 yeah I don't have that many fingers and toes. I guess I could have had all the guys in my shop take there shoes off but it is cold the morning, like 45 degrees.

Thanks

68protouring454 11-26-2008 07:55 AM

man you cali girlys, 40 degrees, hell we got 6 inches of snow yesterday and rain, the day before is was 5 degrees when i woke up.
hell, i would love to be a cali girly for that weather
can't wait to follow this one

Well so far Erik has done all the fab, He does alot of our tube bending and rolling work. He did the rollcage in Rich's Camaro, and alot of work on Mick's wedge sectioned chevelle chassis.

I figured that would get you all fired up, thinking we should be wearing shorts or something. We have no seen snow in 8 years. If it gets down into the 20's NBC says it is a national disaster.

That guy must have a sixth sense about spring back. Anything I see him bend just lands perfectly!

I'm so happy to see this project on the right track. Tyler deserves it.

Seems like alot of long term projects are moving along or finished this year.

Scott's 69
Larry's 68
Anthony's 68
Ned's cuda
Now Tyler's 50-50

I am sure I am missing a few more too.

awr68 11-26-2008 02:25 PM

Yeah, you can say the build style has been around a few years when the long term projects are heading for the finish line!!

Teetoe_Jones 11-26-2008 05:01 PM

Ironworks is SLOW. They already have the rear suspension 80% done. They have had the car for 2 weeks.

Old T56 transaxle and rear frame.

New T56 transaxle and rear frame assembly.

More of the old config:

And the new:

More pics coming....

Old chassis again:

More new:

So the new chassis is wicked. We are thinking about doing the cantilever style coil over mounts in the front and rear. I'll keep you updated as I get pics to post.

Looking great Tyler!

I think that slick tube style frame they make is going to catch on.
