The media blaster decided to put a paint meter on car yesterday before he started blasting....just for kicks. Most of the car was around 40 mics. Lower quarters were around 220 mics!! Needless to say he was on his 3rd pass this afternoon and still going.

Rybar 09-16-2010 04:11 PM

Looks like you are on your way to a nice straight body and paint job. Got any pics of the dead mice?

g356gear 09-16-2010 09:22 PM

Thanks. On the way to media blast.

Back from media blast!! I am actually quite happy that the quarters are the real only trouble spots. Lots of old school brazing.

It amazes me that people did that bad of metal work back then and thought it was fine to just put 5 gallons of mud over it.. Should have just left the rust and mudded over that instead! Looks pretty damn nice other then those quarters.

GregWeld 09-22-2010 08:44 PM

Bronze and bondo don't play well with each other!

Back then I think it was probably the way to do it. Not the right way...but the most common way.

Nice progress!
I would go get your nice wheels and take them home! You wouldn't believe how many scratches they can get on them just from the grinding debris and such....and that's even if they try to protect them! I'm just sayin'....

I understand what you are saying, but I dont have any crap rims big enough to clear the 14" Wilwoods on the front. The 15" corvette rallys only cleared the rears by 1/4". I took a page from Mark Stielow's build book and did pick up a set of Corvette C4 17" spare tires today on Ebay for $26 each. I will get those in a week and swap out the front rims before it sees any body work.

It's a rare car (2034 built) and I don't want to take it to the point of no return. Everything I have done is reversible to this point. I did really look closely at a mini tub but thought better of it.

Yep...driver quarter next and then the body is ready for finishing. While that is being done, the repairs to the bottoms of the front fenders can happen.

Pretty decent with only one guy on the metal work. Once that is done, they will double team it on the body work. Only 4 weeks left on the timeline.
