Yes it is Weldon diff cooler pump mounted on the axle housing. I wanted it to be below the fluid level. They are a self priming pumps but I wanted to try it on the housing.

Dunk that fitting in there hanging off a piece of welding rod - swish it around and rinse it off in fresh water - and polish it right up.

If you make the solution too strong - it will fizz and boil and you better be quick on your dip! Also DO NOT PUT THIS CLOSE TO YOUR FACE either - the fumes are more than nasty! Make it too weak and it takes forever... after a couple of batches you'll get the hang of it.

EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA

You can use Easy-Off also

I stripped this fitting prior to welding it on my dry sump tank

I had added a few more items to the car and had Stenod do some work on the car.

Finished the exhaust, fuel lines and diff coolers line.

Can someone help me out? The lines on the passenger side are for the diff cooler, right? I assume that the line on the left will be the fuel line? Also, I assume that this will be a dead head fuel setup...like the corvette?

Lines on the pass side are 1/2" for diff cooler. I made them 1/2" due to the fact I'm going to the front of the car. The line on the left is a 3/8" fuel line. I put it on the driver’s side because the LS7 fuel feed is on that side of the engine. My first time making hardlines from scratch. It was fun if you have the right benders. I purchased Ridged benders off Ebay cheap. The 1/2" lines take some effort to bend.

I love the Ridgid stuff, they work great. Stainless can be tough to bend, gets pretty stiff in the 1/2" size. I learned on aluminum............ :unibrow:

Really Mark you are a pioneer in the car building game and an inspiration :hail:

Sorry if I missed it, but what are you using for a dif fluid pump? Also when you have a system like that how to you set the "full" level? fill it, then run the pump then fill it again? or fill it with the pump on?

Ridgid benders work great and using cheap aluminum for mock-up saves expensive mistakes with the stainless.

Any updates?

I have a question: When do you consider a diff cooler mandatory?

Matt[/QUOTE]

At the minimum you should run a line off the diff to an overflow tank higher than the diff for track use. This will allow the fluid to get hot and have a place to expand into then drain back. I started to run diff coolers after I saw hot the diffs temps got during track use. If you want to know for sure add a thermal couple to the diff fluid. If the fluid gets hot than 140 C ( 284 F) degrees with synthetic fluid you will need a cooler. If you are running standard gear lube the temperature is lower.

A diff cooler is a little over kill for most Pro-Touring cars. If you have over 500 HP and are going fast for long track sessions it is cheap insurance. If you are just auto-crossing I wouldn’t spend the money.

Mark:

Even if it has been said 1000 times, it will never be said enough:

"Thank you sooo much for taking the time to explain all the details and reasoning behind all of the trick differences that puts your builds in a class all of their own...And doing this using language that doesn't appear "aimed" at only the high end guys, but at the same time doesn't sound like you are explaining it to a third grader...."

Does that make sense?...

It's obvious that you love what you do and I know I'm not alone in saying that we all really enjoy reading your replies to our inquiries...

Forever a fan,.....

Rick

I hope to get it to paint soon and have it back from paint by Christmas. Paul VanNs and his son Joe are going to paint it, it should be nice. If all goes well I will have it back from paint by Christmas. I have two weeks off during the holidays to start assembling it. The goal is to have it at Autoramma in March and on the track by April.

It would be great to be at The Motorstate challange again. We had a blast last year. :lateral:

Neil B 10-05-2009 07:24 PM

Nice. Looks like they took some weight out of the center and the sides of the spokes. Are the wheels a new, lightweight version of the Profil 5S?

awr68 10-05-2009 07:31 PM

No cage in this one, Mark?

NovaBlue71 10-05-2009 07:47 PM

Looking great Mark, Love the wheels. What a difference putting Fikses on Pauls car made they are very high quaility wheels.

Paul and I are looking forward to getting started on your car.

You couldn't have picked a nicer family to paint your car. Plus there paint work is incredible. I love what Dad did on the earnhardt camaro.

Mark, I just went through this whole thread ..... it never ceases to amaze me as to how much I can learn about new ways to engineer, new equipment to add, and better ways to build these cars. I can't wait to see this car finished!!!

Your ABS system sounds very cutting edge.......I researched ABS for my 1973 Camaro build a couple years back and saw that this is not choice for the weekend mechanic !!! :D It sure would be nice to see someone develop and market this technology for guys like me.

PM sent on those platforms that the Nova sits on in the garage pic
