Thanks all. The stance is killer on this car. These Vettes are so low and wide that it makes them look even better when it is slammed.
Here ae a few more pics of the re-worked front end. We tossed all of the stock trim and grilles. complete new units were fabricated from aluminum to change the shape of the openings and give it a more modern, aggressive look. Center grille opening http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/66.jpg Here, the center opening has already been fabbed. The passenger side blank was hammered out as a solid piece. The center was blacked out to show where it will be trimmed away for the opening. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/67.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/68.jpg Starting to mock up center grille bar. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/69.jpg |
And here is the difference compared to stock.

Laser cut a new grille pattern for it as well.

I love all the aluminum, will it get polished, brushed, plated or all of the above?
|
I love the way it looks, how much for a replica :P
I can't wait to see it done:woot: :lateral: FTW! oh, and I love the way the intake looks coming out from the engine bay |

Thanks to everyone else for all of the compliments on the car and for following the build thread. We always say that these cars are built for that 1% of car people who can actually appreciate the work and what has been done to the car as far as style, design, and fabrication. So thanks again, and hope to see you all at Columbus. I will keep the pictures coming until then.

Here are a few underside shots of the car and details that most will not know about until you see the pictures.
This is behind the front wheels in the inner fender / cowl area. There was a lot of extra room to hide components like master cylinders, breathers, etc... Before the close out panels were made. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/91.jpg Close out panel with out access door. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/90.jpg Completed unit (The order is off. The picture above was taken later when the remote reservoirs and breather tube were installed into the panel) http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/89.jpg |
Aluminum belly pans built to close off the area from the rocker panel to the frame rail.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/87.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/88.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/86.jpg |
Wow..
|
Amazing build guys! It's going to be hard to compete with that car. How long did most of the build take?
|
Awesome work.
|
Great car and great details! This thing looks like a concept car! I can't wait to see the real thing in person in 2 weeks. That is exactly why I go to Columbus every year! Great job, great concept!
|
This car goes up there with the very best once finished. You guys are making amazing work with this project and as a vettenut I'm loving it!

Rear close out panel behind tire
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/94.jpg Front close out panel infront of tire. There is a lot going on here. The headlights are mounted infront of this panel. THe cut out section where the cardboard is houses a power steering cooler on one side and an oil cooler on the other side of the car. there is a perferated screen to match the front grille that goes in here when completed. There is also a radiator overflow tank built into the panel. It is the ribbed section with the two AN fittings. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/92.jpg Here is a close up. We made a tank out of aluminum to follow the shape of the inner fender panel and welded it all together for a clean look. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/93.jpg |
The convertible top was ditched and the car turned into a roadster so we could fit the 345/35R20 Michelin's in the back. You don't drive a convertible with the top up anyways!
The original lid for the convertible to fold into was eliminated. We fabbed 2 aluminum coves to go behind the driver and passenger's heads and give the car some more detail. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/80.jpg Then fabbed an aluminum arch that wraps into the cockpit surround molding and into the windshield trim. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/117.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/118.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/120.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/119.jpg |
Pop up fuel filler in the side of the arch.
Machined a trim ring to match the headlights and a few other parts still to come on the car. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/121.jpg Then sunk that into the aluminum arch. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/122.jpg Push and twist to remove the center cap http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/123.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/124.jpg |

My bad... it is a 335/30R20. those are 28" tall. We are running a 345/30R19 on our 70 Chevelle that is 27.2" tall

Are you kidding me, I can't get over this build. I lloking forward to seeing in the flesh, two more weeks and counting.
By the looks of it, a little more and you guys would have made the entire car from aluminum. Thanks again for all the primarily shots. |
Incredible craftsmanship on this Vette. From what i've seen of the rest of the SMOY contenders, This is an easy winner(IMHO). Awesome work!:hail:

Complete aluminum dash and center console fabbed for the car.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/100.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/101.jpg Machined aluminum knobs for dash to match headlight and gas cap trim ring design. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/102.jpg Completed knobs shown in a scrap peice of sheet metal for mock up. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/103.jpg |
Knobs recessed into dash with trim bezels.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/104.jpg Center console starting to take shape. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/107.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/108.jpg Ribbed "belly pan" under the dash to finish it off. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/109.jpg |
A few more pictures of the dash in various stages of completion. (no particular order)
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/110.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/111.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/112.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/113.jpg |
Fabbed an aluminum slotted screen for the center section of the dash. A speaker will go behind this when completed.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/114.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/115.jpg |
I just went through this whole build up and pooped my pants. Simply......amazing.
