brut4s 04-08-2010 08:35 PM

What are you going to run? I have heard good things about Pypes or are you going custom?

cmraman 04-12-2010 07:20 PM

Olds 461...

As you see from the video the engine is in. It's running well and very strong. I'm looking forward to my first outing with the new drivetrain. The build up story can be found in June issue of PHR. In the meantime, here it is...

Diggin' the engine stand lol them T-shaped things are dangerous.

haha asside from that, like I posted on facebook, Im glad you kept it Olds powered... Torker intake, Edelbrock heads, "Mondello" on the pan, should be a nice package...Holley 750 or 800?

The car itself is looking great too!

brut4s 04-27-2010 03:53 PM

Not yet but I hope someone grabs some this weekend at the Ultimate Street Car Faceoff.

brut4s 04-28-2010 01:41 PM

Just curious did you ever think about EFI? Just to be different and maybe better drivability.

Driveability is good now. Very docile around town but it is a monster when you open the secondaries. I did consider it. Maybe down the line.

As for your earlier question, the exhaust story is to come.

OLDFLM 04-29-2010 05:25 AM

Purists be damned and all... but I have to say that I'm glad you kept it an Olds!! I went thru the same deal with the LSx vs Poncho mill in my car... GREAT project Rob!!! And the only reason I'm still getting PHR!

brut4s 06-03-2010 08:30 AM

Any video on the track yet?

I know that Ridetech put a GoPro on my car during autocross as well as Larry Callahan. I don't have one yet. If anyone caught me, please feel free to post. Maybe I can get something in a couple weeks. I'm taking it to Motorstate Challenge

cmraman 06-04-2010 08:26 PM

Photo from the Autocross at Street Car Faceoff at Elkhart Lake this past May. If you haven't gone and participated in one of these events, your missing out. I went to cover it and test out the Olds. It was a great time and fun experience. Here is a pic of Project Olds on the autocross. Thanks to Henry D for capturing this shot...

Here is the new update....

Sorry for the delay in updates... Been a really busy end of summer and fall. The car is great and is tucked away for the winter. Some changes are taking place, but I wanted to update on some of the things we have done so far...

Thanks to Holley for the help with the the exhaust system and to the Roadster Shop for the installation. We got it to fit high and tight. They did an awesome job. Thanks Guys!

Right after the engine and trans was installed by Performance Restorations... I drove it open headers to the Roadster Shop. That thing sounded badass. Now I want cutouts.. LOL. Here is the clean canvas...

Cutting pipe, I love the sparks shots... LOL.

The front section complete, ready for finish welding...

The Hooker Aerochambers that we used. Very nice sounding mufflers...

After all the routing and welding was finished, took the set up to the paint booth and shot it with ratttle can Ceramic black paint...

Did you change the exhaust recently or is this from last spring? Curious how the paint on the exhust would hold up.

No. this has been on since spring and so far it's holding up well. I want to have it properly ceramic coated maybe this winter.

revmopar 11-28-2010 05:15 PM

The exhaust looks sweet, can anyone tell me where I can get the red snap grommets the exhaust is hung with? thanks

I wish I knew. I asked the same question. Call Phil at the Roadster Shop. He may know or ask him if he'll sell you some.

z28camaro69 11-28-2010 06:35 PM

Summit Racing sells them with their exhaust kits.

Van B 11-28-2010 06:47 PM

Stainless works also sells blue ones. Probably available at Summit and Jegs.

Olds is getting some updates...

Project Olds is getting some updates over the winter. With the help of Brent Jarvis and the guys at Performance Restorations, we pulled the motor and sent it back to School of Automotive Machinists in Houston,TX. They wanted to check things over and make a couple of changes. I will update those later. But I was lurking on some of my Olds forums and found these babies for sale...

New still in the original box. I will have to knock out the plug for a breather, but they will look Bitchin'!

moparnate 02-20-2011 07:52 AM

Motor has been updated. It's back in the car, and coming back home tomorrow. Finally, LOL. Oiling issues seemed to be better, but time will tell but so far it's doing great and is much more responsive. Hope to post more pics soon.
