Been there brother. I can say from your story that I truely "get" the name. Perfect for where you were at and where a good number of us have been (still are?). Looking forward to seeing the car at RTTC.

They had to use all kinds of duct tape, plastic bags, etc. to make it all work. I felt the pain and could identify--LOL. So, that's how it came to be. Seems like the car fights me with just about every bolt on.

Lookin good Doug.. I guess since you accomplished quite a bit this weekend you are hereby forgiven for not returning my call. :_paranoid :D

Very nice Doug. Or should I say, Mr Renner?:D Should be nice on the highway. Have fun in Apollo.
Is your center console from a late 4th gen Camaro/Trans Am?

Looking good my man! I like the name! If you name a car it should truely mean something! Yours most certainly does! There were many late nights I wanted to name mine 'throw in the towel! The scary thing is I have a lot of those nights ahead of me still!

All of these mods are for the following street car shown below;

Sorry for the confusion---both cars share the same garage and the Green 69 drag radial car got in the pics based on proximity (aka lack of space).

The PT 69 is awesome, but definitely would love to see some pictures of the Drag 69 and the get specifications.

Dub,

Did you really think a gen-U-ine, made in the U.S. of A. 1969 Camaro would accept those wheels without fighting back any way it could... against your diabolical plan?

Yeah, you know that mission was called the "Successful Failure"----I laugh everytime I think about it---that's what I would call all my efforts towards the cars. Even if you succeed in this deal, it's still just a car in the end and you can't take it with you--but that won't stop me from failing successfully over and over on it. See you in Feb!

The console is out of a 2004 Trans Am. Got the complete setup minus the E-Brake handle and assembly on Ebay for $50.00. (Tony ended up sending me an ebrake setup for this console for free that he wasn't going to use--thanks again Tony!) It fit in the car with no mods to it. I love the thing since it has the arm rest, cup holders, change holder and power port for the cell phone. It's where I run the I-Pod hookup--inside the arm rest storage area---quite a cool setup for $50.

At least you have a name for your project! I'm still trying to figure out one for mine. Other project names are starting to give me good ideas for mine though...

1. Payback - Hmmm.....mine should be 'Setback'.
2. Jackass - Hmmm....I'm thinking more like 'Dumbass' for mine.
3. Bad Penny - Hmmmm.....maybe just "Plain bad".

Maybe after RTTC we can have a beer-goggled brain storming session and help me come up with something. After my car started ticking at the last RTTC, your suggestion of the 'The Bomb' was hysterical, but that name scares the sh_t out of me. With all the smoke I laid down, maybe 'The Fumigator'?

Glad to hear you got your new trans in. I guess my beer and beef jerky offer wasn't enticing enough. Maybe next time a beef bowl and some San Diego Charger cheerleaders?

See you soon brother!

Don't worry, plenty of opportunities to come by and help in the future my friend. I may be headed down your way this coming Sat morning early to take possession of another deal. Once I get the car up and running, I will list my first impressions of the new setup. I heard a rumor that someone else might be looking at a potential trans swap.

I'm restricted to the 315 brother---u should be able to make those work though---how much power is that motor you got making?

Doug

last time it was on the Dyno it made 715, and just over 780 torque.
i have the anti squat up high to get the ass to plant if i remember it is at about 150. but it just blows the tires away right when the trans brake is let loose.
i would like to try and run them,
how do you set up your rear for them to work??

DFRESH 02-04-2011 07:38 PM

So, I got the car running----but, per usual a few things came up during the trans/gear vendors install. First, when I fired the car back up for the first time, it had a wicked exhaust leak. So, swap header gaskets, check the collectors, and it's still doing the wicked -tick-tick-tick thing. I don't know about anyone else here, but I will loose sleep over something like that--it drives me insane. Finally pull the freaking header off and guess what, cracked where the tube goes through the flange. Still trying to figure out how swapping the trans induced this complete annoyance. Two days later and that was repaired and back together. Bought the flexible dipstick--had too with the half inch high body mounts--nothing else would fit in the car---get it installed and the stinking dip stick won't push all the way down in the pan. Try, try, try and finally the pan comes off to grind the edge for the clearance needed to clear the dipstick. Get that done, then the jack decides it won't work anymore. So, another floor jack gets the car down and today I took it for a spin. It's a pretty cool setup---I seem to have the best luck just driving it in the "Auto Mode" and it goes through all 6 speeds. The only bummer is the new converter---it has about a 2200 stall---this turd motor that is in the car now is so very gutless, it actually took away the only acceleration it had--so, I am more anxious to get the LS3 in the car now. I will say, I was doing 120 in the car in OD and I don't think it was much over 3 g's---with that 3.08 gear and the 28 inch tall tire---come to think of it--that's not helping the car accelerate either is it. So--I like the setup---very nice on the freeway--car is quieter due to lower RPM's and everything seems to be working well. Next step, get the new rearend in the car. I'll be stepping the gear up---to a 3.23 I believe----crazy I know. See you boys at RTTC in about 3 weeks.

Doug

GregWeld 02-04-2011 07:53 PM

Good to hear Doug!

You know - because you been doing this stuff long enough - but I'll say it anyway because lots of folks read this threads - and some don't know - the effect those 28" tall tires have on the final gearing. The 3:08 is probably more like a 2:97 or so with that tall of a tire.

I was really laughing about the "pig motor" comment.... and then you do the combo - higher stall converter - tall tires - 3:08 gear.... yeah -- it'd be a pig. But that 120 on the freeway at 3000 rpms says it all.

I had a brand new set of headers leak once - locally built here by a super good header shop - had 'em ceramic coated - installed - and the dreaded tick tick tick... took me about a week to find it -- the "star" where the four tubes come together at the collector was leaking! You can't get in there to fix that without whacking the collector off. Lucky - the shop took it back and gave me a new one and even stood up for the coating. I buy all my headers from them! That's just good business!
:woot:

Vegas69 02-04-2011 08:47 PM

 Your story really hits home. My favorite is the dipstick that won't clear the pan. Drain the trans and make a mess. Glad to hear she's back on the road.

Ya---it's sitting in the garage---I started adding up the incidentals it's going to need---and then depression sets it---LOL. Accessory drive, harness and computer, mounts, headers, new tank----blah, blah, blah. I'll just continue with my philosophy of one mod at a time and piece those things together over the course of this year---the hunter continues his pursuit of deals. I just cannot tell you how horrible the motor that currently resides in the car is---I don't think it makes 300 HP. I was joking with Dave that I added 1.6 rockers to it to increase total lift on the cam to over .400----with virtually no change to power---LOL. It's just a place holder---but a very anemic one--so I am def looking forward to the motor install. The cool thing is, it came with a new Comp Cam and springs that needs to be installed. Should pump up the power to over 500---that will be a welcome addition.

Doug
