Nice lookin truck !

71RS/SS396 06-13-2011 07:38 AM

Brandon,
I really like the direction you've gone with this build

tones2SS 06-13-2011 05:29 PM

That truck looks killer Brandon. Great pick of color for that truck. Keep up the great work.

wiedemab 06-13-2011 06:01 PM

Thanks everyone! It seems to be coming together nicely so far.

There is a bit of a lull in the action this week. We are smack in the middle of planning for next fiscal year at work.....blahhhhh! My wife is back at IU in a training session so that she can teach college credit Chemistry at our local High School - - just a quick plug for my smart wife - ;) Anyway, Nora (my 2y/o daughter) and I are hanging out this week and then the whole family is headed up to Gingerman this weekend for the Motorstate Challenge.

I think Dad is going to try to make some progress on a few of the items this week if he can get caught up at work. If I have to take vacation to get it ready, we'll be at Columbus!!!!

wiedemab 07-25-2011 12:19 PM

So, many of you know of my bad luck with the engine on the way to Columbus GG. I ended up buying a ZZ4 to replace the 327. I will dig into the 327 at a later date to see what happened..............

The ZZ4 is in the truck and we just need to finish hooking everything up, put the radiator back etc.. A little break-in and hopefully, I will be driving it again soon.

HWY Nova 07-25-2011 12:59 PM

Great to hear!!!!

kennyd 07-25-2011 01:08 PM

going to NSRA nats ?

wiedemab 07-25-2011 01:11 PM

Well................................I don't know if I will be able to pull that on off with the wife. I may try. We have a bunch of stuff to get ready in our house for the arrival of baby #2.

I'd love to make it down even if I don't drive the truck down. If so, I will look you up to say hey. Dad and I talked to your dad briefly at Columbus over by the Nomad. I only got to chat with you for second or two. I just felt like I was in LaLa Land that whole weekend..............

70rs 07-25-2011 01:37 PM

I missed the engine info. The 327 gave up on you? Any ideas what went wrong?
Im sorry that happened, I know you and your dad have been busting your butts getting the truck ready. Beautiful truck by the way!

wiedemab 07-25-2011 02:09 PM

Yeah, I put the details in a separate thread, not sure why. I'll blame it on lack of sleep........

I think it spun a bearing. I made it within 35 miles of Columbus, OH on that Friday before it lost oil pressure while cruising down the interstate. I picked up this ZZ4 for not much more than it would cost to go though the 327 again, depending on what all is wrong with it.

The ZZ4 is new - A guy bought it for a project and never got around to using it. I think it will be a good engine for what I am going to do with the truck. There is a reason that GM has sold so many of them!

70rs 07-25-2011 02:27 PM

That ZZ motor is a great package and should get your truck down the road really nice.
Good luck with all the little stuff, and please post up pics of the finished interior.

Learning - Vintage Air

So, shame on me if this is in the directions and I didn't see it.......... I've never been able to get the heater control valve to work in my truck. I called Vintage Air and they told me that it was likely a bad switch. They told me how to test the switch with a DMM (ie: resistance readings at the extremes of the switch). I tested it and determined it was bad. They sent me a new one and I installed it. I still couldn't get it to work. My next step was to take the valve out -- messy and not easy to get to up under the dash. I decided to tear the little gear box apart to see what was going on.. I took the electric motor out and tested it with a battery and it worked. I put it all back together, plugged it in and still nothing. I have a new valve on order at this point.

So here is the kick in the shorts............ Dad just happened to turn on the fan/blower motor and the valve moved. Damnit! I had no idea that you had to have the fan on for the heater control valve to operate. I'm not sure why that is the case. It is fine now that I know it, but man I was frustrated............

If it is in the instructions, please commence with the Dumbass comments now!

waynieZ 07-28-2011 04:51 PM

Been there, done alot! of stuff like that! With the nice job you did on this build your allowed a few of those.

srh3trinity 07-28-2011 05:31 PM

I haven't wandered into this thread until tonight, but I am glad I did. I really like the whole look of the truck with the paint color and the steelies. The engine sounds good and strong. My wife has given me the go ahead to build a truck of this vintage one of these days so I will have to show her this one.

wiedemab 07-29-2011 06:21 AM

Thanks for the comments. This truck has been a long time coming. As I've said before there are things that I would change if I were starting on it today and there are some things that just didn't work out perfectly, but all-in-all it's a pretty nice piece. I'm looking forward to putting some more miles on it and then getting the interior finished up before next spring/summer.

HRBS 07-29-2011 06:39 AM

S.... happens. Sit back drink a  and have a laugh about it.
Then get off your behind and FINISH that bad ass truck and enjoy it !

What theme interior you going with ?
IMO a brown saddle bag (distressed) leather look would complete the "vintage" them you got going on.

wiedemab 07-29-2011 10:08 AM

Sorry, no distressed leather look for the interior. Although I like the idea. It will have grey leather.

BritishGreen68 07-31-2011 03:00 PM

looks awesome man! Just my style!

The truck made it to Indy Goodguys! I had a great weekend.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c...816/11%2B-%2B2

We ran through rain on the way home. Also, I programmed my New Vintage Speedo and it clicks off exactly a mile from marker to marker, but apparently when it reads 70, I'm running well over 80. I thought I was passing quite a few people - -- -:) I gotta figure out if I did something when I was monkeying around trying to remember how to program it. If not I'll call New Vintage and they'll get me straightened out.

I'm looking forward to seeing your truck in person!!!!!!

tommycomfort 09-18-2011 04:40 PM

We had the chance to see the truck in person this weekend and it is absolutely beautiful! The attention to detail is second to none. Exactly what you would expect from Brandon and his Dad.
:hail:

wiedemab 09-19-2011 05:40 AM

Thanks Tom - -- - I'm pretty pleased with the truck.

I think I talked Sam's ear off on the ride back to the hotel. He probably comes back and says, that guy never shuts up.

Now it's time to wrap up a few little things and see if I can get it to Darrin for the interior.

Once the family activity settles down again with the new baby (so like 18 years!!! ;) ) I need to get track car put together.

Bad94 09-19-2011 10:04 AM

I wish i would have had the 49 F1 that we built at inday cause your truck would have looked like a Chip Foose built truck next to ours.

Both you and ur dad did a ton of cool like tricks that most people dont even know about.

But how can you even let darrin touch those seats? They look great now:lol:

wiedemab 10-29-2011 07:20 PM

I haven't really had time to do much with the truck. We had another baby girl 3 weeks ago - Caroline Marie. She is a beautiful, wonderful baby. Two daughters - God Help Me!

Anyway, I hope to get the interior all finished up this winter and then cruise some more next year.

Here is a picture of the truck that DSE was kind enough to post on their site from Indy.

Also, I am not sure if I ever posted any pics of the Bed Wood. It turned out pretty nice. It is quarter-sawn Sycamore

I really like that truck, I has more look to it than most. Very nice

Great truck !!! I saw it at Good-Guys Indy !!!

wiedemab 05-24-2012 10:48 AM

A few pics of the truck sitting at the interior shop on his site.

Darrin Cutter and the crew at Cutter's Custom Stitchin' are doing the interior.

http://www.customstitchin.com/

Hoping to have it all wrapped up for Columbus Goodguys. After I get it back, all that is left to do is charge the AC and we'll be ready to rock!

Bad94 05-24-2012 03:59 PM

Such a cool truck. I will be going out to darrins a in few days, hes doing my back seat and dash for the car. Cant wait to see the truck.

wiedemab 06-14-2012 11:01 AM

I've been on the road a fair amount for work, but today I was able to make a trip over at lunch today to check out the progress on the truck. Darrin and crew have done a great job of making what I had envisioned into reality. I wanted simple (too simple in some cases, so thanks to Darrin for pushing me on a few things).

They still have some work to do to finalize it - console, finish the kick panels and a few little pieces to hide seat mounts etc., but it's getting close. I really like how it's turning out!!!!

I hope to see your truck SOMEWHERE.

wiedemab 06-14-2012 11:35 AM

Columbus is the plan for sure. It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since the I had the engine issues on the way to Columbus GG.

It's been a busy year for our family, new job (same company), 2nd daughter, new house........

Once I get it back, all I really have to do is maybe run a buffer over it, polish it and charge the AC.

Might as well wait until after Cbus to buff it, just in case you get a Lil cones rash on the auto-x :D :P :drive:

Bad94 06-14-2012 04:41 PM

Darrin has got a ton of work done in 2 weeks, since i seen it. I really like the color combo you went with.

Did you see my seat?

wiedemab 06-14-2012 07:13 PM

Sorry - - didn't see them.. I was kind of rushed trying to there and back on my lunch hour.

waynieZ 06-14-2012 08:24 PM

Brandon it looks excellent! I like the color choice and they do some great work. I wish I was closer to Columbus so I could see it in person. You guys did a beautiful job on the whole truck.

wiedemab 06-15-2012 05:53 AM

Thanks, I'm pretty pleased with how the whole theme of the trucked played out.

wiedemab 06-30-2012 09:20 AM

Well, Dad took it to have the AC charged this morning - - He said it was blowing nice and cool (and it it HOT out!). It leak tested perfect and is ready to rock. I'm going to drive it back and forth to work some this week, but it looks like I'm ready to roll to Columbus!

Darrin Posted some pics of the finished interior on his Facebook page - hopefully you can view them at this link.
