Looks great! Nice balance...I think the front needs to be done if the back is done. I like it!! But it looked better with Jon's wheels on it! ;)

Exhaust layout

We are getting close to having the transmission tunnel done & need to get the motor & trans back in the car.. so need to prep for the next stage.. EXHAUST!! Having to cross 3 inch pipe thru that x-brace is going to be intresting.. So we did a quick layout of what the exhaust will be looking like.. plus it helps with parts list of material required..

How funny is that !!! I just finished this one for a 69. But my design wasn't from a C.A.D. or Solidworks. It was from Brainworks. A.K.A strait from the brain

Cris@JCG 09-28-2010 09:24 AM

Great work as always Mark!!

Yeah! We used our brainpower in Soildworks... I can see it in 3D... Can make changes to design in minutes... use the model for future builds... make an accurate list of material... Ohhh!! & it took us about an hour to design.. I can even send it out to get bent to the design!! :D

So lets see you design it to go over the rear axle. :D

I have enough of my own thanks. I wish it was just that easy. Exhaust is pain and no 2 cars are the same.

Cris@JCG 09-28-2010 05:49 PM

I agree Rodger.. But is nice to have something that you can view & change in matter of hrs before you start the fab work on tubes.. I was not even going to attempt the design over the rear axle.. I just wanted to see how we were going to do the X-over box in the center.. Plus it is nice to print a component to scale & transfer it to metal & even guides you where to bend or break..

Buy the time you do that I'm already at the mufflers thinking about going over the rear end. :P

Clutch Master Cylinder & Firewall..

I happen to have this C6 Corvette pedal lying around & was looking @ the way the factory did the clutch master cylinder... So we dimensioned out the mounting base & machined a 1/8 plate to match the slip & locking of the master cylinder & made a custom -3 AN fitting for plumbing... nice & compact!!.. and can be replaced with a factory GM Corvette unit..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0383-2.jpg

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0458.jpg

We finally got around to mounting the firewall plate & finished the transmission tunnel on the firewall..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0459.jpg

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0462.jpg

We almost got the tunnel done on the interior ... We left it open on the rear because we got some Sparco seats on order & want to fit them up to the owner & make an arm rest instead of a console...

waynieZ 09-30-2010 07:00 PM

Beautiful work, it looks great as always.

Cris@JCG 09-30-2010 07:08 PM

Water Pump..

We will be running a Stewart Warner water pump on the LS7.. We finally got our port tool.. We made our own custom water pump fittings.. drilled & tapped to seal on o-rings... When the water pump is on the motor we will make a custom pulley & thinking we might do something for the top water neck....

Also got some new custom A/C brackets we are doing for the Saden 7 compressor... & we are also working on the dry sump..

Dry Sump Tank

We just finished fabricating a sheet metal mock up of the dry sump oil tank we are making... Rodger from Ironworks found the perfect spot to mount these tanks...

Next steps is to get it in Soildworks & get the volume on the tank ... & get a design for the oil/air seperator pot.. fit the fender.. cut a hole on the top side.. & figure out a cap.. Plumbing... & the list goes on & on..

:D

Tank Update!

We just finished the design on the oil tank & is looking like we will be able to carry about 10.5 qts of oil like the ZR-1... Got a few more things to work out on the baffel design & machine some fittings & begin to make the final tank..

I think we found a way to fill oil thru the engine compartment & not have to fill thru the fender.. still working on that one.. The oil level will be checked thru a sight glass that can be viewed in the kick panel area... I think it will work.. :D

My mind has been consumed for a week in a half with this damm tank!!

Overall design, baffles and return look great Chris! Perhaps someone on this forum knows how to simulate heavy fluid behavior (Carl?) to ensure proper flow...?

Also, why design fittings - other than the fact they're cool - when you could use off the shelf pieces?

Cris@JCG 10-07-2010 09:53 AM

Ron- My buddy that comes in the shop every Saturday happens to be a mechanical engineer who has worked & designed components for fluids & air flow.. another reason exhaust has been CAD designed.. want the X-over box to have balance.. not create turbulance

You will see when I get the tank done why we did the custom fittings.. Plus I have a few tanks I got to build.. & oil breather tank..

^ excellent Chris. I knew you were all over it! :hail:

GregWeld 10-07-2010 12:01 PM

Cris.... way cool!

Just one more complicated thought to add to your misery. Why not try to include a cleanable screen type (pancake style not canister style) oil filter inclusive in the tank IF you have to do an access in the fender area... it would be one less mounting (remote mount filter) and less plumbing fittings etc...

I was thinking that you'd make a removable top (O ringed) and just be able to pull the screen out - clean it and drop it back in... it would just be a stock cleanable filter plumbed inside the tank on the pressure return side - and that you'd be able to remove the whole top of the tank.

Just thinking out loud....

Cris@JCG 10-07-2010 06:05 PM

Thanks for the input Greg!! The design is not final & might change next week to simplify it... I got some parts on order right now for the filler neck.. that will determine final outcome..

Cris, what's your guess on when you'll be painting it?

Cris@JCG 10-11-2010 07:29 AM

Good question Skip! I am hoping to have it in the body shop in the next six weeks.. We still have alot of work to do on it.. We are working on the 3 pcs spoiler right now... Have to do the exhaust so that we can finish fab work for the opening on the tail panel for exhaust tips.. All the work has been completed on the fender stretch with front wheel well housings & firewall..
