Looking GREAT!!! It won't be long now! :unibrow:
btw What was up with all the blacktop/parking spaces before? |
  :woot:

The white house next to mine used to belong to my inlaws. My mother inlaw had a beauty shop in the basement. It was still active for the first 10 years we lived here so we had to keep the parking for it. After she closed we didn't remove it, it came in haandy when my 2 daughters got their cars. Keep them in the yard for saftey.
Not much progress today the contractor came by today and put the sheating and the AZEK rake boards on the two gable ends that face forward. Now when he lifts them they just need vinyl siding. He also started the Tyvek. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...Tyvek005-1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/Tyvek006.jpg The one that has the full coverage is the front of the garage the other one is for the second peak it goes over the porch and garage. About 1/2 an hour ago the inspector drove by and checked out mt temp power pole and called the Electrician and said it was a go. My contractor said he got a call from the electrician and he told him National Grid called and said they had time to do it tomorrow morning. :cheering: :cheering: We had a tentative day for Friday and I thought that was good timing. I can't believe I'm this lucky to get it done this fast. |
AWESOME Wayne!

Thanks Tony and TJ . power company came this morning and swapped the power over to the temp pole. Less that 1/2 an hour to complete. I feel all gitty inside. lol The lumberyard is delivering the plywood and roofing today. Greg has a boom lift he uses to lift the trusses in place. He will bring it over tomorrow so they can start the roof. If I get any pictures I'll post them later.
|
Right now with Tony's 'Karma' thread quiet, this has become the must see thread for me for now. I say that because I am jealous and am hoping to get my garage addition started within next year or so, if we don't go on strike next June.
Bad part is, that if I had to say what the general concensus right now, it looks like we might be striking. Starting next month I'm even going to start trying to make a mortgage every three weeks just so I'll be ahead if it does happen. Hopefully the rain forecasted at the end of the week doesn't set your timeline back too much |
Sounds good Wayne. Keep us posted bud.
|
TJ I hope that doesn't happen but doubling up make good sense.
They got here this morning and put the trusses up with the lift. They got the last one up at 11:00 . Now it looks like a garage! Here are some pictures. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup001.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup002.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup003.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup004.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup005.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup006.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingup008.jpg |

Youve been so hyped (and stressed at the beginning) on the garage I thought you forgot about the car:willy: Lookin good! |
No the car is never far from my mind but I can only stress about one at a time. My hair is gray now I don't want it to fall out too. Only problem is the garage is eating deep into the car fund. But you can't have one without the other.

Looking great! I have never seen a boom lift used that way....looks like it worked just fine!
|
The lift worked great he was a little worried about the the long one with the osb on it. the lift is good for 500 lb so it must have been close to max. But it got it up there.
They didn't get to work on it Thursday and Friday because or rain. It was suposed to clear out be Saturday. It never really cleared out and now the storm that used to be Tomas is coming up the coat and joining with the storm that is dumping sleet on us right now, and is supposed to be with us on and off until Wednesday. A little update. My contractor called me to check in and make sure we didn't have any leaks. He told me they were supposed to be here with a roofing company to do the garage and house roof today. The crappy weather took care of that. |
Well it was a really crappy day weather wise, but they got the house roof done. They got here at 7 am and finnished at 1:30. They stripped it put water and ice protection and shingled, put new ridge roof vent and capped it. They only did the house. My contractor is doing the garage roof and the tie in to the house. When he gets ready to shingle the garage he will put the three 14" Velux sun tunnels in . One into the house to bring some light in where we removed the window in the dining room and the other two will be in the garage near the back side close to the house.
Here are some pictures from today. Starting the stripping. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingon002-1.jpg All stripped and water and ice protection going on. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingon004.jpg 30lb felt paper and shingles going on http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingon015.jpg Caps and sealing around chimney http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingon019.jpg And the finnished roof. The parts that aren't done is where he is going to tie in the garage roof. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingon020.jpg Its getting exciting now for sure, I can't wait until the roof is all tied in and water tight. |
Eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
You Go Girl!! :d |
Looking good Wayne! :woot:
|
Looks great Wayne.
Man, I give those roofers some mad respect, especially after today's weather. It was WICKED. Cold, raw and very windy. |
Thanks guys .... It was as cold as a witches T$& in an igloo today! But I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree either. I was out there all day with them. Passing them stuff so they didn't have to climb all the way down the ladder.
|
That's because you're one of the good guys. I'm sure they appreciated it.
|
Greg came over today and finnished up the trusses that tie into the house roof. The'll be back tomorrow to put the plywood on so the roofing contractor can come Saturday to finnish tieing the house roof to the garage . They will do the high peak . The rest of the garage will be done by my contractor. They'll be making a closed valley by weaving the shingles together.
Here's a couple pictures from today. They opened up the roof and cut off the rafter tails so the last full size truss could be set against the house. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingup002-1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingup003-2.jpg This is the last of the long trusses tied into the rafters http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingup004-2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin002.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin001.jpg |
Nice progress!!
|
Moving right along Wayne. Good deal!
|
I took my life in my hands for these pictures !
They got the rest of the plywood on the roof today. I also had them put my Velux sun tunnel flashing in so the roofers can finnish the rest of the roofing tomorrow. It was a beautiful day so I took a little flight to get these pictures.
If you notice any shaking its me not the lift. lol http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingin001-1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin005.jpg birds eye view http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin009.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingin008-1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingin011-1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin007.jpg Here's the crew building the garage. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin003.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...tunnels001.jpg Here's an idea how it looked from up there. This is the highest point in the city. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...goingin010.jpg Those houses are three deckers. I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling looking at that gutter on that house. |
Nice progress there. You'll be parked inside before you know it:thumbsup:
|
Cool pics Wayne. They really are banging away on that garage, huh?!
You are a braver man than I for sure, going up on the lift and taking those pics.:willy: :D |
Not bad for a guy who doesn't like heights !
|
Those lifts can be fun at times! I have spent countless hours on them over the last 20+ years! No that you have been up that high imagine the weight of a 12' 5/8'' piece of sheetrock pushing you around! Good times! Glad the other guys on the crew do that, not me!! :)
|
You'll be moved into this in no time!
I like the sun tunnel idea. |
Wayne- you picked the right crew on this one, those guys are flat out gettin it done!! Looks great!!
Rich |
Thanks Tony It wasn't too windy when I was up there, and I was very thankful for that.
Ed I can't wait I'm getting supper excited'. Thanks Rich; Even though I had to wait to get started because of the other builders I'm glad it happened. These guys are good and thye care about checking with me on anything thats not spelled out clear. Great guys to work with. |

Sun Tunnels
Scott; My sister inlaw has one in her bathroom. Every time I leave the room I try to shut the light off ,but its not on. They give plenty of light. She has the 10" in there I put three 14" in the garage I hope with those and the two windows will give good enough light during the day for general stuff in there.
They finnished the roof Monday and put the domes on the sun tunnels to make the roof weather tight. The only thing left for them to do is the porch and siding, then the rest is up to me and it will slow down quite a bit. Here are some pictures from yesterday. Started the valley http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof003.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof006.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof005.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof004.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof009.jpg Here they are finnishing up the roof http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof010.jpg The windows went in and their goint to work out well. The bottom of the window is about chest hieght. I didn't noticed that the locks are connected when you lock the bottom it locks the top at the same time. Which is good the top is out of my reach. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof007.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ingroof008.jpg The man door went in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...rogress002.jpg Heres an obstructed picture of the roof http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...rogress003.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...rogress005.jpg The're starting on the porch and getting ready for the siding. I'm waitng for some triangle gable end vents that I ordered last Friday. |
Very nice Wayne. Talk about making progress. Good deal!
