Thanks guys... but you're preaching to the choir -- I already run one of my cars with an Inglese intake (using Imagine Injection TB's).... and I totally "get" the plenum. I took my polished weber intake off (that used lines to a small common plenum for the MAP sensor) -- as soon as I could get my hands on the Inglese unit.

I would never use the Hilborn unit -- that was just Steve's description when I said "I'll run an 8 stack injection unit".

I am a bit confused on this. Why would the plenum be necessary? Wouldn't 8 individual throttles provide better throttle response? I ask because all of the factory cars I know of, Ferrari, my M5, etc that use individual throttles do not use a common plenum.

Thanks!

Bill --- I have no idea buddy!

All I do know is that with the common plenum in the Inglese intake - I have plenty of vacuum for the items that need it. BTW -- Just so there's no confusion -- the plenum is not like a carb plenum -- there's no common area for the intake side -- just for creating a vacuum source. Otherwise each TB has it's own runner. Make sense?

GregWeld 10-20-2010 06:27 PM

My only "update" is that the rear end has been ordered from Kugel -- and the appropriate deposit sent to SAR... so work should be cranking up here shortly if not started already.

I was reading the threads on the "full floater" rear ends - ala Matt and Gonzo... and I was chuckling to myself. I'm not sure what those bad boys run - and I'm certain they're expensive - but a fully chromed out "show" rear end like the one I just ordered is an OMG! Worse - it won't improve handling one dang bit!

Oh well.... it's "hot rodding" right?!:woot:

96z28ss 10-20-2010 07:20 PM

I was there today at SAR for other things and your car is not being worked on, maybe in a couple weeks.

GregWeld 10-20-2010 08:12 PM

Yeah -- figured that - the rear end is a major component for what we're doing and it just now got ordered - and is 4 to 6 weeks out... no point in tearing the car apart quite yet.

Thanks for the update though!!

awr68 10-20-2010 08:54 PM

Greg are you changing the ride height at all? I know tire size is being changed. Did you order the wheels yet? How bout the coffee holder?

GregWeld 10-20-2010 09:05 PM

Well -- good questions -- it's a highboy -- think there's a reason for that name... A low boy would have the body channeled over the frame giving a lower look.

Wheels are going to be 20's rear and 17's front. And we're doing 215/50/17s and 295/45/20's BFG KDAs is the thinking right now.

I wanted more rake - nose down... but that will have to be done with wheel/tire size selection since we don't have adjustments for coil over mounts etc. Actually on these style cars - you want the ass in the air - so you can see that extremely expensive rear end I just bought! LOL

My buddy Stans 32 sits lower and looks lower sitting next to mine in this photo. His car was a "great 8 Riddler" in 1994 and runs all torsion bar suspension front and back (pretty high tech stuff in '94). He's running an IRS as well, but I don't think I can get down there.

GregWeld 10-20-2010 09:28 PM

Steve won't let me put a coffee cup holder in... LOL

I wanted one built in a console type deal - but he said NO. So have to go with what the pros know. I'll just buy a plastic beanbag jobbie at Fred Meyer I guess... and then toss it in the trunk when not in use.

awr68 10-20-2010 09:42 PM

I can't help it...I like them low like Stan's! Tell him hi for me!
Looks like the pic was taken at PIR?

GregWeld 10-20-2010 10:15 PM

I like 'em low too -- and will do what we can.

Yes - Beaches - Wednesday afternoon show...

96z28ss 10-21-2010 12:09 AM

Okay, its your car if you want a cup holder then have one put in.
The problem is the're thinking its not cool. What if you challenged them to add a cup holder that was engineered to be hidden, and fits in a very small space.
Saabs have been known to have some cool ones.

OK, that makes sense. I was thinking it was more like a carb plenum, but this is just to balance out a good vacuum signal. Got it!

Thanks!

Bill --- here's some pics of the INGLESE intake to show you what they did.

So the bottom of the intake has a nice cover over it:

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/DSC_7776.jpg

Shown here with the cover removed - if you look closely you can see the small holes from the runner to this common plenum area:

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/DSC_7782.jpg

Here's the holes from runner to the plenum area -- so you can see how this really only creates vacuum -- not really a common area with the problems of reversion etc:

Bob -- I think he's right with the "no" on the cup holder.... for a couple of reasons -- the first one being - it's a manual trans - and drinking coffee in a moving car is hard enough.... with the stick it's almost impossible... and I do "spill" once in a while - and the square weave carpet is not the best for clean up... and it's really just not a hot rod item.... so I agreed with him (those weren't Steve's reasons - he just said NO)... because when I thought about it... it just doesn't work. I'm okay with that.

My alternate option I came up with was to do a Mooneyes tank in front of the grill shell - and run a line into the drivers side that I can suck on . I've talked to my dentist to source one of those "J" shaped ends like they hang in your mouth some times. I think the coffee running in a clear hose would look old skool like we used to use clear or red fuel lines. Mooneyes offers a tank with a pressure pump - so I could just add some pressure to the tank - add a check valve - and a brake bias valve - and viola! Got Coffee on tap! :woot:

96z28ss 10-21-2010 09:33 AM

I had cup holders in manual stick cars. Never stoped me from drinking while driving. But I can understand, your getting up there in age now and multi-tasking is becoming to much for you to handle.

The moon eye tank idea, not bad but it would have to be thermolated cause it would be ice coffee in just a few miles.

BRIAN 10-21-2010 04:10 PM

The stacks are cool but the price to cool ratio is a bit off since they cost more than a blower. About 5 years ago Inglese was cleaning house and selling off a lot of odd stuff. They had a 4X2 inline vintage Weber looking manifold. It looked like an old Ferrari with all those carbs inline. It used an offset dist to clear the rear carb. It was super cool and different. They had a billet 1 piece air cleaner that just looked funny. Would loved to have seen it with short stacks and screens.

Just throwing out an idea to make the SBC a little different. They sold it for like $15-1800. Yes, I should have bought it!!

GregWeld 10-21-2010 04:43 PM

Yes Inglese - or any 8 stacks for that matter - aren't exactly "cost effective" -- but is anything we do with these toys? :_paranoid

I personally like the old skool kool of the multi "carb" look on these cars...

Ala my Nomad which has a combo of the new Inglese intake but using the Imagine Injection throttle bodies.... and I can mix up the looks using different stacks and or filters...

I have the full on filtered billet look.....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/IMG_0979.jpg

Or the 2 1/2" short stack / screened look....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...rtStack002.jpg

Or the 5" tall nasty stack look....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSC_4350.jpg

Or the way it currently is set up.... short Cooks filters with the painted valve covers....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/IMG_1020.jpg

Flash68 10-21-2010 05:07 PM

Nice pics Greg. I like versions 2 and 4 myself!

GregWeld 10-21-2010 05:15 PM

Thanks!

I like the "current" version with the painted valve covers. They "frame" the stacks and make them pop a bit.

Since this old POS is just a driver... I just play with it all the time. My wife calls it my "rolling experimental platform".

I like the tall stacks - but they're within a 1/2" of the hood in the front and with no 'filters' I really don't like driving it that way. I'm on pins and needles waiting for a rock or something to be swallowed!

Hide one in the seat bottom and it will never be seen till you want it.:unibrow:

I'm not redoing the interior.....

Or do you have an idea how to do this with the existing seat covering etc?

RECOVERY ROOM 10-22-2010 09:51 AM

There should be a way to do it with the seat you have, Send me some pics of the front of it and I could look and see if it is easy or not worth it

You're down there - can you snap a pix of the front like Tracy is asking for??

I'll let you walk around with me at SEMA if you do!

Your a funny guy!! They put your car in storage. I'll take a pic as soon as I can. Or call and talk to Chuck or Dave, and tell them you need a pic of the front of the seat asap.

GregWeld 10-22-2010 12:10 PM

Figures they'd stick it in a dark hole somewhere --- I just paid them! Take the money and run baby!

That does look good actually.
I'd be afraid of rocks going down the stacks as well. That would not be good.:_paranoid

Got a chuckle to myself when my new plate arrived for the 32.... Since to me it reads "re-deuce" since I'm redoing the whole car -- but of course it's also a RED deuce...

So my perfectly nice little 32 Ford now looks a bit disassembled.

A group of us got some good laughs while discussing what I "bought" while having dinner at SEMA -- the consensus was I bought two frame rails - the front upper and lower A arms... and a body.

Moderators,
Greg isn't a new member and needs no introduction Can we move this to the project section. This is a project if I've ever seen one.
Was there yesterday discussing work on another project and had to take a picture of what Greg bought.
Greg is such a bargin shopper. He got such a good deal on this. Oh the picture has front wheels on it that he isn't going to use, so that gets put in the scrap pile.

Like Gwen reminds me of "regularly" -- every car I ever buy is PERFECT.... then I tear it all apart and change everything.
