just getting done with alternator bracket to clear DSE sub at stock location, If any one is interested on it its done using a 2001 ls1 alternator bracket, get block side of bracket and mill out .937" ( to move alternator in to center up belt ) , will also need to grind a small section where the part # is located to clear timing cover, some more minimal grinding on alternator 10 oclock position bolt. all theres is to do now work on side bracket which seems straight forward.
.937 is my math with an ls6 from ctsv so it may be different for others but is doable using all GM partshttp://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...1/IMG_1910.jpg

other pic of E brake set up and it clears 3.5" aluminum drive shaft. it was a pain in the butt got it to work.patch work is done but top pic is an older one

Recap on project. while there has been quite a bit of progress and new parts. have not had time to post. so here is a recap of parts and will post some pictures later on.

LS6 W Magna Charger
T56 magnum close ratio
Inland Empire Drive Shaft
3" Magnaflow mufflers
wheels are just for mock up.

DSE
complete sub frame
Stainless steel headers
Quadra link w
9" rearend &
Minitubs
Frame connectors
Body mounts
RS headlight motors
MC booster set up
Wiper motor
Roll Bar
Vapor Works gas tank w CTSV fuel pump option
RS sport grill kit

I got it all in place and cutting and tucking where needed , like RS kit w DSE motors needed a bit of attention to make fit.

working on 3" stainless steel mandrel bent exhaust. building it from scratch including hangers from 3/8" SS rod " had fun bending those " using hight temp blue grommets to keep it as tight to the body as possible at some places 1/4". to tight ( only time will tell ). I'm doing a floater style design where Im giving it room to expand "running all hanger rods parallel to exhaust " and using flex pipes @ header collector and exhaust ports. keeping the cuts as tight as possible.
finished the exhaust ports. came out really bitching but having second thoughts as to how they are going to react to heat.
my plan is to finish car with all the mechanical and structural work done, run it for a while and cut and change accordingly where need it.

Looks great Frankie! I knew the exhaust and DS would fit in the tunnel...:D

That last transition cut at the exit seems a bit sharp? Maybe a 45 and/or a couple extra bends?

Yeah it's a bit sharp but standard 45s radii are too big and I need to go under and over rail within a short distance to line things up for exhaust port. I don't think it will play a big difference in pressure flow but it was one if the things that cross my mind quite a bit.
Thanks Ron

Nice job on the exhaust. I don't want to be the bad news guy but those hangers won't work that way.

You have the absolute right idea by keeping all the rods parallel so they can slide back forth as the exhaust grows, but those grommets will not stay in place. I know they "snap" together but they are actually designed to work with a through bolt that holds them together.

If you swap out the grommets and the brackets for a different style hanger, like the ones pypes sells or the universal parts store ones you will be fine.

You are absolutely correct but I have a trick up my sleeve for that:D
That was something else that I thought about but if I run bracket on exhaust and another on body w 3/8" bolt to hold grommet together. It will not give it room to grow. I'm trying to guide the expansion by way of hangers so it will not compromise the close tolorances to body at certain places.. I have the whole system tucked in there pretty tight. For now it's just theory I'll see how it behaves once I put some heat to it..
Good eye

If you got it figured out, you got it figured out.

Some (useless) food for thought, at 400* a straight 10' piece of stainless tubing, 3" in diameter with .065 wall will "grow" approximately .300" This is what I was told by a machinist/customer with too much time on his hands who took home a 12" piece of tubing and reported back with his findings.......I'm sure you could get there with math, as well.

Not figure out yet, just theory.
Good info . I wonder what's normal operating temperature for exhaust?

Lenie 12-15-2012 06:40 PM

Don't know temps but would like to know. Have mine tucked up really tight and floorboards got extremely hot, hot enough to melt fatmat under feet and rear seat. Now rapping exhaust.

Nice work!

Lenie Boommat makes a product for that. I've seen paper products get stuck and burn against exhaust, so count on more than 400 degrees I'd think?

Then again, coulda been my leaky engine oil...:D

I'm going to shoot it with lizard skin , and maybe jet coat it / aluminum shields.
Ron what type of product is lenie offering?

Lenie 12-16-2012 12:11 AM

I had my whole exhaust system (headers back) Jet coated, still got hot so now I've wrapped my exhaust w/header wrap and custom stitched a heat blanket fot just the top of my mufflers. Haven't installed them yet but should in the next couple of days, I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck. Thanks for the advice Ron.

frankv11 12-19-2012 08:16 AM

Ron
I've gone back and changed those sharp angles at rear, I did'n like them either was just being lazy.

0.461" for 304SS

The other part to consider is that all sections get longer, that means some sections of the tube structure will get wider as well. Flexible hangers come in hand for such things.

Very nice tube fabrication!

Thanks Carl , I will be in contact. going to be needing control module for Vaporworks tank.

got to figure out how to quote multiple comments, any how thanks phil and Ron " We need up dates on both builds"

Cut a groove in the rod and snap a c-clip on it to hold the grommet in place.

By the way, I'm still contemplating on stealing your exhaust idea:)

waynieZ 01-21-2013 09:49 PM

Those sure are pretty, Nice job.

That will hold the grommet together but would not let exhaust slide back and forth freely. I'm thinking something along the lines of safety wire..
No need to steal. I'm willing to donate!:D

thanks fellas! waiting on some pieces to finish it up.

DSE headlight motors are in and pretty close to where I want them "adjustment wise". Let me tell you this. sheet metal, bumper, grill, etc needed some work to make it all fit together and it's not done yet.
also working on tucking in the bumper making those gaps look good.

That is one bad ass exhaust system!!!

frankv11 03-08-2013 07:37 AM

so i got these about a month ago , no time to finish up exhaust but looking to take a day off work soon to finish bumper and exhaust. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...psa8629e30.jpg this one here will clear DSE sub, I made sure to leave plenty of room for steering shaft.
I dont know whether to hang it around my neck or put it on car

All winter the garage has been collecting things my wife didn't want in the cellar that we are storing for my daughter. Her and her Navy husband got stationed in CT so a lot of her stuff is shipped here. They will be here in2 weeks. Then I'll have some room to start working.
