2nd Chance Camaro - Playing with Ride Height
Posted: July 26, 11 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Good Morning all, I felt the need to play with the ride height on the car so the static rods needed to come out so I could make them adjustable. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8d782b6-me.jpg Desired ride height http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0b8c529-me.jpg Talk about a bad hair day or should I say lack of hair day. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6a29be9-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...35580d0-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...884a075-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1c73ede-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...92dac15-me.jpg |

2nd Chance Camaro - BF Goodrich Tires are in the Garage
BF Goodrich Tires are in the Garage Posted: Sept 02, 11 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Good Morning all, Getting ready to take the car to the Media Blaster. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ad18b7a-me.jpg Everything just seams to easy with this car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0e25e68-me.jpg More Vegetation http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...93b4287-me.jpg Found some Surface rust on the underside of the roof. Hopefully the media blasting will take care of it. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a7086b7-me.jpg I will be dropping off the front clip first at the blaster. I am not a big fan of working with parts that are dirty and rusty. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...843ae22-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b8140b3-me.jpg Found some Bondo - okay a lot of Bondo ...................... http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e01976a-me.jpg Eak !! -- Maybe I will build a Rat Rod instead. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4f33192-me.jpg and finally the Tire Rack..... http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...35b2118-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net www.boommat.com |

2nd Chance Camaro - Pypes LS1 Block & G-Force Crossmember Install
Pypes LS1 Block & G-Force Crossmember Install Posted: Sept 026 11 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Instead of installing the LS1 block with a cherry picker I ordered up a Pypes mock up block from www.summitracing.com . Cool product just horrible shipping box as it took 3 of them to get me one that wasn't cracked. All they did was drop it in a box and ship it ( these were drop shipped direct from Pypes not Summit Racing ) without any packing material. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ea10dc8-me.jpg Picked up a set of American Made Engine set back plates from Edelbrock. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0992dfe-me.jpg Here is picture of block #3 from Pypes. Seems they are aware of the problem and it there solution is drywall screws and epoxy. I kept this one as it was the best of the 3. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...995d831-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...36c39b7-me.jpg Set back plates worked great. I still have to move the factory Stands back about an inch so the cross member bolts line up. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...35bdd6c-me.jpg It looks like the F-Body oil pan is going to work or at least be close. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5017a84-me.jpg Empty 700r case that I kept from previous projects http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...28607e5-me.jpg Installed the G-Force Cross member and talk about a great fit. There is plenty of clearance and the lowest point doesn't hang below the stock Sub-Frame. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a7de646-me.jpg I need to move the motor back about an inch. Really happy as there is plenty of room up front to move the motor back. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5dee6f8-me.jpg Since the car will be sitting pretty low with the new Ride-Tech Coil-Over suspension I wanted to make sure the cross member wouldn't hit the ground and the guys at G-Force did a great job. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...01617a6-me.jpg www.boommat.com Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
2nd Chance Camaro - Front Clip back from Media Blasting
Front Clip back from Media Blasting Posted: Sept 16 11 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Good Morning All, Just a quick update. I sent the original sheet metal off to the media blaster. Some of these parts will not make it back onto the car but they will be perfect during mock up. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c405592-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e92bdb0-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3778fe6-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1834365-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2ba49d5-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0134f85-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1d63383-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...878adff-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
Find a GM fender at the junk yard thats good if you can Marty, the repop right fenders for these cars are crap. The lefts aren't bad but the right side repop has to be sectioned in the area between the door and hood at the windshield. I would say save it and repair, but the front area looks pretty chewed up. Good progress though.
|
Lookin good Marty.Folks should like this thread lots of full size photos for them look over.
|
Marty, just ask Scott about how much time I have in his rt repop fender. I would fix that one if I where you or at least look for a better OEM one to start with. And as stated the area between the upper door and hood is all wrong and I had cut and reshape Scotts. Other than that looks great

OMG!! This thread is like watching paint dry!!:D

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ hysterical!!
So perfect!! EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA:woot: |

I am still looking for a NOS rear Quarter and then we are good to go on sheet metal replacement. ps I am still waiting for you to get your car out of your shop so you can replace some of the sheet metal on my car. So I am blaming you. pss The Tiger Cage install is a piece of cake and it looks awesome in the car. |
NOS rear quarters you crazy!!! Yours are fine....Don't even tell me I hand striped them for nothing you F@#^&*......
|
NOS qaurters are insanely expensive for a non number matching car. Save those for Z/28's and bigblock SS cars.
The repop qaurters are very good for these cars and fit great. They are actually the best repop metal piece available for the second gen. The repops are a few hundred each, NOS are 1400 or more if undamaged and really don't fit any better. |

Hauling the 2nd Chance Camaro to US Collision
2nd Chance Camaro - Hauling the 2nd Chance Camaro to US Collision
Hauling the 2nd Chance Camaro to US Collision Posted: Oct 14, 2011 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Good Morning All, The car is finally ready to make the journey to US Collision so I enlisted the help of my oldest daughter. She was more then confident she would be able to handle the task of helping Dad get the car into the Trailer. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8aad646-me.jpg She did great the car went in without a hitch. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8811703-me.jpg Mario was surprises to see how good the car looked. However there is still paint on the car and you never know what it's going to look like under the paint. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bf403b8-me.jpg Back in my Garage I needed to make a front end dolly so we could move the car around at Mario's once we removed the subframe. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f3ca301-me.jpg Flash forward one week and Mario was kind enough to let me come over and work on the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b6b2a49-me.jpg JR helped me strip down the Sub Frame so we could put in the back of my Tahoe since I was to lazy to go grab my trailer. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3f6a19e-me.jpg We mounted the new dolly so Mario can tuck the car under his 69 Camaro Project. You have got to take a minute to go look at the build thread on his 69 Camaro. That car is going to be over the top cool. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...25b499f-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d578215-me.jpg Finally started bringing parts home from my warehouse. No matter how big your garage is you always want more space. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...56c4458-me.jpg My youngest decided she was going to help dad install the Edelbrock Shorty Headers. As you can see she believes in Safety First. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5ebae99-me.jpg In order to tuck the exhaust on 2nd Gen. Camaro's you are going to need Shorty headers. Edelbrock headers are American Made and the only choice for this project. They will only need a minor modification on the one side. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8d747ac-me.jpg Both my girls are hard workers and always willing to lend a hand sooner or later I am going to get my wife to come out to the garage to work on this car. |
Looking good Marty, it's nice to see the kids involved.
|
Great pics Marty!
Funny -- my daughter was always out in the shop with me.... My son had no interest at all. Get down in the engine room of the boat (twin 300 hp Cummins turbo diesels) and Adrienne was right there with me - asking "what's that - how does it work" etc. |
2nd Chance Camaro - Cutting out the Stock Wheel Tubs at US Collision
Cutting out the Stock Wheel Tubs at US Collision Posted: Oct 26, 2011 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Good Morning All, Now that the Camaro is at Mario's we can start getting the car ready for the new BF Goodrich KDW2 Tires. The plan for the car is to be street worthy and not look like every other Camaro being built right now. First and foremost it has to be comfortable to drive and not attract the attention of every Law Enforcement officer on the road. Mario did all the work getting the tubs removed and trust me I heard all about how the instructions sucked and that the DVD wasn't much help either. So I did jump in the car and headed over to his shop and together we were able to figure out what they wanted us to do. Step 1: Trim using the provided templates http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0c97a46-me.jpg Step 2. Cutting the floor. It doesn't have to be a snug tight fit as the new piece that you will be welding to the floor will take up some of the gap. Also when you clamp the new wheel tub to the vertical piece it will close up any gap that may be there. (( Picture will be posted later )) http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...51a9c09-me.jpg Mario doing what he does best -- did I mention he called me and my car a bunch of names. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...420215d-me.jpg Step 3: Remove Wheel Tub Make sure there is plenty of clearance to get the new tubs in. That's it - it's that simple. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e6d77f4-me.jpg Step Four: Final Test Fit Make sure you can slide the new tub in and out easily. If not remove more metal. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6260758-me.jpg Mario did his best to take a couple pictures. Seems Kenny and him are both Experts on the Camera. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...15a93cf-me.jpg Next step is to haul the car to Pro-Tek Powder Coating to for Media Blasting. All I can say is Mario is a great guy and I can't wait to ride with him to BBT Fab. I am certain that ride is going to be entertaining. |
