Payton -- that's looking first class! Nice welding and I like the use of the silicone bronze rod...

dhutton 07-13-2011 10:09 AM

Beautiful work. Just curious, how long did it take to do all that finish TIG welding? I don't think I have the patience, aside from the obvious lack of talent, to do work of that caliber.

Don

waynieZ 07-13-2011 10:46 AM

It looks great Payton. They do beauitiful work.

I will try

and get Dan on here to answer some questions. I know he was in the trunk working the pedal with his ear and welding behind his back and between his legs. LOL

Fluid Power 07-13-2011 11:03 AM

Nice! It makes me feel like I put my stuff together with a hammer.

Payton King 07-13-2011 12:11 PM

Greg was correct

silicone bronze rod.

GregWeld 07-13-2011 12:17 PM

Kyle -- Silicone bronze rod is great for TIG on sheetmetal etc where it is NON STRUCTURAL.... it welds with lower heat - thus lowering the warp factor...

HotRod68Camaro 07-13-2011 02:23 PM

Awesome, thanks guys. I want to pick up a TIG soon so i'm trying to learn as i see fab pics.

Steve68 07-13-2011 02:37 PM

PK, Looks awsome,

Dan makes patterns with card board and green tape, so do I, works great !!!!

coolwelder62 07-13-2011 02:43 PM

Hey Guys,
Glad you guys like the work. Doing that kind of work is definately a challenge but having a good project owner like Payton makes a guy want to do his best.
Probably the most challenging thing working on a project like this is that's it's a painted, running car, a very nice painted running car! So being careful is half the battle and the other half was trying to figure out how to get my old, half blind butt in and out of that trunk. Had it pretty much down to a science before it was done, but did almost get stuck once.
Legs hanging out the trunk, pedal bewteen my knees and my head stuck with my helmet on, under the package tray, but did mange to get out after a lot of grunting and talking to myself......

Again, glad you like the work and thanks for the kind words......

Yup....

W/silicon (note, there's no "e") bronze rod, It is not unlike gas brazing. You are simply using a different method of providing the heat.

radrambler 07-18-2011 06:21 AM

nice job

And because we cannot leave anything alone

I decided I did not want to use the poly bushings and I was not hip to the heim joints, so I took JP;s advice and used the sphoon ends. Very nice piece but they are large, which made us modify the bracket on the housing and do a little work in the pocket. Turned out nice
