That was the best one yet. I would volunteer my time if I didn't have to drive 400 miles to help. I wonder what Jeff is working on for SEMA? He is usually doing 15 hr days at this point.

Yea, we just stopped by to help out, 400 miles away.
We're working on my Ultima GTR (fresh from beating Big Red in the 0-200-0) which will be in the Hahn booth next to Baer Brakes. |

Looking good, Kevin. It has to be a relief to start getting color on the car.
|
Color is good. More color is better. Hopefully we have more color tomorrow.

Keep it up, guys!

It is painfull to see what they are putting themselves through. I thought I had some difficult deadlines in the past. Definitely a strong willed group of people. Best of luck, and be safe on the way to SEMA.
|
Thanks Bud, we appreciate the kind thoughts... unfortunately, the updates will have to wait until tomorrow... lots to do tonight and in the AM. Sorry, but more to come! Press on!

Its 6:30 am, we are in Amarillo TX heading to Vegas. Kevin just posted another update of him at a gas stop last night. It will be easy to see he hasn't had much sleep lately. The car is in the trailer and doing great so far. We are planning to post blog updates from the road - check it out on our website www.v8tvshow.com and scroll down to "latest video". Got lots of driving to do - gotta go. We will show you the car in Vegas in the Royal Purple booth on Monday. Stay tuned!

I think he is bowing congratulations. Or stealing glances at new suspension ideas?

It's Alive!
OK, so the Royal Sport Camaro has been progressing s-l-o-w-l-y over the past couple of months... when we brought it to SEMA, it was a thrashed-together shell of a Camaro, but now it's finally alive! All those who have assembled a car from a windshield frame and a frame jig know the huge amount of time the details take. But now, it is a real car after all... no longer a screwed together pile of parts... it has a thumping, beating heart. We started it tonight, and it seems to run pretty good so far. We'll post a new video tomorrow. First drive should be in a couple days, as there are still some details to work out, but we hope to get 'er dialed-in at the YearOne event. We're trying to get our new website off the ground as well, so things are pretty insane.

It is that last 10% that is 50% of the job I tell ya. Can't wait to see it there. It is a sharp car.
|
Kevin...Are you guys gonna have it on Power Tour ?
|
Hey Charlie -
We're going to deliver the car to the Royal Purple people after YearOne, and they may bring it out on the Tour this year. I'd bet it's going next year, though. This year may be a little early, it will need some shakin' down before a big trip like that, but it is a pretty simple car.
Kelle says "hi Charlie!" |
Royal Sport Photos @ Year One
Well, we handed the completed car to Royal Purple this past weekend at Year One. There are still a few issues to resolve, as we didn't really have any time to drive the car, but the few laps we took around the event felt really good. Nice and tight. The people at Royal Purple are going to wrap up the final details, and then we hope to get it out on a track and see what it will do. Thanks to all for the support and help on this one... it never would have happened without everyone's help and input. Thanks to Scott and the Lateral-G community for letting us post here... this is truly the best enthusiast forum on the web!

Power Tour ?????
|
The extrems people will go to, to own a 69 camaro is mind bogling, wow
|
Thanks for the kind words guys.
Charlie - Maybe Power Tour 2008... they want to add some miles to this car before it goes to resolve any issues... I know of a few that popped up at YearOne, so I think it's a good idea to be patient. And G-Body - it's more like the extremes people will go to when putting on a TV show. We thought it would be cool to do this car... looking back, there were easier ways, but nobody had ever done this much on an enthusiast show before. It was the closest thing you could come to Extreme Makeover Home Edition without the house! |

And the Car isn't all !
I had a few years as a broadcast engineer and to think that someone could do this awsome car - while at the same time setting up the shot lists, writting scripts, being the talent (in front and behind the camera), doing editing and post production, running a business, a web site, ordering parts, doing a full time TV show -- and then -- build the car ! :hail:
Thanks for making the rest of us feel like real couch potatoes..... All the best ! Jim |
what happened with your last episode, the one with the race trailer howto. it was a complete infomercial. i understand you guys need advertisement income, but you need a balance of useful/interesting information & ads. this last episode was worse than 2-guys-garage (the kings of automotive infomercials).
this episode aside, i love your show & have watched every airing. shane |
Hey Shane,
Yes, the current episode is a departure from what we normally do - and there's a story behind it. I guess it would have been in infomercial if we did generate revenue for it, but that was not the case. After airing 54 episodes of the show, Nick Scavo and I had a conversation about the importance of having a dialed-in race trailer as a part of a winning strategy. So we decided to shoot a trailer makeover with a shop tour feature and see how it was received. We get lots of email from people wanting to see how stuff is made, kind of like they do on the Made In America show and the like. So we tried it. We didn't gain anything from it, but it apparently appears that we did. Your comments are noted. Some of the other elements like the techniques of polishing aluminum at Rad Rides with Tap Magic were also straight editorial, we didn't receive anything from Tap Magic beyond a couple free samples. We did show some other new parts like the Holley DVD and the MSD e-curve distributor, which I think are both cool items. The next episode returns to the more traditional V8TV format; in fact, it's a wrap-up on the Royal Sport project from start to finish. I'd welcome comments to that one as well. Thanks for watching the show and taking the time to let us know what you think. After all, we're airing this for enthusiasts like you, and we'd prefer you enjoy the show. - Kevin Oeste |
