The exhaust is finally completed and is suspended from it's hangers. Never thought I would have so much time into just an exhaust system.

As usual super sano. Are those resonators behind the flex joints?
|
Thanks and yes, made by Vibrant. Thought it might quiet it down just a touch more.
I ran the same pypes mufflers on my Chevelle and thought they were perfect, so that's why I'm using them again. You can hear it when you're on the gas but at steady cruise it was nearly silent inside the car. (the turbos certainly help that). But surprisingly quiet for a straight through muffler. |
I've been thinking of running resonators after the axle where you have your mufflers in addition to mufflers in front of the axle to tame the sound some.
|
Jim you sure are building a top notch car there!! And you seem to be getting a lot done in the summer months, can't wait to see how much gets done over the winter! Where do you get the exhaust tubing from? I need to get some for my center pipe.
|
Thanks, this is where I buy most of the tubing-

That's your big boy system. :wow:
|
OK Jim I know you have some updates. What have yo been up to ? :unibrow:

Friday- http://imageshack.us/a/img32/7200/diavel008.jpg Today- http://imageshack.us/a/img189/3681/xl600818.jpg Maybe I'll work on it tomorrow? Probably nothing picture worthy. In related news Larry from Evod said the wheels are finished and tires are going on. Should have some pics next week once he gets back from the Concours D'Elegance. :) Um, I built the 9in center section with OEM take-out 3.50 gears and a tru-trac. Waiting to hear back from the DSS on a driveshaft. Oh, my near perfect front and rear glass that I screwed up with welding slag (don't trust poster board for this) is nearly done being resurfaced and polished. There's a couple grand out of the budget due to my mistake :( |
Jim a little late but!!
3M™ Welding and Spark Deflection Paper, 05916 http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4c5e3e468a.jpg This stuff works!! Not cheap but cheaper then glass. |

The healthy living 101 brainwash has gotten to me :D I thought you were out on one of these. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...jinca/bike.jpg The glass story hurts :( Parts like that for my car are a bitch to find I can't even imagine sourcing 57 Caddy glass. |
I did happen to find that 3m stuff as well, after it was too late. :(
Nice bike! Mine's just been collecting dust for the past few years, it may be time to pull it out of retirement. |

Glad to see the progress. BTW caddy glass is all flat except for the front windshied. When you buy a windshield ask for a 57 buick one. It is the same thing except they charge more for a caddy one.
|
Well, the side glass is flat, front and rear glass is curved and specific to the Eldorado Brougham and not interchangeable with any other model.
I can buy a new windshield but it's missing the 'bubble' at the top so it doesn't look as nice. Or I found a used front/rear glass for $5k. |

Wheels are finished! Having these built made a lot of things possible that otherwise wouldn't be. They have preserved the classic look of the car while allowing 19 and 20in Y speed rated (186mph) Michelin PS2's and also clearance for C6 Z06 brakes.
All of this should compliment the Roadster Shop chassis well. Thanks to Larry and the crew at EVOD for the impressive illusion! :) http://imageshack.us/a/img23/359/evod3.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img441/2702/evod4.jpg |
:wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:
    Holy wheels Jim, if I didn't know better I would bet money thoughs were hub caps!! You will fool a lot of people with those that's for sure. Way to go keeping the look and feel of the org wheels! Now you just need some BLACK paint on that car!!! :unibrow: :_paranoid |

I just read this from the start. Wow! What a cool build. From the wheels up, very very cool.

70rs- Thanks! |
Those wheels are gorgeous.
If a nice set of forgelines starts at $4k, can you tell us if those are less than double that price ? Just looking for a ballpark. I absolutely love billet recreations of classic wheels. |

Awesome, awesome effect those wheels create... :wow:
|
THx
and preston, no, more like triple plus some change but these are on the high end because of the diameters and simulated sidewall/painting/etc. Starting price on a simpler one-off would be much less. |

This reminds me why I am going with production wheels cuz I'm low budget. Well lower budget.:_paranoid As with everything else you've done so far,..... those wheels are perfect. |
Thanks! I would have considered a production wheel but thought anything else on this car would look out of place.
More shiny stuff! Before/after of new chrome and polished lenses. This is why this car will take me forever. Other than modifying just about everything on the car, the restoration work is a lot to do as well. http://imageshack.us/a/img443/9691/e...hamchrome0.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img267/6281/e...rougham383.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img534/5290/e...rougham384.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img805/81/eld...rougham382.jpg |
:wow: That looks great. Are all those dash pieces metal? On my Fairlane my dash was plastic chrome so I sent it to CV Vacuum platers. It came out sweet but CV is out of business. If any of it was plastic who did the resto?
|
The top Caddy models in '57-'58 had amazing dashes. '57 Olds 88's are also up there IMO.
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...s/eb_1002s.jpg |
The chrome dash is all metal.IIRC.
Are you going to change the shift pattern indicator to the modern way? |
Thx guys.
Yes, I'm sending them to Redline. They said they can make new lenses and I believe silk-screen the lettering? I was considering a higher MPH speedo face as well but not sure if it could be calibrated to show the correct mileage. |

Yes that car is sweet! 22 inch EVOD's.
I received the chromed buttons today and finished assembling the gauges. They will be sent out to Redline gauge works tomorrow for conversion. http://imageshack.us/a/img843/3742/e...rougham385.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img832/3084/e...rougham386.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img802/6465/e...rougham387.jpg |
That is funny, your dash is different than my 57. I thought they were all the same. Are you going to keep the memory seats?
|
|
There was a bit of a miscommunication on the wheels and they ended up not fitting the car. Rather than try to modify them they are going to make a new set.
I've been working on the front seat, integrating seat belts. The belt regulator and top mount/bezel are from an Escalade 3rd row seat and mounted in a similar fashion (belt exiting top of seat). I measured the distance on the Escalade seat from the seat bottom to the bezel and made pieces to mount these at the same height on the Brougham seat. Feels like it will be comfortable and the angle on the belt is minimal. (should be fine as it exactly duplicates the geometry of the stock cadillac seat). Seat frame will be strengthened. Where the rearmost seat mounting holes are in the floor I'm going to add a body mount there to the frame. Now I need to take the seat back frame and modify the structure to go around the seat belt assemblies. Over this will be a shaped piece of high density foam that will take place of the original springs. I'll have the plastic seat belt bezels duplicated in aluminum and chrome plated. http://imageshack.us/a/img843/5413/img2022kd.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img641/7434/img2023a.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img17/6113/img2024qr.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img534/9821/img2025r.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img547/7384/img2026q.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img89/4447/img2027zw.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img705/7958/img2030sm.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img32/2430/img2033pa.jpg |
Ok, on to the rears. Much easier install here. Regulators mounted via an "L" bracket to the floor just ahead of the trunk hinge structure. Of course all mounting points will be reinforced. Pass-through hole cut in rear deck where bezel mounts were welded in. Put matching holes in the rear package tray and attach bezel. Looks nice I think! Not as clean as no seat belts at all but I like the idea of having them. The metal latch plates can be slid down between the seat cushions when not in use so the only thing you would really see when parked is the bezels and belts.
I'm having all the bezels made in aluminum which will then be chromed to match everything else in the interior. Front bezels will be made on a radius to match the seat curvature. I picked up some mid 60's Cadillac belts and will have everything re-webbed jet black and put together with the vintage latches. Too bad I couldn't get the same pattern on the belt material as the seats, might blend in better. http://imageshack.us/a/img560/3321/img20381y.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img526/604/img20361w.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img24/1599/img20391s.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img705/2039/img20441b.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img525/487/img20421.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img29/6007/img20401.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img21/9743/img20431.jpg |
