One of my favorite all time car bodies!

One day before I'm munching pablum and wearing a diaper I need to build one of these.

Hawaii was awesome. We did alot of Scuba diving before I ruptured my ear drum. Saw lots of cool stuff, rode scuba scooters and had a great time. We rode mountain bikes from the top of the Crater (10,023 ft) to a friend of mines house at about 3500 feet, this was on a dirt rode for 80% of the way. I did some paddle boarding and that is fun, but its like trying to stand a telephone pole of surf board. I did pretty good when your going with the waves but it gets shaky when your not. We ate some good food and had a great time hanging out with Greg and his family while they were there. After we made our reservations for the trip I mention to Greg we were going to Hawaii and he told me he was also. Come to find out it was the same island and our trips over lapped by like 8 or 10 days. I really had a great time on the whole trip. I would love to go again or go some place else. Bora Bora would sure be cool. I could post some pics but I don't want to Hijack this thread much further then usual.

You should ask Darrel the owner of this car about the concrete lions in from of the fancy place he stays at. Now that is big time.

Yes Sir. Greg stayed up in Kapalua. We must have drove by your place alot.

We stayed in Pukalani, which is up on the east Crater with my wife's family in a guest house they have.

Maui is very beautiful.

I would like to get my hands on one of those nova rear spoilers so I could pull a mold off of it.

I can't believe the hood was the same width

It's not even close.

This picture should give you an idea of how much work this was and still is.

Ok yeah. I looked at the picture where you had some 'E coat' on it. thought it was a hood straight out of the box. But hey that looks great! awesome.

DETON8R 01-13-2013 10:49 AM

I saw this chassis up close at the Pleasanton Good-guys show last year and it is awe inspiring. I spent way to much time talking to the Ironworks guys while I drooled all over it, and they were really proud of their work, as they should be!!:hail: :hail: :hail:

I'm blown away with the fabrication that is taking place to get it into the car around that amazing Corvette chassis. The BEST !!

I think about this car every time I work on my neighbor's 66 Nova, and his car is a bone stocker, that someone stuffed a 400 small block into, 3" exhaust thru glass-packs, mono springs, drum brakes all around, 3-speed manual, and dinky "pizza cutter" tires on 14" center lines.

This Ironworks car is the complete opposite of that car. I can only imagine what it will be like to drive this modern rendition of a classic. Unbelievable work!!

Thanks for the props, the car is coming along great, can't wait for it to be finished,Rodger and the gang at Ironworks are doing a super job:thumbsup:

ironworks 03-12-2013 11:12 AM

Time for some kind of an update.

The hood is nearly complete. Lots of welding and metal finishing.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...12-2013005.jpg

Really rough mock up of the the new tail panel or old trunk lid. The trunk has been modified to open like a Camaro. We leaned the tail panel forward to give the car a much more high speed look. We are working on the transition form the side of the taillights up to the upper trunk gap.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...12-2013004.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...12-2013003.jpg

Lots more details to go, but I'm liking the direction so far.

Yeap we copied you but just leaned it forward. Your car was way easier.

But I like the lean on the tail panel! The tail lights allow for it to happen.

tubbed69 03-12-2013 02:37 PM

That is some great mods and super metal work as always

Sinco 03-13-2013 09:11 AM

Looks good as always Rodger

Thanks Guys.

Flash68 03-13-2013 10:41 AM

Yeah that lean in is a sweet idea. :RunninDog:

ironworks 03-20-2013 07:31 AM

Sneaking up on the design. I think we are going to ad just a bit of curve to the panel. Then I need to figure out how or what we are going to put in the tail panel for to fill that broad flat spot. It looks too much like Nebraska currently.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...13-2013014.jpg

Believe it or not the top of the rear bumper is not flat. So we did some surgery to flatten out the peak in the rear bumper. I think we will cut the tacks and narrow the bumper further.

HWY Nova 03-20-2013 07:33 AM

Will you be adding a gas filler cap in the panel?

Royalworks 03-20-2013 11:46 AM

Why does everyone always refer to Nebraska as being flat. What about northern Oklahoma? ;)

Krazed 03-20-2013 04:34 PM

Or even central Wyoming? Break the stereotype! :D

Awesome work guys. Love it as usual!

ironworks 03-20-2013 05:10 PM

Thanks guys, I drove all the way across Nebraska a few years ago and its flatter than a board.

We thank you for spilling all that diesel fuel as well....LOL We do have a few hills they just aren't around the river where the Interstate is so you need to add a few bumps to that panel. ;)

Yes,right in the center, also wanting to put a billet piece across the back, something similar to the stock SS molding, maybe instead of SS it may read ZL1:thumbsup:

Time to narrow the bumper, and get the side profile of the spoiler set up. The figure out how to get the trunk to open and close smoothly. HMMM

214Chevy 04-10-2013 12:00 PM

Awsome Rodger. The slant on the trunk is sick.:welder: :welder:

Your just mad your not in on the joke. It was funny when Jason WAR and I picked Darrel up at his hotel for SEMA and they had concrete lions in the courtyard. Ever since I have just beat that dead horse. It's jokes like this that make Darrell one of the good customers.

Lots of work done here. The bumper is reworked to flow with the body better since it is sucked in so far. We are about ready to put the side profile on the rear spoiler. I think we have enough things we like to get that very important detail dialed.
