Any time to work in this machine? This car is sweet!
|
I'm in the middle of a Hemi truck restore, but my plan is to start back on it after this weekend.

Looking forward to you finishing up this car Ron!

Started tearing into the cowl, and firewall. Had to remove the cowl vents, cut out the rest of the cowl, and start from scratch. Now i have to bend up the front down bars.

Love this! Did you ever consider doing this as a mid engine, IRS? Would have made the exhaust a little easier.
|
I don't think I could afford to buy or fix one of those transaxles when it breaks. I really did dig the midengined Mustang at SEMA though.
|
Started fabbing the rear shock brackets, as with everything else in this car it is very space limited. Wanted to put the springs as far outboard as possible, can't get over how far in the hoop of the wheel they landed. Still need a little tweeking, but at least I know they will fit.

Ron,Lookin good.

Started making the tubs today, kind of an engineering challenge due to the removable body, and the rollbar tubing passing right through the middle of the tub. The tubs will stay with the body when removed, the floor with the chassis. Got the sides and rail built still need to make the wrap around part.

I used a shrinker to curve the angle. I would normally use 20 gauge on the tubs, but the tub wil rivet to the roll cage on this car and the body is removable, this made me go with 18 gauge. The top of the tub will be 20 though.

Got the gas tank mounts built, man this stuff is taking way too long. Hoping to have all chassis stuff done this week, and just consentrate on sheet metal. I'm pretty happy with how it is coming out, but fear its going to be as heavy as everything else I build.

Ron,Lookin great.
|
Got the tank top mounts made and the floor between the tubs. Really makes you think, as to how the panels will lay due the body unbolting from the frame.

That's a big panel to get steps rolled in.Looks great.
|
Got the tubs welded in, the removable body made it so the tubs had to be slotted, so when the body leaves the rollbar slides right through the opening. The opening will get a cover when its installed all the way. The panels between the tub and the door jamb look like they are going to be a PITA, you can see the wheelbase change at the tub area.

Looking So far Ron.Will you want remove after you finish ed the car or just for final assembly.
|
The body will probably never leave the chassis again once its built, I just loved it for the cage work, and the fact that I can if I ever want to change things up. Who knows, Pro Street might make a come back.LOL

Dude!
You got down yesterday and knocked it out. That looks very nice

Have to fill the area where the 7" was added to the wheelbase. Made a channel to make up the space between the door jam, and the tub, then filled the space. The only rust on this whole car was the window channel, which I removed and replaced with the new filler channel. Sucky part is now I have to do the other side.

Started messing with the flares, what do you think? It really doesn't look that crazy considering the 7 extra inches of wheelbase.

Its coming along nice , nice work.
|
Keep pluggin away Ron! Very cool.
|
Ron,When do you think you will have this monster running down the road.
|
I'm hoping it will be out this year, it sure doesn't look like it though.lol I've got a POS 6.0 Silverado engine tucked under my bench I may just blow the dirt out of it, cam it up, and stick in there just to work the bugs out. Or maybe I'll pull the Mustang engine freshen it up, and stick a Ford motor in that car, who knows.
|
Nice build....:trophy-1302:
I would see the rear wheels going a little bit outside the wheelwells... They seem a little shy as is...and you would gain space for your coilovers. David |
The pics don't really show how much of a bulge is really there. This car I want to be much more mild on the outside then my Mustang is(as mild as it can be with 335's all the way around). I really want to see if with a little nip and tuck I can clean up the awkward lines of the AMX. Like the title says, its an Xperiment. The front unfortunatly wil have quite a bit more bulge then the rear due to the lack of transition area on the front, compared to the rear. That to me is the fun part of the build.
|
Ron, just hurry and finish this thing.LOL!!!
|
Is your 335 beast done yet? well is it? well? LOL

You're right on Ron, it's needs to be subtle, well until you notice the 335s :ohsnap: |
Starting to get some of this stuff cleaned up, and figured out. This is definitely the most complete the car has been since I've owned it. You can kind of see what it is going to look like. The next thing, is to somehow getting the trunk lid hinged, due to the wheelbase change, and the big tars, the hinges are about 3" into the air portion of the tires when closed.

That is looking very nice!
I like the direction the body is going.

I'm watching this part closely since I have a similar issue on my Dart. Looking forward to what you come up with. |
Just move in your hinges to clear the tubs and put shocks on it. Clean and opens with that cool speeesh sound. I guess that does open another problem. You will have to make an new mount on the underside of your decklid. You might cut the bracing out and move it over and splice it together to look factory. Just a thought.

You're a wild-man! I love it!

Almost looks stock :D
