Cast Iron Gray Engine Color
I like the Cast Iron Grey on engine blocks personally... :D
http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/DSC02683.jpg I think it sets off aluminum heads and billet goodies! |
I just got caught up on your build, its great to see you working on it again. Its looking awesome, engine block and pan black, heads and intake natural allum or paint allum as close to natural color as you can find.
looking forward to more pics- Rich |
For a good aluminum look you can try Duplicolor aluminum paint. I sprayed the case of my T56 with it. It matched the new OE bellhousing I bought very well. My only complaint is it has just a little bit too much sheen when it's fresh. It loses the sheen over time or at least the LT1 intake that was on my last engine did - it ends up looking very natural.

Depends if you plan on keeping the car the same color. With the frame, firewall, inner fenders being a dark color. The engine being black it will disappear. If everything around it is dark it should be light in my opinion.*

You go Tony, little at a time!!!

Glad to see this project is back on track!

Thanks again guys for all the great input! I never really liked the color differance of the silver...it was sold as an aluminum color paint but turned out bright silver. Oh well, no biggie!

Little Update!
I found that the fender extension that was on the car when it was blue fit better so I worked with that one. This is what a repop fender and extension fit to the OE valance that was off Curtis' '67 fit like. Not so pretty!
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMAG0474.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMAG0477.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMAG0476.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMAG0478.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMAG0503.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMAG0504.jpg I'm done with the fender to valance fitment. Still need to address the fender to fender extension where there's an inconsistant gap (both sides of the car). I also have modded the center valance support as well, so now everything bolts up nicely with no real pressure...that alone was a huge improvement! I know for the pro's this isn't a big deal...but for your average drywall guy I feel good about the results! |
Big improvement. The fit was way off! At least you had one OE part to help line everything up to. :D
Keep at it....I want to drive that bad boy! |
Looking good Hero!!!

Nice work buddy! I'm glad you're getting lots of practice with sheet metal. My car needs tons of work, come on up any time! ;)
|
Uh -- hum --- clearing throat.... Had you started all this fine work 10 years ago -- you'd have been done by now!
:unibrow: :D |
Nice work Tony! Keep the up dates coming.
|
Looking good Tony, but I thought the car was painted?? Did it not come out as nice as you wanted it to? Keep at it it will all come together.

Thanks Guys! |
I had another post here and then went back and read through the whole thread. I feel so bad that after all that time and how many times you have gone through this there were things that needed that sort of attention. You are a better man than I.

Actually, you are my hero! Thanks for keeping us safe! :patriot: |
Guys and Gals, Let's not forget about all the good that happened over the last three years with this car. Many of you stepped up and donated a lot of money to help us out, Pete stepped up in a huge way and many sponsors helped as well...and Camaro Performers used the car for a year! This is all good stuff, we are still very greatful and it will never be forgotten! :lateral:
There are a few things I want to finish, then we will respray the car and be off and running to the finish line! It's all good!  Remember, positive energy makes great things happen! :lateral: |

Last time I saw that car it was mint.... especially for a "road course" car. All it needed was glass, interior, drivetrain and I think the trunklid. I'm blown away seeing this, after all the donated parts and labor that went into it. It's almost like it was all for nothing now? :omg: Please tell me there is more to it... Like you won the lottery or something and now can afford to make it Riddler quality or something, because other than that, I don't understand???? I would have given my left nut (and that's my favorite one) to have that car as you got it. That was like a once in a 100 lifetimes type of deal. I even looked through the old thread again just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I guess it doesn't look it by this post... but I'm speachless over this  |

Tony's car is one that I want to see done more than any...including mine. Besides he promised to let me drive it. :captain: |
Everybody has a different comfort level with imperfection. It's his car and the way he wants it is all that really matters.
Once you get out and really start using these cars, perfection is not nearly as important as rock chips, cone rash, rain, fluid spray, are natural. The car show guys can really pick a car apart. I used to be like that but I prefer a car that is used vs. a perfect show queen. It's really not that big a set back. |

Probably a good thing he isn't calling it 'Karma' anymore and is just calling it 'My Car' |
Feel like I'm late to the party. Along with everyone else, glad to see it moving forward and hopefully excising remaining demons. I really glad your getting all this experience with fabrication and welding 'cause to get My Chevelle out of it's ten year life as a shelf I'm gonna need to borrow you. Please tell me we don't have to go through the whole color thing again though.....:willy:
Hey, if you can get away this weekend or next, come out to P.I.R. |
