This is the last car I worked on before selling my shop and moving to Columbus, in 2008. To my surprise he just popped up at Goodguys yesterday, so I pointed him back to the "second tier". He received a lot of compliments, and a handful were directed to me. The design/techniques/processes were my ideas, he did a majority of the work (body shop owner). I grafted the Mini lights into the fiberglass race clip, and made the hood from a Harwood scoop and the two-layer (stock style) race hood. I designed the dash and rear fascia and set up the bucks for him to build them, plus did some of the initial 'glass lay-up on them. I designed and tested the hood hinges in CAD, and had them cut. The mounting blocks that bolt to the hood were supposed to be sculptured, but he didn't have the budget for more CNC, at the time, and I guess not the patience to hand carve them. The hood/fender mounts, tach mount, shifter gate plate and knob are my design and work - those were fun to do. The gate plate is hammered from a 3/4" piece of flat 6061, and hand shaped (with die grinders and right-angle grinders). There are some pieces missing on the hood/fender mounts, and they were originally supposed to be TIG'd and left that way for a fabricated look, but the welder was so awful we had to blend them. :rolleyes:

Overall, I'm not really happy with the final outcome, but I guess that's a normal thing as you look back. There are a lot of things I would do different; a lot of things I wouldn't do now... I almost begged him not to fill the quarter windows, before I left, I lost that one! :P

Remember waaaaay back when? If you didn't go to a show, you had to wait for your buddy to get back, then wait for him to get his film developed, then find the time to get together so you could see the pics (provided the pics were any good)

Thanks again for providing all the photos for those of us who didn't endure the humidity to enjoy those builds in person.

I spent at least an hour in Pomona looking at George Ps car. There isn't a lot of Torino left there, it's a 69 Troy.

No prob. Of course, if I was in SoCal there's a good chance I wouldn't have been here either. I've been trying to get there for 32 years. I might never leave once I finally make it! :lol:

Those two guys standing behind it were discussing that when I got there. The one in the gray shirt kept saying, "I think it's a Torino... Yeah, it's a Torino." Then waivering back to uncertainty. I confirmed it was, indeed, a Torino then started backing back out of the conversation, when he started talking about what was different.

It was the end of the event, the heat and humidity had beat on me for two days, and I was ready to hit the road - no time to try to explain what Troy did to a car with Poteet's backing. :faint: :rofl:

I used to sit behind my computer screen wishing someone, anyone, would post pics of the Detroit Autorama, who's in the Great 8, who won the Ridler - every year, year after year. So, since I'm there taking pictures anyway, I make it a point to share. It's more fun this way, anyway. :cheers:

Yup! :thumbsup: I'm ready to experience some of the other ones now. I know Columbus is their "Big One", but I'd just like to experience the atmosphere in other places - especially on the West Coast. I also need to go to SEMA, GNRS, etc. Bucket list... :yes:

Greg I finally figured out why you don't want to come here - you're in one of the few places in the 48 states that isn't roasting. :P You gonna hide in the corner all summer?! :lol:
