Give it a chance. They are cute when they are young.

Ron, I think we will keep the NOMARO name that I started with. Kenny said we should of named it CAMOVA which would of also been good.

Time to get going on this:buttkick:

Ouch! ;) Am I the only one that wishes you would've hacked up a Nova rather than a Ventura? There are plenty of Novas out there to play with but the Omegas, Venturas and Apollos are getting more rare. I currently own 2 Novas and would love to have one of each of the "X-men" but the rarity of the others, especially ones that have good parts you can't buy like front clip parts, makes it tough to to find decent project cars for a working man's price.

Either way, plenty of Camaros and other "more desirable" cars have been hacked over the years in effort to create something unique and cool. Look at all the old school cars that were once nice classics that got turned into rolling custom sculptures. I say who cares what shape the donor was in, the end result, if it is anything like the rendering, will be cool enough to stand out and be something timeless. Better to start with a clean body anyway, less body work to do outside of the face lift. That's a plus and a smart choice as far as time and cost is concerned, right?

OOCustoms 10-12-2013 06:02 PM

Well I think this project is awesome! Im glad someone was thinking outside the box. I cant wait to see the final product! Maybe the original artist should draw a Camaro with a Nova front end......Im sure the purists would have a heart attack over that idea!

R.A.D 10-13-2013 05:37 AM

So who will build the MUSTRICK or is it MAVERANG?

Ed.Capen 10-14-2013 07:37 AM

Sorry for no updates lately. With the Goodguys events in full swing and the Goodguys Texas Road tour eating up most of my time I have not been able to get things moving on this project.

Working on figuring out the Camaro quarter to the tail section as the body line is to low for the break in the tail section, may have to move the rear bumper up some to make the body line right to the top of it which would make the tail lights shorter or require the Camaro tail light to be installed.

SEMA is taking up most of my time with four cars going this year and all the figuring to get them to and from. Look for the Goodguys G/RS 69 Camaro in the Goodguys booth, The Goodguys 2014 Chevy Crew ASV (AutoCross Support Vehicle) to be in McGaughy's booth, Our Ford Focus ST Rally Car to be in the Ford Racing booth and the Goodguys 32 Tribute Sedan to be in the main haul by the Ford Booth.

Also the Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout is a big project that I am heading and it is taking up sometime.

Look for more updates later in November.
Stay Tune, ED

killer combo keep up the good work

lesstutrey 10-27-2013 04:10 PM

I'd never seen this thread before. Never even heard someone say nomaro outside of my shop.. but i'm building one.:innocent: VERY DIFFERENT one.. but a nomaro none the less. 1970 camaro rear, 69 camaro grill and valance, on to a nova. We're done with major fab work. Sorry i don't have better pictures but let me show you where we are at with our nomaro... which retains more traits of the nova and doesn't just look like a wanna be camaro (sorry, with the header panel you did it looks too much like a camaro.

Front, mostly done: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...03659690_o.jpg
Rear.. sorta done: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...86037303_o.jpg
And we're cutting in paint now.. major fabrication is done.. we're cutting things in so here's an idea of what color will look like:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...97388250_n.jpg
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...21254633_n.jpg

So just to let you know there is another nomaro out there!

jarhead 10-27-2013 06:05 PM

very cool lesstutrey !

aidanfancystang 11-25-2013 06:58 AM

any updates? I am strangely curious about this one.:peepwall:

Ed.Capen 12-05-2013 04:47 PM

Sorry it has been awhile, work gets busy this time of year.

Here is a few shots of the Nomaro Quarter Extension that was made to continue the body line to the rear of the car.

Enjoy. Ed

I will add more as we progress.

syborg tt 12-06-2013 12:06 PM

that looks great

WSSix 12-06-2013 05:30 PM

Glad to see some progress on this.

Ed.Capen 12-10-2013 08:43 AM

Well a little more work on the Nomaro project this past week. The quarter is all one piece now and ready to install. We had to add to the front and back of the 69 Camaro quarter to make it fit the Nova lenght. As you can see we also had to install a Camaro inner fender as the Nova one was lower than the Camaro on the outside edge.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps78e12ba1.jpg

Here is the Quarter on the car with it lined up to the door.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1a3635ca.jpg

You can see how we were able to leave the rear section of the Nova and make the body line work with the Camaro.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2d3706a2.jpg

Here you can see the little piece we added to the rear window area to make it line up with the door edge as the door on the Nova is just slightly shorter. This piece added to the window area will just cover the glass by about 1/2 inch. Much less work than sectioning the door...

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0e5524f3.jpg

Here is a look to see one side together with the front end and the door lined up. Starting to look like the car in the rendition...

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ab36003.jpg

Now we can work the other side and then off to body work and paint.
Ed

Blake Foster 12-10-2013 08:48 AM

Wouldn't it have been easier to just put a Nova Roof on a Camaro?

Chassisworks 12-10-2013 10:28 AM

I'm not 100% sold but I'm happy to see you going outside the box, Ed! The rendering is pretty cool.

Blake, With the front end bolting right on the Nova and the door-window frames needed to be there and post or it would look like a Camaro we figured this was the best way. Not sure but this is the way we went..

I have all the Speedtech Suspension parts all ready for install and the LT4 engine.

Hey glad you like the NOMARO,,,it is off the wall different but I like that, I am the guy that has a 66 Ford Truck with a Starliner backend...weird but cool.

Enjoy that Camaro it turned out great,, Kenny did a killer job.

I like the rendering and it metal work is looking good.

zo6s10 12-10-2013 06:04 PM

No disrespect...
Poor Nova. Now it's gonna have an identity crisis at the car shows. I honestly feel bad for the Nova. It was just raped by it's older brother. I'm not a "1st gen" fan or a "Nova" fan first ,like trucks. Sorry man, this should be called project inbred IMHO. Not trying to be a jerk, just can't see it working.

Maybe end result will change my mind. Good luck, and keep up the great fab!!

syborg tt 12-11-2013 08:38 AM

Thanks Ed I really appreciate the compliments on the car. There were a ton of great shops that worked on the car including me and my neighbors kids.

ps- wait till you see what Kenny and I do on the 62 Bel Air Flat roof that I just acquired from him. I have some crazy idea's going on in my head for this project.

Well the LT4 is out of a corvette and has been rebuilt. I am going to do a direct port injection on the carb type manifold and run an air valve so I can put the stock cowl type air cleaner on the car. This will give it a stock look with the valve covers off a 69 Z28 and the block painted orange. The goal is to make this car look like it came from GM back then but with modern suspension and electronics to make the drive more comfortable.

Here is the Direct Port Injection.

Thanks for the interest in the project, more pictures coming soon.
Ed

WSSix 12-12-2013 05:32 PM

Ed can you give me some more details on that intake? I wasn't aware anyone was making a direct port carb style intake for LT motors. That could really work well with my TA.

The Nova is coming together nicely. You guys are doing a great job of blending it all together.

Trey,
If you go to www.azspeed-marine.com you can call and they do the direct port on the LT1 GM carb manifold. They use the FAST throttle body and wiring. The manifold is still offered from GM Performance Parts and they just make the fuel rails and drill the holes for the injectors.

I have used this before on a 69 Camaro I built that was on the cover of Chevy Rumble Magazine December 2001.
Here is a very bad picture of what it looked like from the magazine.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps311532a1.jpg

Hope that helps.

Wow Chevy Rumple - that's an old magazine. I didn't think you were as old as me.

Ed.Capen 12-30-2013 02:49 PM

work on the quarter

Here is some updated pictures of the quarter and the work progress.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5755812a.jpg
As you can see the inner wheel housing is all in and welded.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps02a7fc6b.jpg
Now we primmed the inner parts.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7631c552.jpg

Working on the door skin and then we can weld this all up.

Ed.Capen 12-30-2013 03:09 PM

Here is the work on getting the door skin to match up to the Nova door.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps270719e5.jpg
As you can see the back upper section is off so a piece has to be made to fill it.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps17866340.jpg
The point of the Camaro door skin has a spot left that has to be filled.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pseab174bf.jpg
This is what it looks like before the piece goes in and the edges are folded over.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps56964d8e.jpg
This is the upper section at the top of the door.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1398f219.jpg
Here is the new piece welded into the front of the door where the point was.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pscf23e5cd.jpg

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6c8f6488.jpg
Here is the back section with the new piece welded in.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps44112382.jpg
Here is the top of the door with the new piece weled in.

Now the door is complete and ready to go back on the car. We will be installing one piece side glass to do away with the wing windows that the car had. We will get the quarter weled on now that the door is done and then do the other side. Little work on the bumpers to tuck them in and then off to paint.:headspin:

enjoy. Ed

Chassisworks 12-30-2013 05:57 PM

I'm getting into this build.

Ed.Capen 01-02-2014 09:54 AM

Carl and Ben,
I will get more pictures up soon. Glad you like the project and how it is coming. Working on the LT1 motor to get it all ready with the tranny.

Ed

kuchinski70 01-02-2014 02:21 PM

I'm a owner of a 70 Nova... not bothered at all by this build. The rendering looks awesome... looking forward to seeing it finished. Good luck with the remainder of the project.

Ed.Capen 01-06-2014 03:26 PM

Well here is the quarter all welded on the NOMARO...

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps612dae92.jpg

Some light sanding left and we will see how it looks.

Ed.Capen 01-06-2014 03:46 PM

Here it is outside so you can see the whole car and now how this has all come together.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psd01fa1e5.jpg

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pscdfcf9f6.jpg

This side shot really shows how this is turning out.

Here is the back shot to show how the tail lights will look.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps58b52f6c.jpg

Down the side of the car.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pse16f7ce2.jpg
