Looks like a fun time! Hey I recognized Greg :D

We have a whole year -- and it wouldn't take much to make this a little easier. People were hungry - and were leaving etc to get something to eat -- or we were eating really late etc.

Personally I hated to leave but I was so hungry I finally just had to go!

 :lateral:

Can anyone say "high maintenance" ?

That's somewhat of a contradiction......... :D

Regarding the Lat-G get together, how many people attended?

How many had rooms at the get together hotel?

How many vendors attendance?

We ate there before coming over to the party. It was good but some may find it pricey. They had a nacho platter, the Mayan Pyramid, it was taller than Greg so 4 or 5 of them would have curbed any appetite issues that anyone may have had.

sorry man. This was something that Mark had started and was always informal. Never thought of making it more than it was. When we did the parties at Sandlins we did a lot of planning and it was a ton of work, but never considered this as anything like that.

I always thought it was an informal gathering where people could see old friends, and meet people they post with and put a face to the name. We do the same thing at SEMA, Power Tour, etc.

I guess we could turn it into more of a dinner type deal.

I like the casual get together. I suppose a back yard BBQ atmosphere would be nice. The question is really more of a where than anything.

Is there a meeting room at the hotel that could be used for the evening set up with a light buffet and wet bar with a couple servers? Negotiate a Lat-G group rate for rooms and the meeting room? Just a thought.

We'll definitely check into it for next year, but as Mark said they're probably going to want $5K or more (200 people X $25 each), so we'd need a commitment from a bunch of people to be there, with payment in advance.

Maybe we could setup some burn barrels to BBQ on in a vacant lot. A huge B.Y.O. type of event. If the cops show up.....we all just run for it.

Never hurts to ask well in advance. There may be vendor's that can't afford a SEMA space willing to help sponsor also.

I'd say keep it more of an informal thing. I unfortunately didn't make it to this Lat-g thing as a friend and I got into the beers at the other end of the strip, but this was my first year at SEMA, as well as my first year at the Pro-touring dinner. As cool as the dinner was to to the famous faces in person, other than a short mingling in hotel lobby before the dinner started, it seemed pretty difficult to meet/introduce to new people. I'd say about 90% of the tables were reserved for the big companies and shops and everyone sat in their own groups, exchanging inside jokes etc. As an outsider, I think an informal walk-around/beer drink/****-shoot bar thing would be way cooler.. regret not making the Lat-g one this year but definitely want to make it to next year's.

Just my $0.02

Spiffav8 11-04-2012 06:12 PM

How's about we do it up DFRESH style and have a Taco truck show up?

GregWeld 11-04-2012 07:11 PM

I wasn't promoting a fancy shindig..... I was just saying that it would have been nice to be able to get a drink without a line up at the bar --- so a SIMPLE phone call to warn them about our little get together a week in advance should get us a waitress or maybe two....

The place is fine as far as I'm concerned. It's central - it works....

Jody -- you and I can email about next year.

I was more trying to PING someone - either you or a mod - that if someone was on it from LAT G -- to get the bar "private" for the night - or add a cocktail waitress etc. This is has been done now for 3 years or so. It's a LAT G event... take the ball and run with it a little.

I understand what you're saying, but this was not something started by us, it was started by Mark. I appreciate him doing that. But I never felt we should step in and take it over, it was not our deal. I had not even considered and had no knowledge that Mark was pre-warning them that we were coming or I would have done it.

Maybe we could find a place that had drinks and food, and would WANT us there, instead of trying to get a minimum amount of money to have us show up, where they would then make a lot more money. ;) Seems to me there has to be places that would love to have 100+ customers showing up to eat and drink for several hours.

GregWeld 11-04-2012 09:18 PM

Agree with you there Jody!

It just would be nice if there was some service and some food AVAILABLE to purchase for those that would want to take advantage of that.... that way a group could sit down BS - eat - have a couple beers or whatever.... and not have to be starving and STANDING after standing all day.

ironworks 11-05-2012 05:55 AM

I agree the low key setting is nice. I would skip it if it was a formal dinner.

Maybe if we could find a better restaurant/Bar it might be little better. But I almost think we could just order some pizza to be delivered to Sin City and achieve the same result.

The Johnny rockets in the Flamingo is crazy expensive. I paid 32 bucks for 2 cheeseburger combos.

Curtis, only if the Taco truck gets a good pro-touring treatment :)

I like the pizza idea! That would be perfect. I'd personally chip in $250 for some pizzas. Then add a waitress and it would be all great!

bigtyme1 11-05-2012 04:47 PM

Ill look into it for next year, the main reason I took over is because we had to stop the big party at Sanders and people still wanted a gathering. Ill do some home work for next year and ill make sure we keep it going

Jody, if you want to get togethor on this let me know, if not I will handle

I'm happy to help in whatever way you need Mark, let me know. Just didn't want to take over something that I wasn't running. And I definitely don't want to get scolded by Greg again............

I didn't mean to scold anyone....:unibrow: My comments were meant to try to get a MINOR IMPROVEMENT in what is a great - easy - fun event. I agree with Rodger - we don't need or want a formal deal.... but after a very long couple of days of walking - people are hungry - they're thirsty - and they want to be able to meet and greet folks that they've been waiting to see in person for a year or more. It just would be nice if people didn't have to leave or leave early. A few pizzas and some faster easier beverage refills would fit the bill perfectly.

My offer stands and I could be persuaded to double it if we need it. If they (SIN CITY) are willing and able -- all we need is some more seating (brought in from the outside patio or?) and a continuous flow of hot pizza... and a way to know/see names so we can identify who's who. A name tag would also keep non Lat G people from scarfing our pizza (just a thought)? I hate those things (name tags) but it would really help in a group this big.

Greg,

I wouldn't call it a scolding. It's obviously something that everyone has been thinking about and wanting. It needs to be addressed. Our community has a lot of great people and part of the reason we all go to SEMA is to meet up. As a member I would love to see a bit more done so we can enjoy a nice evening together and I'll do whatever I can to support that. I like that Mark started this and if he wants to keep after it, then I'll back him up, which is what I see you doing. Let's keep the ideas flowing and see what we can come up with.

:captain:

69MyWay 11-06-2012 09:20 AM

Sorry I missed this - went to SEMA for the first time this year. It was amazing! Over 1,200 photos...and my feet are still sore from walking.
