I first saw Tom Gloys car this summer at Brizios and then again at the LA Roadsters show.... and two things got me - the wheels and the Sid Chavers in terror. It's not Sids usual "hot rod" tuck and roll.... and the wheels are BIG but they're NARROW... The billet part is just how they had to make them. The one thing I still struggle with on the '32 is the wheels... most of these guys only make a big WIDE wheels and that really is a problem on these little cars.

Greg,

All kidding aside, the wheel fits the understated vibe you and da Roymaster are going to end up with.

I was trying to be "respectful" of his one off wheels and not "flaunt" my blatant copying..... er I mean - tribute.

Jeff-

Geez Jeff -- I was so busy posting using my newly discovered talent of multi quotes that I missed a response to you! Shame on me! Won't happen again...

I had looked at Toms car at Brizio's during construction and kinda just shrugged my shoulders in a "okay - another nice little '32" - ho hum kinda way.... then when it was outside parked next to other '32's that had driven down with Brizio to the LA Roadsters show -- THAT is when I saw how low it was -- how clean it was - the super nice 8 stacks - and the very different Chavers interior. Then I fell in love with it! :hail: If you just glance - you miss all the details!

You were subtle, I sledgehammered it. :_paranoid

It's cool to see the look that your going for, and then also on this site, Bret's Ridetech coupe, two '33's opposite ends of the spectrum.

RECOVERY ROOM 01-13-2013 06:55 PM

Bout time you built something cool..LOL. Those are great looking cars, Love the hi boy look also. Brizio has been a top notch builder for a long time good choice, One of the best in the Business

Bret drives that car really well -- and of course it's a "track car".... I just want to be able to get to the grocery store and back.

Truth be told - if the '32 had a drop top and windows -- I wouldn't be building this one.... but I like driving the little '32 so much - I want something I can actually go somewhere in.

Thanks buddy! You know Sid is his boy or it'd be coming to you. I just have to get him to do something other than 2" tuck and roll.... and if you look at the Tom Gloy car -- I know he can do something for me that I'll be happy with.

By the way -- have you used MB Tex? They did a 56 in MB Tex and it seemed really nice to me and is cleanable etc... just talking out loud here.
XOXO

You bring up a point that a lot of people can't figure out.... and there's a very simple answer to it.

I've spent the last 30 some years restoring or building cars...and the last 40 messing with them in some form or another. My kids are grown and gone - my wife has now retired for the second time. So while I was free to spend all day in the shed - I now have a travel schedule to keep (my wife loves to go!)... and I've turned my attention to using my shed and skills to help my less fortunate friends do some smaller projects that they can't do on their own. At this stage in my life - I want to be able to travel and do some of the stuff that retired people at my age get to do. If you factored that time into the time it takes to build a quality "anything" - that would be triple the time allotted. In other words - it would never be finished. And even if it was finished - it wouldn't be to the level of a Brizio etc. So what was once a fun hobby of "doing" has now been modified to doing LESS and enjoying a different version. I have a bucket list of shows I've always wanted to go to... and with the new rig I can do ALL of them. So this is stage 4 in life stages. I figure I have a good 10+ years to get 'er all in before stage 5 settles in.

Oh -- and I just swapped the Nomad to my buddies garage so I could bring his '56 BelAir in the shed for a few tweaks and mods... and a motor swap (a new 496). So how could I have time for MY cars when I'm working on someone else's! Isn't that what a guy is supposed to do - pay someone to work on his car so he has some free time to work on someone else's?

This is what is getting a new 496.

Greg,

You don't see near as many 56's as 55's & 57's it seems. So nice to see one cuz there are some cool styling touches on those cars.

BTW-what's going on with the current motor in it?

Swain 01-14-2013 10:19 AM

We are making some one off wheels right now for Jerry Magnuson, pin drive knock off type.

It took my buddy Pierre AKA Frenchy -- 10 years to build this car... and at the time he bought a "mild" 460 (bored 454)... well... let's just say this motor ain't what it's supposed to be. Super low compression - non performance iron heads - oil burner... and all around just not fitting of the surroundings in which it sits. So a new 496 cubic inch Brodix aluminum headed torque monster was built to take it's place.

Thanks Tracy! I don't know what materials I'm going to use... I'm leaning to real leather "just because" - but we'll have lots of discussions about this choice when the time comes.

We're showing our age. A '55 was what we drove in high school. You could buy a real nice one for $500 to $750!! We only dreamed of even SEEING a '69 Camaro! Actually -- in high school -- the HOT car was a '69 Road Runner! But tri-fives are special.
