Very nice! If this is a thrift shop build, I'm gonna have to rename mine to Scrap Pile build! Although I do have a SuperT10 from Dave Marcis' old cup car.

Its funny Greg, 80% of my customers are from the Jewish community, and they love Ron Swartz. If I correct them, and they find out it's Schwarz, and German instead of Jewish, they look at me like I'm Satan. So I go by Swartz, Schwartz, it really makes no difference. Most people think Jeff Schwartz and I are related, but we're not.

Well if I had any class I'd have looked it up to get it right --- but I had a busy morning and didn't take the time.

I thee dub you "SCWHARZTIKA" <for all your Jewish friends!>

Been away for a few days

Got to attend a private track day at Charlotte Motor Speedway and they had the road course set up. Basically you turn into the infield just before turn 1, run the infield and back on the track about mid-turn 1. On the speedway all the way around until your turn back in at the start of turn 1. I brought Peter along and he let me take a few laps in his 69 since I have no car. On Goodyear R1's, full DSE suspension and 632 ci NELSON big block. Need to get my car done asap. His car was a rocket.

Jim, good to see you are still around and will look you up if I am down that way.

Still need to locate me a Jerico

GW, love your little mustang. After driving on those slicks it is almost silly to go back to street tires, but I don't have to tell you that.

BBC71Nova 04-11-2013 12:53 PM

So how did that BBC handle? IIRC that's an iron Big M block and they are tanks. I've been toying around with the idea of an aluminum BBC to keep the frontend weight down myself. Honestly it is cost prohibitive though so it is nice to hear another car is working nice with a motor at least as heavy as what I'll likely end up with. Although, I don't have the DSE frontend either...

Payton King 04-11-2013 01:45 PM

The car weighs

3900 lbs so she is a little chubby, but suprisingly well. It was not being pushed to the limits as it is not my car.

Slicks are like crack and may have been masking the weight, but the car was well ballanced. The track fast with really no tight turns, I may feel different track or autocross.

Beach Cruiser 04-11-2013 06:30 PM

Wow, sounds like a ton of fun! Wish I lived in car la la land! but I did get to send my son to race car school at UNCC. Are you going to the detroit speed slam at CMP? I'll be there in one car or the other. We met at Jake's hauler at VIR a couple years ago if you remember.

Payton King 04-12-2013 06:24 AM

I do remember you

and yes I will be at the Southern Slam just hanging out and watching the action.

Picked up this block

from a dirt track guy in CA. Was going to use it as a back up motor and never did anything with it. It is used, got it for about 1/3 cost of new. Brodix aluminum block that has been lightened.

You can find lots

of stuff on www.racingjunk.com That is where I got this block.

Payton between you

And Dave there's probably nothing good left on there! Definitely love the direction your going, Keep it up:thumbsup:

Chubby!!

My car, which does not have a name, sorry Payton.... was highly insulted by the chubby comment. Luxury, plump is fine.. Beauty, driving and speed balance is reasonable...

snappytravis 04-16-2013 09:21 PM

Looking good Payton, that frame is one sweet piece, can't wait to see when they start on the body, low and wide, will be killer!

Southern slam

Nice to meet you this weekend Payton, and listen to Ron tell stories of course :lmao:
Hope you had a safe trip back home.

dinos67's 04-23-2013 04:47 PM

really like the direction you are moving in this build is going to be a nice one:thumbsup:

Payton King 05-03-2013 06:40 AM

Good to see you too Aaron

Been crazy busy with going to the Southern Slam in Kershaw and trying to wrap up both of my boys soccer season that will never end.

Ed, the engine builder, has been slowly coming up more and more great scores. He found a set of 6.2 Pankl rods with just a couple of dyno pulls on them. Apparently Roush was doing some rod/stoke testing and made 3 pulls, changed the combination and like what they found. He also found the fittings we need to use with the oil pan I picked up.

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...ps11db95ce.jpg

These rods have a hole laser drilled up the center to oil the wrist pin. The dry sumps were pulling so much vaccum that is was sucking the oil out of the wrist pin and causing motors to blow up.

GregWeld 05-03-2013 06:46 AM

Nice block there mister!!! I have block envy now.... Holy cow.

Payton King 05-03-2013 07:17 AM

Thanks Greg

wait till you see my oil pan...top notch fab work.

Payton King 05-03-2013 07:34 AM

Oil Pan

Here is the oil pan that I picked up from Hendrick. Left over Busch Grand National pan that was never used with piston squirters.

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psf98ff028.jpg

90 degree fitting on the front of the pan is for the piston squirters

Now if that's not Pro Touring -- I don't know what else is! HAHAHAHAHA

Ron in SoCal 05-03-2013 08:05 AM

^ I want one. Garage art :D

fleet 05-03-2013 08:29 AM

Wowł!!!

Like the old saying goes... "If it's good enough for pro-touring, it's good enough for NASCAR."

:D

Payton King 05-03-2013 08:38 AM

The "pro" part of pro touring

may apply, not sure about the touring though...

That pan probably weighs about 25 lbs. They make them thick so they do not get sucked in by pump. When those pans were new and they were running SB2 motors they were about $2100. I got it for $450 with fittings, instruction sheet, gaskets.

I hear you on the garage art. I have almost bought used parts that I would never use just for that very thing.

GrabberGT 05-03-2013 09:04 AM

Is there any concern about the pick-ups being all on the same side or does the dry-sump nullify that issue. I take it you plan to turn in more than 1 direction.

coolwelder62 05-03-2013 09:05 AM

That's cool.Fill it full of ranch dressing for dip bowl.

Payton King 05-03-2013 09:43 AM

Rotation

of the crank throws oil to that side of the pan...why the pick ups are on the right. Have a 5 gallon tank that will have about 3.5 gallons of oil in it. Motor gets oil supply from tank not from pan, so it will not starve in right hand corners....I asked the same question when I bought it.

Thanks. Theres always something new to learn.

57hemicuda 05-03-2013 01:15 PM

That would make a nice desk fountain for adult beverages. Still can't get over how the aero/space industry is alive and well in the car world, that is some cutting edge stuff. I want one.

IM in for some hot wings, chips and dip. Anyone for some Pro-touring themed cutlery? :relax:

:wow: Nice stuff ya got there.

Like you said above some of those NASCAR 6 stage pumps create enough vacuum to dry out your bearings so what side the pick up is on kinda doesn't matter.

Before I dyno'd my dinosaur Dailey said to limit my vacuum to 12 or under in the crankcase to eliminate the possibility of drying the bearings.

With that rod set up how much vacuum does Ed think you can safely pull in the crankcase? What kind of ring package is he going to use to max the hp with the vacuum?

Are you going all in with spring oilers in the VCs also?

waynieZ 05-03-2013 09:05 PM

Those are some amazing parts. kinda sexy too!

snappytravis 05-04-2013 12:34 PM

Sweet pan, gaining one piece at a time, looks good buddy!

Payton King 05-06-2013 07:16 AM

Ring package

.043, .043, 3.0. Gold top, Napier second, Stainless Steel third. Total Seal. A solid 20 inches of vacuum...quote per Ed

I will be running a 5 stage pump and yes I am doing the valve covers with the spring oilers.

GregWeld 05-06-2013 07:22 AM

Man oh man..... I have peni....... er I mean motor envy!

Payton King 05-06-2013 07:35 AM

Funny you should say that Greg

Ed is a big Ford guy since he worked for Roush and actually thinks the Ford D3 motor is a little better than the SB2 due to the exhaust port. He has 3 or 4 sets of heads in his shop now...that D3 would be perfect for that little yellow mustang.

57hemicuda 05-06-2013 08:46 AM

Or a big blue one.LOL
