Looks good.
I know this particular build is a convertible, but often see you and other builders smoothing out the cowls and getting rid of fresh air. I also see most of the Vintage Air A/C setups that don't use OEM design only pull interior air. It has been my experience that while that is great for hot days when you need maximum cooling and drying, having no fresh air into the cabin makes it kind of stale and also makes defrost more difficult (although of course you have the A/C helping). Is this a bit of a sacrifice for looks or is it a total non-issue to have no fresh air source for the interior when you have A/C ? |

Just amazing! Every tweak and mod compliments the next.

Picking up where we left off, attention turned to the way the glass will be mounted and the side vents. For a cleaner, contemporary look, we will be eliminating the vent function and installing a fixed side piece.

That rim around the top's edges is just killer. It really finishes off that border and the swept lines and curves match the quarter's radii. Really nice job guys. wow

That's so hot! I'd dreamed about doing a custom center console in my '96 Caprice before it was totaled but never got around to it.
Gonna re-read this entire thread after work tonight! |

I was just looking at this on your website the other day. How did you mold the tail light lenses?
If I know your timeline, car in probably going to make Columbus for SMOTY. |

Final front end 3d work up for the headlight assembly look and grille. The full array of machinable front end parts and pieces come from this model.
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8633/...edc057ab_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7576/...986fa3fc_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7503/...23f7828b_b.jpg Machined headlight plates mount behind the front opening and house the fully adjustable high and low beams and the l.e.d. They will also be getting pocketed on the front side to pick up a grille pattern which will further reduce weight. We ended up cutting the weight by about 6lbs! https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5615/...94c44027_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5612/...a07ff98a_b.jpg We also began machining the main grille surround and insert bars. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5607/...7c5b4b56_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5611/...fa878f5d_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5602/...c06eacd4_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7510/...e5cafdd0_b.jpg Insert detail bars https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7569/...d5d6527a_b.jpg |
The level of these builds are becoming more and more like concept cars. Great job and thanks for the pictures. Keep them coming! :king:

Loving those gauges!

Unbelievable craftsmanship.

Some more MaliciouSS build pics! (apologies if this jumps around a little, there was a lot going on simultaneously)
Having planned on the car being a silver/pewter/gray color for the entire build, we did (for the 2nd time this SEMA) a pretty big 180 on the color. With the level of bodywork and detail on the car, we all agreed it should really be black. It would highlight the extensive mods to the front and rear, while working well with the interior grays/charcoals. Just overall a sharp, clean look. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7529/...8bfb25fa_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7494/...6bca3016_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8632/...283539fd_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8580/...cf295daa_b.jpg Chassis assembly with our billet a-arms and spindles: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7538/...be5343b1_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7471/...7deff498_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8601/...8d402691_b.jpg Tail panel install https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8618/...f5207cd9_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7473/...8f1e1c2b_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7514/...f6f3fb3e_b.jpg Bumpers https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8629/...770e6253_b.jpg |
With the front sheetmetal now being assembled, we could final fit the headlight bezels and template for the grille mesh pattern behind the grille to be machined on the headlight plates and get cut for the 'mesh' part of the grille. This was tricky as the pattern had to continue from the open grille and pick up perfectly on the plates without the pattern having a seam or break.
The final result: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7576/...5af8371a_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8611/...7326e8b4_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7560/...1a1215e1_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7504/...a8ab7b11_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7487/...db7a5a88_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8655/...a6ae3c56_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7497/...9391af36_b.jpg |
I absolutely love the rear, very concept car like. Front I am still getting use to. I saw it at SEMA, and quality was incredible as with all your other builds.

Concept for the steering wheel. Clean and contemporary with a classic 3 spoke style. We really wanted a nice depth to the body and 'thickness' to the grip.
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7575/...25a62ff2_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7471/...5bdaf99d_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7542/...dbcaf498_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7514/...3b513371_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8646/...ffdb8faf_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7567/...89271235_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7556/...1479ce57_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8615/...0476c0bd_b.jpg These slim, curved pieces or the 'banannas', are the inner inserts which will get wrapped with leather. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7506/...cd67eb57_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7481/...f855f415_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7491/...565a94a7_b.jpg Outer ring: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7488/...6510c19c_b.jpg Wrapped: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8574/...48ea20fb_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7522/...7ebc881f_b.jpg |
Amazing. Love your builds.
That steering wheel is awesome. You guys are at the top of your game for sure. |
Incredible build! If I am ever stinking rich, I promise you guys will be building a car for me!
How are the "bananas" and outer ring held onto the steering wheel? |
Quote:
The outer (full ring) is attached with hidden hardware to the main hoop of the wheel. The 3 inner pieces are then bonded on covering the hardware to the outer. For the pic you see above they were just resting on there. For the final assembly, the bonded surfaces were left unwrapped and unpainted. Required a some accuracy and detail to make it all work but the result with no visible hardware or seams anywhere on the leather was pretty cool. |

I should add, I have the car planned out in my head, it's just the money I don't yet have! LOL |
This is some amazing stuff. Keep up the great work guys.
