I have been ordering parts and prepping the underside to receive the QuickPerfomance 9". I bought a Eaton trutrac with 31 spines and new axles. I also bought a new gas tank, mine leaked and had more patches than Joseph's coat of many colors.

My neighbor TIG'd in the new Moser fill bung and the Currie drain bung, after i cleaned up the housing that appears to have been submerged in the Titanic.

I need to do a quick sand job on the inside of the trunk and spray it while I spray the underside of the car.

I think Dr Frankenstein hacked the old perches off with a smoke stick and moved them over a tad, I cleaned up the mess. I will fix it when I 4-link it.

That scoop looks surprisingly familiar...

Rick D 09-20-2014 06:48 AM

Nice progress Joe!!

torino420 09-20-2014 08:40 AM

Great work Joe! How do you like that front suspension?

GregWeld 09-20-2014 09:05 AM

Joe,

As long as you get this altogether before ROB... I'm a happy guy! It's really satisfying to see stuff turn out well isn't it?!? The comparison pic of the rear end before and after is "WOW". Nice filler addition too!

jarhead 09-22-2014 07:59 AM

Thanks guys :)

Rob, I took my wife for a ride in it yesterday and as soon as we got back I remembered the video that I forgot. It was getting dark and I still dont have the headlights installed.

Jason it rides real nice, sits real low, one of those big a$$ tires on the right front rubs when I turn too sharp.

Here is the mod I finished yesterday in preperation for the scoop, and I got rid of the cheap chrome valve covers.

jarhead 09-25-2014 08:52 PM

Deciding on a location for the Cyclone scoop, and prepping it. It was boogered up and needed glass in the corners, and holes filled.

Had to cut a hole in the hood a few inches smaller than the seal.

I made a tunnel cover out of fiberglass for the TKO since I am not so good on the "english wheel" :lmao:

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps2e4a44d9.jpg

Has some more cleanup work and it will be ready to go

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psc9a38442.jpg

Started working on the Ram Air inlet modifications to the inside of the hood. I had to cut out some bracing, form a ring from 18 gauge, weld it back in to strengthen the bracing, etc.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps3ea6985c.jpg

Working on the outside of the hood now,it was dented up, and fixing the glass on the Cyclone scoop.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pse88ba75a.jpg

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pse20fe749.jpg

An took it out for a test drive, don't have enough miles on the TKO to do an all out "smoke the tires" burn out, but was able to do a rolling burnout, and chirp second!

Wheels and Tires....

Got a MINT set of these from Dave (nopants68) for Kasey's 63 and she snubbed her nose at them. I was like they would be cool on your car, she said no thanks, so I am putting them on mine.

Need some steelies, but can only find these...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wv...2518/overview/

From previous conversation FE Torino said

"In the rear your tire is the same height as my 345 30 19 so it will tuck in and fill your wheel well really nice. FYI without tubs and with about 5.75" to 6" of BS you can fit a 285 tire on the rear of your car with the leaf springs.

Up front the shape of the fender lip makes it difficult to slam the car and get a good turning radius with a wide tire. Typically most tires on the front of the cars you see on here are 25.5" to 26" tall.
With your GW stuff I bet you can drop the front about 2" and still get decent turn radius with a 27" tall tire at 235mm wide, if the BS on the wheels is right. The taller tire will actually tuck up farther in the fender and give a more lowered look.

AND

A 285 fits out back with leaf springs and no tubs I did a 285 17 on teh rear of mine for the first time around. I think a 275 40 18 for the rear and a 255 35/40 18 for the front on 18x10s. That's 25"/26" tall front and 26.5" tall rear. They will fill the wheel wells up. I had a 245 on a 8.5" wheel up front with my shock tower suspension so I'm sure you can fit the 255 as long as the car isn't super slammed.

Currently have 235-60-16

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps50009804.jpg

Going for this look

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps292b435d.jpg

This 68 pictured has 17 x 9's all around. 245/45's up front and 275/40's in the back

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psa0440ab9.jpg

With that said will a 285 fit on a 9" wheel?

I currently have 5" backspace on my Cragar's, and what do I make of this offset calc?

Backspacing (in):5.125 in.
Offset:+3.00mm

Thanks, Joe

Thanks Greg, I am excited. Will see if I can find 18" steelies first.

Probably be a while,I am also trying to work a deal on a 408 W short block.

I just picked up some World Sr. ported heads with 2.02 valves.

Working on a home remodel, Kasey's car, and my Daughter Rachael is getting married at our house in August, lol.

reminds me of the movie "No time for Sargeant's" and my wife is the DI :military: :twak:

Thanks, it keeps evolving:lol:

I bought the aftermarket ram-air from James on the Torino Cobra forum. I bought the lid from Semo Mustang, and a WIX filter. James allows you to delete things you don't need.

He has his own website with different versions. It's a blow molded injection part . I sanded, primed, wet sanded, painted, repeat, rinse, on mine

Just found this build thread Joe. That hood pan is cool as hell! Make me one for my car will ya?! Cars lookin good man, Ron

jarhead 02-23-2015 10:00 PM

Thanks Ron, you need to start a build thread on your car, even though it's virtually done. Unless you are planning even more changes?

I think the guys on here would love it.

jarhead 07-01-2015 07:35 AM

Well last week I plunked down a large down payment to get my motor built.

After weeks of surfing, asking questions, etc I decided on a Fordstrokers.COM

427 Dart SHP block

4.125 bore X 4.0 stroke

Specs are here

http://www.fordstrokers.com/dart-bas...-shortblocks-/

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps9zzus3oi.jpg

Going to run a Horsepower Innovation e85 Holley, about 12:1 compression. e85 is plentiful here.

A Super Victor if it will fit under my hood.

Jim Wood is known for doing only 302/351W based motors so I am excited.

Shooting for 500+ HP ~ 500 Torque

More to come :flashie:

Joe

Joe

torino420 07-01-2015 03:38 PM

I know the Victor fits but it's tight, how much taller is the super ?

My air cleaner is a dropped based, 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" I forget exactly.

1/2 inch taller...

Will have to measure my Ram Air system, don't recall the drop.

Thanks, Joe

OH, also reading online the intake manifold may need milled to fit the heads/valley? I have sent a query to Jim about that.

Yep he's the man. He did my 950 on my 421 and it was within 2 tenths of where I wanted it with regards to AFR literally out of the box. I'm a believer of his methodology over Mark Sullens 8 days a week. You've made the right choice.

WSSix 07-01-2015 08:24 PM

Nice power goals, Joe. I'm shooting for the same. From experience I can tell you it'll be lots of fun to drive without being too much of a handful.

Hood, scoop, and cowl almost ready for the satin black...

^^^

Well since last time I reported I have been block sanding that hood, filling spots I thought were fixed, priming, and block sanding some more.

Almost there is a relative term :bigun2:

Joe

jarhead 07-24-2015 06:56 PM

Sprayed a few parts today, first time with paint other than primer.

My urethane satin black came out glossy :headscratch: , and I had some orange peel.

More painting tomorrow, more practice, and most likely wet sanding :hairpullout:
