You're moving right along.
One word about the Holley drive. The ones I have spaced the belt too far forward of the engine block, making the belt out of alignment with the truck balancer. I had to cut the spacers to make every thing lined up. |

Wow. Love the project! Looks great!

Hate to hear the spacers were rough. My Holley oil pan is a pretty nice piece. |
Project is looking good I like option 2 if you are still deciding on wheels but I don't think you could go wrong either way.
|
Another vote for option 2... :)

The spacers were alright. I'd thought they could have been better. |
Minor update with the front clip on.

The Holley front drive, with accessories, is ready to be installed also. |
Good job! I really like that color.

Paint looks great . . . Nice color selection. Need to read back thru the beginning to catch up on details. Who or where did you have the paint done?
|
Man, car is coming along nicely.
The car looks 100% better than when you first received it. Great job Jason. |

Looking awesome man, great color.
A friend of mine (not a mutual friend AFAIK) just picked up a 67 last week. 67 LS2/T56 swap... marina blue/black interior. I think the dark gray has really won me over though. My 78's motorvation is nearly done, too... |
This wheel in a width like what's pictured is just too sick. #2 for me!!

The heat has been pretty brutal here lately in Houston. My garage is a toasty 102* during the day which is causing me to lose some enthusiasm to go work on the car. However, I've been making progress on a few things.
My brake system should be wrapped up when I receive the new master cylinder from Tobin, at KORE3. I went with new Inline Tube Stainless lines. Everything bolted up correctly. I had to modify the rear axle lines to accommodate the new Wilwood disc brakes but it wasn't bad. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2929/...6bcbe71d_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5561/...05895032_b.jpg DSE (Koni) rear shocks were added. Yesterday, I decided to bolt on the front drive accessories. I went with the Holley brackets and everything lined up pretty well. Everything is complete minus the power steering pulley: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3924/...f82e8e23_b.jpg The radiator is from Superior radiator. Its a very nice unit for the money. Next goal is to get the fuel lines installed, along with the new Aeromotive fuel tank. Forgot to add that I made some cribs for the front wheels. Amazing something so simple makes working on the car so much easier. I intend to build a set for the rear but the HD jack stands will do for now. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3863/...b7dd6cec_b.jpg |
great job so far,car looks great:thumbsup:

Great project for father/son. My dad and grandfather tried to teach me carpentry, but I just kept taking things apart and putting them back together - the lawn mower, bicycle, scooter, etc.. my brother claims that I was adopted since I'm so different from the rest of my family. So I envy you this father/son time. The build is going well. Wondered if you considered the GMPP FAED parts on Jegs or Summitt? They look to be less expensive than the Holly parts. Are you going to add AC to the car? I hope so given the heat/humidity of Houston.
Great to plan to pass the car to your son. I'm thinking as a college graduation present so that you have many years of driving fun with the car before that day. Rod |

The car will not have A/C at first. The Vintage Air setup wasn't included in the budget so that will have to come later. I jokingly told my wife I was not going to put the windshield in until the A/C was installed. My son and/or daughter will take the reigns when they are responsible enough to handle the car and fix whatever breaks. There will be NO high school joy rides for them. I pray to God I have the chance to see them drive it. I chose the Holley setup just because of personal preference. The GMPP setup is nice. I didn't want to purchase a new LS3 crank pulley since I already had the F-body pulley, so the Holley setup worked best for me. Jason |
Good one
Good line about the windshield. I use to joke when I had my 68 many years ago that I had 260 AC. 2 windows open and 60 mph was find on the hot summer days. Any less than 60 and "AC performance" fell off dramatically.
I hear you about your kids and waiting till they can be responsible drivers. My older brother nearly got my parents insurance cancelled in his first year of driving. So I wasn't allow to get mine until I was 18. Unfortunately, that was the year of the big family move to southern Oregon. Since my parents settled 11 miles outside of town, my younger siblings got their licenses at 16. Ah the joys of being special. I'll pray that you see both of them drive the car someday. That will be a great thing for a father. Rod |

Jason!
The work you are doing on the Camaro (with Jayden’s help and your little princess) is awesome! You are putting effort addressing and improving things on the car and it is coming out insane; I LOVE the color! I am glad you continued the project and you are bringing your vision to life through the build. Thank you for the message as well, means a lot and got me motivated to get back on the saddle! Gui |
WOW!! Just got caught up with everything! Man - you're making some great progress on the car! The color looks great! You didn't say what wheels you choose yet - but I vote #2. Everything thus far looks spot on. With all of the research and homework we do building these cars - it is by far the most exciting part of the build seeing it all come together. As stated by many in this thread....the best part is having your son involved. These are memories both of you will never forget and always reflect back on which is priceless!

I'll be on the lookout for wheel options at SEMA this year, as well as some other things. In regards to my kids helping, they are the best helpers a dad can have. Last night, my daughter banged the front of the car with a wrench I asked her to pick up for me, and I just had to smile. I'll look back at that blemish in the paint and remember her handing me the wrench. |
Its been a few months since I've updated this thread.
The car is still a work in progress. The engine has been wired and fired. Thompson did a great job with the motor and everything is running great. Denny's is building a new driveshaft for the car and it should be here soon. My dad came over to give me a hand with setting up the brake system and he is quite a fan of the project: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7485/...5109ae9c_c.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8663/...ec7030aa_c.jpg I had originally wanted a lowback style seat but changed my mind due to safety concerns. I ordered a set of Corbeau A4's for the car. My kids are enjoying them right now: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7545/...ae97c0fc_c.jpg Next up is to get the AAW wiring kit installed and finish the interior. Glass will be installed soon, along with all the trim. Here is a pic of the gauge cluster with the new Autometer gauges: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7575/...fbedd5ca_c.jpg One question for the forum is what headers provide the most ground clearance. I'm running a stock subframe with Dynatech headers. The headers hang extremely low. I'm happy with the position of the motor, so its not an option to change the orientation. Has anyone used Hookers new mid-length header? My concern is the fitment around the 500 gearbox I'm running. Any input will be greatly appreciated. |
Jason,
Before you change out the headers, try flipping the motor mounts around, so that the tabs are at the bottom. There is a picture of the motor mounts for Ridetech Velocity Camaro on pt.com. Rumors had it that Dynatech used Velocity to develop the headers (post 57 in below link). I swapped my mounts around and gained roughly an inch. http://www.pro-touring.com/threads/4...493#post372493 Just a thought, unless you absolutely want a new set of headers. Tu |

Looking good
I like the boss/ridler style wheels myself, but if wide multi-piece wheels are in order..check into BCforged or Avant Garde well

Denny's did a great job with the driveshaft...its a shame it can't be seen:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7460/...483f888c_b.jpg The new backlit Autometer's are pretty rad: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7362/...f738ec0b_b.jpg I was able to drive the car out of the garage under its own power for the first time since I got it. It was dark, so no quality video of the voyage. I'm looking forward to getting this car on the road legally, even if it doesn't have a finished interior. :D |
Just some random shots from this afternoon:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7624/...b6fc117a_h.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8699/...afdb32a4_h.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7589/...3c6abf75_h.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7610/...ad486a68_h.jpg I picked up Tu's (rickpaw) Budniks so I'm anxious to get those installed. Interior is coming along. Glass should be here this week sometime. :D |
Your driveway looks very familiar....you need to do the video when you finish....
