Nice build man, moving at the speed of light also! You're not messing around with getting this one done and on the road. I'm liking the staying on budget thing...those valve covers turned out good. Look forward to seeing more as you move along. Thanks for sharing.
|
Project is moving fast. I'm excited to follow the transformation. Gotta be honest that I thought you were nuts to take the car apart at first but I think its going to be a much better car in the end and a lot more fun. I'm anxious for the comparison ride.

love this build!!!!

Nice build Curtis. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Looking great, Curtis. Glad this one is moving along smoothly for you.
Jeff, can you share more specs on the cam? I'm interested in where it makes its power/torque. Those are good numbers the other car made. Good luck, guys. |

Trey, The cam specs for the cam I installed in Curtis's engine are 226/234 598/601 113+2 LSA Here is a post from Geoff @ EPS on the same cam dyno results, but on a smaller 5.7L w/ cathedral port heads Curtis's is a 6.0L w/ rectangle port heads (flow more cfm and larger intake valves) http://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomete...p-427rwtq.html Here is basically the same as Curtis's engine: http://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomete...226-234-a.html I am running a similar setup in my LS2, w/ LS3 cyl heads my cam I had custom ground by Geoff @ EPS (Engine Power Systems) specs are 226/234 630/629 113+2 LSA ( I had my flat top pistons flycut .100" for proper ptv clearance) |
Thanks, Jeff. Numbers like that make it difficult for me to continue down the LT1 path, lol.
|
Curtis/Jeff, is that RWHP?, i think it may be but didn't see it said anywhere....
|
Rwhp......
You guys are making me feel good, I'm using the same cam in my L76 |

New pics?
Really glad that everything is going so fast, you'll be on the road before SEMA possibly. Would like to see pictures soon of the rear suspension install as I'm curious to see how it fits into the car. What choice for gas tank?
Thanks, Rod |

I hope to have pictures of the rear end install this weekend. Russ has a full time job, so he is working on my car only on the weekends. Worth the wait kinda thing. One of the nice things about the AME rear suspension is that there's room for a stock fuel tank. When it came to the fuel system setup I had a lot of questions!! So I talked to the experts. Carl Casanova at VaporWorx gave a lot of great advise and helped me line out exactly what I needed. I went with the VaporWorxs tank from Ricks. Hector made everything go smooth. Here's what I received from Carl. I can give you a full list of exactly what's there if you'd like. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-jXNR...-jXNRNZt-L.jpg And the tanks from Ricks. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-mbQs...-mbQsqJb-L.jpg |
Just Kidding about SEMA
It would be cool if the car was done for SEMA, but I'm sure that you are more interested in it being done right the first time then getting done for SEMA. Yes, would like the info for the Vapor Works setup. I have that on my build list as a must have item. After reading the builds and thinking it through I think everyone should go that route. Not having a return line simplifies fuel line routing, and minimizes fuel leak issues. Also, quieter fuel pump, easy to upgrade is necessary for increased horsepower.
The welding up of the AME rear suspension is something that needs to be measured twice and cut (weld) once. So you are going to have a great chassis going on the car when done. And stock fuel tank is a worthwhile plus. Any thoughts on exhaust routing yet? Running all the way to the rear or outlet at another location? I think this is going to be a great car when done. Rod |

It's like hitting the Easy Button. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-z2rC...z2rCgK4-XL.jpg |
I like the EASY button
What can I say, I try to know a good idea when I see one. After all the reading I've done on this site, pro-touring.com, ls1tech.com, HOT ROD, Car Craft, Camaro Performers, Super Chevy, Chevrolet High Performance, and a small dose of common sense tells me that Vaporworx is the correct answer to the question - How to have a good fuel tank/fuel pump system that is good for autox (Rick's Tanks with Vaporworx) that can survice E85? I'm amazed at all the people on the West Coast that aren't taking this more seriously. But as my father taught me - To each their own, if they are spending their own money.
I hope the heat hasn't been to bad in Vegas lately, been nice and warm down here at the beach. Rod |

Nice fueling system choice! |
Quick Update. Went by to pick up the rear diff that's off to a new owner this weekend and took a few pictures.
Russ has a small shop in his back yard...which is way cool. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-dPFX...-dPFXdNX-L.jpg Drivers side frame rail is almost 100% out. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-VKd6...-VKd65T6-L.jpg Russ found a rust hole in the inner wheel well while cleaning all the undercoating off. Hope that's the only spot, though I'm not going to hold my breath. At least this part of the tub gets replaced. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-tKQH...-tKQHNwL-L.jpg |
Jeff grabbed some stainless hardware and installed the valve covers I had powder coated. Pretty happy with the end results.

Looks great guys!!!!!

Curtis your moving very fast,Did you order your seats?
|
Man your going to make it look easy to build these cars!! Great progress!!:headspin:

Sure hope your luck holds and that's the only rust spot that you find. It's great that it's where you are replacing the metal anyway. Looks like Russ did a smooth job of removing the welds for the rear frame rails. Upwards and onward.
Engine looking good. Looking forward to when you can post a video clip of it at startup and idling. The valve cover's look as good as the ones Holley is selling for nearly $200, so good for the budget. Great progress to date. Waiting for the next chapter in the saga. Rod |

Can't wait to hear it fire and run for the first time. I was hoping to have it done by Christmas, but we are talking about paint now rather than later. That means 6 months minimum, before I'll have the car back and will be able to start putting it back together. Trying to pick a color for the car is driving me nuts. Everything looks good, but nothing seems right. Ugh. I'll do my best to keep some kind of update going. |

:captain: |
Curtis WOW now your going to paint it?? I thought that was why you bought a complete car?? :poke: not sure of your options for paint out in Vegas but make sure they don't suck you in and keep it for ever!!
Oh and don't forget post pictures :flashie: :D |
Color suggestion
One of the colors I'm considering is Ferrari Rubino Red. Another is Audi's Scuba Blue on the 2014 A3.

Once I had the car blown apart, I realized that it's just way to much work to not paint the car right now. I really don't want to do all that twice. I wanted a running driving PT car, but couldn't find anything that was exactly what I want. When Paul mentioned the 67, the build wheels in my head started turning again. My problem is that I am impatient and can't stand to let things sit for to long. Don't worry, there will be plenty of pictures. Quote:

Curtis those are all good choices,I think I like the bottom color.Good luck with choosing,it's one of the hardest things to do(at least for me).
