Wow I'm jealous. I'm also looking for a good used GM hood. Are there any numbers stamped at the rear drivers corner, fender side ?

I am going to pick up some paint stripper and check that area I have read the other tell tale signs are if the bump stop circles have 3 tack welds In a triangle shape and if the rear corners and kinda cut at a strange angle. This hood has both those if I could find a stamp I would be pumped as those actually came off the assembly line.

Bakaruda 01-08-2017 08:33 PM

Nice, stay on it. You only have one first car.

paulk68 01-09-2017 08:33 AM

thanks guys, so I had a little more time to fit the wheels today and noticed that with the front wheel secured it pops the center cap out. They were built for my baer brake package so i am not sure why they keep popping out the center cap.

It's hard to say definitively, however the rear corners near the hood hinge have me thinking this is a reproduction. An example of the differences can be found here
That being said, being a reproduction is certainly not a bad thing if it fits. I've seen people spend just as much time fitting a NOS hood.

The hood and wheels looks nice. Glad you are making progress. Heading into the best weather too!

wow time goes fast. It has been over a year since my last update. I have been able to make some good progress and found a shop an hour from me that is ok working on it in stages. I was able to get the ridetech 4 link installed and a narrowed mosser 12 bolt installed. and some panels back on for fitment.

Well I felt the need to update this thread. I lost my father on 3/27 (his favorite chevy engine by the way), He was the man that gave me my passion for cars and I am very sorry he will never get to see this car finished. I do know however how proud he was to take his 15 year old son to go buy it and then all the time he took teaching me how to drive the three speed manual. I spent many hours and have countless memories doing car stuff with my dad and know he will be riding with me once it is done. I have since made some more progress and really hope to keep going with it in his memory.

Roscoe03 04-25-2019 06:37 PM

Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. The impact he made on your life and memories together can never be taken from you. Very nice build.

Spiffav8 04-27-2019 10:29 PM

I know there are no words that could ever help you feel better. I wish there where. I hope you and the family are doing as well as possible.

Curtis

waynieZ 04-29-2019 02:59 PM
