Damn I really like those! cha Ching. Those are going to look sweet.

So what oil pan are you using on your TMS stroker motor? I went with one of their forged LS3 motors and kept thinking about the 416 stroker but was worried about getting the right oil pan that wouldn't hang below the subframe. Project looks great and is definitely persuading me to do a few touch ups to the motor when its finally ready to go in. Having the fire wall smoothed at the moment and also going with the Raingear wipers to clean up under the hood.

Hey man. I used an Autokraft oil pan since that is the one that works best with the Speedtech subframes. I haven't actually checked clearance but I hear it tucks up nicely.

The engine looks great! Glad to see progress. Good luck moving forward!

Rybar 07-31-2016 07:31 AM

Nice work, that's going to be a fun street motor for sure.

l2azorback 07-31-2016 08:57 AM

Very nice work! Can't wait to see the finished car. I am curious which push button ignition you are planning on going with. I love the OTRATTW guages.

That is the pushbutton setup I bought.

I bought a ii much fab Airport AC bulkhead but am trying to see what others have done to route AC hoses through the kickpanel area. I want my hoses to be completely hidden so I want to put the bulkhead in the area where the original blower motor would have been.

My concern with cutting through the kickpanel is obviously having issues with water getting into the interior of the car.

Anyone have ideas??

sleepertime 07-31-2016 05:32 PM

Car is looking great...

Wow the car is looking great.
I ran one piece hoses without any bulkhead fittings. They went above the kick panel and then thru an area above where the original fan motor location. Once complete the hoses are not visible at all.
They drop in beside the battery to get to the compressor.
You can see starting around post #119.

So time for an update. I have gotten quite a bit done on the car this month and have more parts on the way. Plan is to get everything mocked up and ready to go to paint for the first of the year. I believe I might make it...

So I ordered and received my T-56 Magnum and got to work on making room. I used the pre-fabricated Speedtech transmission tunnel cover. I made a lsyout by creating a cardboard template then cut out the hole, welded the cover in place and painted/seam sealed the joints. I will have some cleanup to do on the bottom side the next time I put the car in the air but overall I think it came out well.

http://i.imgur.com/LuPgYD1.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/VFOh9lL.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/YWQQHXj.jpg

This of course allowed me to finally wrap up the dynamat in the cabin. You can also see that I made the hole in the trans tunnel/firewall for the PSI conversion harness for my LS3. More to come on the wiring in a bit.

http://i.imgur.com/qAYlgoN.jpg

So obviously I skipped a few steps in getting the transmission bolted up but I picked up a Quicktime Bellhousing as well as a Monster LT1-S cluctch setup. Clutch is good for 700 HP and supposed to retain a fairly stock pedal feel. It has gotten great reviews and came highly recommended from a few friends.

http://i.imgur.com/ge6n2gT.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Qcp9ICh.jpg

Now that the transmission was in place and I was able to locate the penetration location for the engine wiring harness I moved my attention to locating a place for the ECU and fuse panel. I did a very poor job of taking pictures but I fabricated a bracket that piggybacks off of the DSE Vintage Air bracket that bolts up to the bottom of the ECU. I then welded two threaded bungs to the top of the firewall to catch the top side. Its hard to see in pictures but it came out great and is solid as a rock.

SO the PSI harness is very well made and is laid out very nice but I can't leave well enough alone. I will be hiding and re-routing just about every wire in the car so I went ahead and picked up some techflex to replace all of the plastic split loom. I will try to post pictures as I work through this part of the build but it will be a long, tedious process lol.

http://i.imgur.com/Xd0fKln.jpg

My Wegner front drive setup also arrived. The water pump came in just as a stock cast LS2 water pump so I spent a little time with the dremel before painting the water pump. I also pulled the barbs for the heater hoses and tapped those for AN fittings. Last you will see the inlet/outlet are setup with -20 AN fittings to match my Autorad radiator.

http://i.imgur.com/fGsGYDL.jpg

And also some pictures of the front drive system in place. Only thing not installed is the ATI damper and crank pulley but those will be going on soon.

http://i.imgur.com/kX6ZQZ1.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/gW5YbmH.jpg

And I will close with some overall shots of the engine bay. I went ahead and installed the driver side fender and inner fender so I can start figuring out how to the plumb everything in this car. Pretty much everything is being done in AN hoses and AN Fittings and hardline so I expect this phase to take me quite a while to complete. Thanks for looking!

Wegner makes a nice looking front drive sistem. The car is looking great! Motor looks good in there.

lsuguy 10-17-2016 06:06 AM

Thanks guys! Hopefully I can keep things going and get this thing to paint...

Did I mention that I have a 55 2 door Bel Air up next when I finish this one lol...

waynieZ 10-17-2016 08:55 AM

Nice, something else to watch going together.. Post or hardtop?

lsuguy 10-17-2016 10:36 AM

I am 99% sure its a hardtop. My uncle bought it 20 years ago and stuck it in a field with the rest of his collection. He decided to give it to me a couple months back and I haven't made it up to his place to pick it up.

Its a single owner, all original car. They hooked a fuel can up to the carb and it cranked up lol. Depending on how much rust is there is going to determine if I go mild....or wild with the build.

extralight 10-17-2016 12:32 PM

Awesome build, can you post where you got the OEM Style switches from?

jeds 10-17-2016 03:36 PM

Awesome work. Things are looking super clean.

How difficult was it to remove the original radiator hose outlet on the water pump?

I have a Wegner kit arriving this week and plan to press in an A/N fitting as well.

Wasnt too bad. I had to put a small amount of heat on the water pump and then used a set of vise grips and a hammer to work it back and forth. I would just be careful with how much heat you put on it. I just used a propane bernzomatic.

For the heater core hoses when you pull the barbs the holes are already the correct size for 3/8" and 1/2" NPT taps.

You will be happy with the Wegner kit. It is very well put together. Just a heads up mine didn't come with the TTY crank bolt so you may want to pick up 1 or 2 of those. If you are replacing a current setup you can used the old bolt to seat the crank pulley, then use the new one to final torque. If its a long block and you are installing the first time you are going to want to pick up 2 of the crank bolts. One for the initial seat on the crank pulley (I think 240 Ft Lbs) and then one for final torque.

jeds 10-17-2016 09:37 PM

Thanks for the tip. I'll try the propane trick.

I have an ARP crank bolt that's suppose to be reusable, so hopefully it works out...

lsuguy 10-18-2016 05:23 AM

Yep. If you are using the ARP bolt you are good to go.

lsuguy 11-27-2016 05:20 PM

My conduit bending days paid off it seems...this is the rear line.

I will work on getting a full update going soon. I have been working on the wiring. The PSI harness is almost completely laid out. I basically stripped it down and started over to hide/tuck the wires. I will be finishing it up with techflex.

The main harness from AAW has also been almost completely laid out. I have it pulled back out to eliminate a lot of the things I don't need.

I have also been working with Orme Brothers. They are going to send me all of the AN fittings I need to do the car, let me mock up the hoses with cheap rubber hose and send back to them. They will then be doing all of them in Brown & Millers new crimped black hose and fittings. I have even worked with them on doing some custom colors on the crimp collar, so still working on that....

http://i.imgur.com/9Bpleio.jpg

Also ordered my headers and fuel system so all of those pieces are en route as well...hope to hear this thing run in the next couple of months.

Mikael A 11-27-2016 05:52 PM

That's a really nice build you are doing.....the details are just so awesome.

I have the same thoughts interested to so how and what you do here .. that plastic crap that comes on the PSI harness is pretty ugly

Is this a service they offer for everyone or do you have an inside "connection" for it?

I plan to run new PTFE lines in my car next year and I am not comfortable enough to do it myself. Don't feel like chancing a fire lol :shakehead:

Beautiful work man, I'm glad to see our shocks on there. Let me know if I can help out with anything!

They will offer it to anyone. Call and talk to Joel @ Orme Brothers and he will get you going.

lsuguy 02-05-2017 11:18 AM

Hey guys. Sorry I have been slow on the updates. I am making steady progress but its slow, tedious work like wiring, plumbing etc that I think we all know takes longer than we want. I do have a few pictures below so enjoy!

I landed and mounted the overflow tank and power steering reservoir so I can start working on getting these plumbed up.

http://i.imgur.com/x9ZZPoe.jpg

Its not visible in the pictures but I had to have some custom brackets machined to mount this like I wanted. Luckily I found a free lance guy that did it for next to nothing and they came out great. Its going to be a tight squeeze in this corner with the intake tubing but If I have everything measured correctly, it should fit

http://i.imgur.com/gSiiGIv.jpg

I also sent my EZ clip system fittings out to be polished since these are the two that you see coming off the compressor

http://i.imgur.com/JCgwyAe.jpg

Due to me being somewhat OCD on this car the wiring has been especially challenging. There are no butt splices or quick disconnects anywhere in the car. I have exclusively used Metri-Pack connectors throughout the car and each connection is labeled under clear heat shrink. I also did away with the factory routing. The main AAW fuse panel will be located in the same location but the engine side will be welded smooth. Everything is routed through the kick panel and hidden in the fenders.

http://i.imgur.com/Usm6lkf.jpg

Speaking of kickpanels I modified the speaker enclosure to house a small distribution panel for power into the car. I wanted to eliminate the fuisble links that would end up being on the on cabin side.

http://i.imgur.com/fNq9Vmp.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/RguNWcI.jpg

I did complete the hard lined section of fuel line which you will see in the pictures below. I also measured up and got the mocked up hoses for the remaining AN hoses needed to complete the fuel system sent out to Orme Brothers. They are making crimped hose assemblies for me using Brown Miller fittings/hose.

http://i.imgur.com/MgZhqGD.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/RbjuoHc.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/SK7PfNg.jpg

And last but not least my Headers did finally show up but we are having some issues getting them to fit. They look great but I am looking forward to getting the final form installed so I can move ahead.

http://i.imgur.com/R93zNxk.jpg

Thats it for now! I am working through more and more of the small details and will try to post pictures as I go.

waynieZ 02-05-2017 12:26 PM

Nice work, it looks great! Where are you running the fuel line up to the fuel rails? The car is looking nice.

Thanks Wayne. I ran the hard line up to the firewall and will be using AN hose from there to the passenger side fuel rail.

AMAZING build. Amazing. I see alot of these :trophy-1302: in your future. LOL

lsuguy 02-13-2017 07:58 AM

Another quick update.

I got the fuel tank bolted up. Now I can measure the AN lines from the previous shots of the hard lines. Once that is done the fuel circuit is ready to go.

http://i.imgur.com/Won9R3t.jpg

Finished up the 3/16 tubing for the brake lines to the rear. I have a tee fitting that I will be welding to the rear axle. Once I have that bolted up I will be able to measure the flex line from the tubing to the axle housing.

http://i.imgur.com/YVyPF9i.jpg

I had a couple of pinch points on the 3/16 that I didn't like around the front trailing arm brackets. I found some 3/16 ID Neoprene hose with an OD of 3/8 and slid that around the problem areas. I then finished it off with Techflex's fabric heat shrink. Overall this should eliminate the metal to metal contact.

http://i.imgur.com/zUw7590.jpg

I know you guys have heard me mention that I am hiding all of the wires. This is the distribution point on the firewall. I have tested it and I can reach the circuit breakers with the Hood and fender on. These shouldn't trip unless there are major issues anyway. It's hard to tell but MP circuit breakers have an option to add a clear acrylic backer with a red LED lamp. If one of the circuit breaker's trips I will visibly be able to see the LED without standing on my head.

The 80 Amp circuit breaker will feed a Bussman RTMR for my fan/head light relay center. The 100 amp feeds the kickpanel fuse box you have seen in previous photos.

http://i.imgur.com/5UCHsSs.jpg

I also got around to tacking in the weld nuts on the cabin side of the firewall. This will allow me to weld the area and bolt holes smooth where the factory fuse panel used to reside.

http://i.imgur.com/PgHfjHq.jpg

Thats it. Hoping for some time off soon where I can make more headway...
