Big milestone for the Ramblur project this weekend; the car left UTP Racecars to head to the final wiring and assembly location.
Started on the engine harness this weekend as well. Here are some pics of the Ramblur in its glory sitting on the ground: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7182/...fae79030_h.jpg20160521145459_IMG_3743 by kcoxphoto, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7781/...a95c8b27_h.jpg20160521145522_IMG_3744 by kcoxphoto, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7310/...6869ef7a_h.jpg20160521145548_IMG_3747 by kcoxphoto, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7003/...0de95807_h.jpg20160521145608_IMG_3750 by kcoxphoto, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7348/...0e4177dc_h.jpg20160521145637_IMG_3754 by kcoxphoto, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7169/...3172e448_b.jpg20160521145755_IMG_3762 by kcoxphoto, on Flickr |
weight
Here is the current weight.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7310/2...f6d780c2_b.jpgWeight without driveshaft, interior, fluids, and fuel tank installed. by kcoxphoto, on Flickr Keep in mind the car does not have a fuel tank installed, battery, fuel lines, brake lines, carpet/dynamat, nor fluids. Should be close to 3000 when all is said and done with a 54/46 weight distribution. |
Matt, Looks great sitting there! Do you mind me asking what color you went with? Metallic /or base clear? From what I can tell there is a bit of a blue hue to it? I love the color. Thanks for posting!:trophy-1302:

I wish I knew. The car was refinished (albeit, poorly) before we purchased it. It's silverish. Nothing too special about it.
Thanks pal. Nothing special is aka subdued and subtle! Car looks fantastic over all. Enjoy the next phase…
Looking great!

Updates |
The Ramblur will be at Goodguys Columbus, albeit transported by trailer because it is not running yet. Stop by and say hello if you see it.
Amazing car! Do you remember what your backpacking was on the rear 18x10 wheel? That looks like the perfect amount of lip. Also, what are the details on the finish of the wheels.
You are going surprise a lot of people with your "Rambling Rambler" in more way than one. Some won`t even know what its is. Good Luck!
Any new updates?
That wheel design and paint color look so good together! We could definitely use more Rambler in our life.
Sorry about the lapse in updates! There was a big lull in the project, and it has been sitting dormant for over three months. A big commitment was broken by the current shop and that is the reason why I am transferring shops currently. The Ramblur is going to get finished by a shop in Alma, Michigan called Republic Metal Works. Look for updates coming soon as they will be working on the car immediately when it is dropped off the first week in January!
@jmking: i'm not positive on the backspacing of the wheels since it's been over a year since I ordered them. They are Boze Forged Clutch Concave wheels with a gunmetal center and polished lip. |
This is so killer!
looking forward to the updates sorry to hear about the shop issue glad to hear it is getting resolved the 63 model year was great for american motors

Thanks Zak!
Loving the work that Republic Metal Works is doing on the car. They have already done more in the last two weeks than the previous place in 5 months. A small rust hole in the firewall has been repaired (looks factory). The cowl trough has been replaced. The Vintage Air Unit is mounted in place and several custom-fabbed mounts were made. The customer wiper motor setup is mocked up and ready to be powered up. Wiring is in process. Excited to see this thing on the road in the spring! https://www.instagram.com/p/BPtcB5jA...blicmetalworks https://www.instagram.com/p/BPyiUSVg...blicmetalworks https://www.instagram.com/p/BP84mq0g...blicmetalworks |
Nice to see this back on track.
looking at them pictures man tell them to be careful around the grille they dent way to easy that would be the last thing on the car if it was me and its even the Ambassador one where did ya find that LOL the car is looking great by the way David
You are not kidding. Grilles are impossible to find for these things. That grille is an NOS grille that I snagged on ebay. Someone had it up for an astronomical amount of money, and I offered them less than half of what they were asking and they agreed.
I still have the original grille, although it has a crease. |
great score for sure have them machine a plate that says Ramblur to cover the holes where the ambassador plate would go
You read my mind. That's exactly what we are having them do.
Update time. We went out to visit Republic Metal Works last weekend to see what they got done the past few weeks. They completed rust repairs including a replacement of the cowl tray. They also mocked-up and installed the vintage air unit under the dash. Wiring is deep in progress right now, PCM is installed in the glovebox along with fuse block. This will be nice and easy to access if necessary. A nice looking split intake is being custom made to utilize both open running lamp holes. Also considering doing a partial cage while the interior is apart to utilize for belts. Detroit Speed is now a sponsor of the Ramblur project, we will be utilizing their battery relocation kit. Looks beautiful and should distribute the weight a bit better.

I have to give it up to you for taking the Rambler on. It's crazy unique and so good looking I'm not sure why there isn't a lot more of them. Love it.
looking good one of the tuff things about doing an amc product is first finding a relatively a rust free one and if ya can't then the rust repair will kill ya new sheet metal is hard to come by you are doing this rambler to the next level thats for sure Im a amc nut to the core put not a purist by no means so the chevy engine is ok by me I would love to see this gem in person some day
Love the mods, thanks for the updates
SHE LIVES! First fire-up last weekend.
What a great feeling, that little rambler is looking tough! And good job on the video as well.
sounds great thats funny what you said about it starting Kwizz thats on the forum here build a 37 Ford that had an LS2 from a GTO and I was wiring the car for him and we are getting close to firing it up and this car had the GTO cluster also wired up and then it happened hit the key fuel pump ran like it should twisted the key a little more and boom that thing fired right up and idle perfect we were both were amazed ...I really love your car run the crap out of it and enjoy that cool little Rambler
